No tech advance pop-ups!

Hey everyone I'm new here but I've been reading the forums since Civ III. I've got a problem on my Civ IV now though.

My game now plays with no wonder movies, no tech breakthrough popups but the config is set to

; Set to 1 for no in-game movies
NoMovies = 0

I've already tried reinstalling but there's no change

So what can I do to reset the thing to play with the movies?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

With patch 1.61, no movies is now an in-game option (somewhere under graphics settings I think).

New tech popups is an ini file option:
; Set to 1 for no tech splash screens
NoTechSplash = 1

I have already tried it but the only difference is that there is the statement
" You have discovered XXX" and the corresponding voiceover but still no pop ups

You're not playing multiplayer are you? The popups aren't supposed to appear there, but that's the only case I can think of where the voiceover actually says "You have discovered X".

Nope, I'm not playing multiplayer at all. So anyone know whats the reason?

If this means a lot for you: uninstall civ, manually erase all civ folders, reinstall, repatch. If this won't help, it's not civ's fault but your computer's fault.
