I was thinking of mainly immature cities. Is it worthwhile pursuing (through trade) the commodoties they crave to cause We Love the King".

If they grow an extra 25% for 20 turns it seems potent. Also is this calculated per turn or at the end of 20 turns?

I thought it was 15%? And it's per turn. I'm not sure if it's excess food or base food, but either way it's very good. I always get it if I can.

Ah, even better then :p. If you can get the resource without sacrificing anything(like a resource-resource trade), then there's no reason not to get the WLtKD.

I try to get Fertility Rites when I can and I often pursue WLTKD resources around the mid-game so I can work some more specialists and/or mines. In the early game you might get more use from just selling your extra resources, but the growth bonuses do seem like the best bonuses in the game.

I'm pretty sure that it multiplies excess food, not base food. Very few of the +food bonuses multiply the base food.

When I trigger a We Love the King Day I often drop everything & focus on food for the next 20 turns so I get more excess food.

Good idea Plum Fairy.

I was also thinking if you have a resource- say cotton- and happiness is not an issue, whether you could pillage your own cotton and then when a city asks for it repair the plantation.

Impossible. Maybie if that cotton's near the your border, leave it there unprotected for some barbarians to get it.
