SGOTM 15 - Xteam

"Seems to be all mountains up there, no?" That was my thinking too; hence, culture, but I don't see how.

I though there was another city up north. Is there any way for him to get a GA by now? I doubt he went after Music. I wonder if he know CoL and running Artists in the city?

BTW the reason we want Kaga is to close the coastal route easily at that city and to take it while it is weakly defended. Other than .....:dunno:

On the otherhand, I disagree with the notion of not building a lib and runing 2 scientists or 1 for that matter in the capital.
Yeah, I'm kind of with you here. If our research is to depend upon Great People (mostly Scientists), we have to be able to run some. Code of Laws is a ways away for us as I see it?

Recognize the need to run science specialists, but everything depends on our taking cities, and the faster we can march through Toku, the easier it will be and the better off we will be long term. So, still argue against building a library until we have more cats and find out if Babs will join Toku against us.

Killed 10 Japanese units and took Osaka.

Loss:

Spoiler :
2 cats :p

Will upload the save and post report shortly. :)

Notes:

T108 Change build to cat in Vij and take the library off the build queue.

IBT We meet Shakagawa. Scout coming from the NW.

T109 Toku is down to 12 votes, is he whipping?
Will delay DOW for one more turn because of Toku cat probably hiding in the forest.

IBT Notre Dame was built in England

T110 DOW on Toku, we get the -1 with all from: “You declared on our friend”

IBT Toku suicides 4 axes and 1 sword on our axes in the forest, leaving him 1 sword, 1 spear and 3 archers, cat reappears 1E of Osaka.
Colossus was built in Zululand.

T111 Move all but a few units onto the forest. Bombard defenses to 0% with 5 cats.

IBT Taoism was founded, Chichen Itza built in England

T112 Take Osaka loosing 2 cats. Upgraded a wounded XP4 axe to combat 1 and killed the last unit in Osaka gaining the XP5, he should be promoted to Medic

We have an impressive army: 17 axes and 11 cats and more coming. :)

Maybe we can afford a library in Delhi and maybe in Bombay too, Bombay needs something to whip into. ;)

Found this from the log:
Hinduism has spread: Pi-Ramesses (Egyptian Empire)

Looks like we have an interesting problem on our hands, where to next? Taking the capital makes AP victory available, yet we need to take the capital? Catch-22.

Nicely done, Z.

Question: Why can't Toku trade Currency? I thought, when at war, the AI will theoretically trade any tech we could research.

Suggest we press the attack with all deliberate speed. Consider moving healthy units on forest onto the forest 2S of Osaka and perhaps moving warrior1 (on mined hill) onto the grass 1S of Osaka, so as to encourage the cat to attack and put itself in a vulnerable position. If cat does attack and win, then we eliminate it and move some of the units on the forest 2S onto the roaded forest where the cat is now.

Workers 5&6 NE of Delhi can be moved to road grass NW of Delhi, allowing cat in city to attack Japanese scout, gaining experience and freeing marble for use by a citizen.

What about a forge in Osaka? Without the added happiness, it will not be able to grow much, given its attachment to the motherland.

Back from my vacation and business trip. Looks like outstanding progress. I'll try to catch up this weekend.

Seems a bit odd. Maybe he just acquired it this turn and can not trade until next turn.

I am about to start in a new position in my company and will be traveling almost every week for a while. I think I will need to be bumped to the bullpen until further notice :(. I'll keep up with the conversation, but will need to hold off on playing. If I happen to hit a week where I am home, I might ask for a last minute insertion at the top of the lineup.

Catching up on my reading:

IBT: AP was built in England.

Crap!

So I guess our best hope at this point is either:

- Keep Togu alive, leaving him stranded in one non-Buddhist city (Kagoshima looks perfect), take all his other cities.
- Overrun all of the AI's on our continent with the hope of gaining 40% of the Buddhist population. Once we capture our first Buddhist city, we need to spread it to all of our other cities to increase the votes required for Liz to win.

Or both?

Workers 5&6 NE of Delhi can be moved to road grass NW of Delhi, allowing cat in city to attack Japanese scout, gaining experience and freeing marble for use by a citizen.
I don't think the scout is parked on the marble, it was trapped outside our borders in the west and I think it's on the move now.
I think the workers should build a cottage near Bombay and then proceed to chop for Osaka.

Why the cottage?

At what point do we revolt to OR in order to build missionaries?

Been looking at the situation and finding it difficult to plan very far ahead with so many unknowns.

Thinking we should do most of this. Would really like to get a look at the capital before committing to a course.

As this is :bts:, the Cat cannot defeat the Warrior if we move it south of Osaka, it can lose health if it attacks and we could then counter with an Axe, if that is what you are saying?

The next problem is where we are in voting? Don't remember how many cities Toku had, was it 5 or 6, we will be vulnerable to the AP vote once we take his capital as some of his other cities must be Buddhist? Not sure how the timing works for this?

Workers 5&6 NE of Delhi can be moved to road grass NW of Delhi, allowing cat in city to attack Japanese scout, gaining experience and freeing marble for use by a citizen.
Can't remember, can a Scout pillage? If he cannot pillage, all he can do is deny us use of the tile. Has he been sitting there or is he moving back to Tokuland?

What about a forge in Osaka? Without the added happiness, it will not be able to grow much, given its attachment to the motherland.
Running OR is 4 gpt. Before building a missionary becomes effective, don't we need to have all of Toku's Buddhist cities? Although it would be noce to convert Osaka to Hinduism for the border pop, worth 4 gpt plus hammer to build? Need some more thought on this.

We can complete research on Machinery if we set the slider to 50% and consume 33 gold. Thinking the increase in power might help our overall situation?

As Varansi has poor production, think we can start using the whip there.

Thinking Kago can wait until we have the capital, depending upon what we see. Hte to allow him more time to build units and reinforce capital while we are taking Kago?

Edit - our cities are mostly working improved tiles at this point. As we take Toku's area, we'll need some workers there. For the rest, the question seems to be farms versus cottages? recommendations?

When in doubt.....

I believe you are correct. Not sure how to avoid this. The sooner we capture all of Togu's Buddhist cities, the sooner we eliminate the risk of AP vote.

Correct, no pillaging, just denies tiles.

Good point on OR cost. I would wait. No strong reason to pop Osaka, at least until we've captured the capital and relieved the culture pressure. Once we've captured our first Buddhist city, then I think we need to spam Buddhist missionaries.

See my comment on Liz below. Might be nice to get some maces. However, I would still binary research.

Edit: I would vote for beelining Maces and Trebs. Hopefully we can get Iron from Togu when we've reduced him to one city. So, Machinery next for me.

The problem is Vara does not have good food and will recover slowly. I would steal a couple of mined hills from Vija instead. Vija cap whip more effectively and eventually run two scientists instead of prod.

Agreed. We need to get at his core cities. Kago is a crap city and will not hurt us. Also, as I said before, might be a good candidate to exile Togu. Since it will not have OB with Liz (blocked by our other cities) maybe Buddhism will not spread as easily.

leif said:

Tough call, we seem to be a little commerce poor. However, my gut tells me it is too late to start building cottages... with any luck, we will be bulbing to the techs to win the game. Maybe we will find the AI's built some cottages for us, but otherwise, I'm thinking farms.

Other random thoughts:

  • Bombay is about to go unhappy, no reason to grow pop (unless we want to whip).
  • Liz is becoming a beast. She already has CoL, Engineering, and Machinery. Highly likely we will face maces and trebs with her. I would think we will need the same, and lots of them. To make it worse, she has Chicken Itza. Would be nice if we could attack London and York directly, but something tells me the mountains will prevent access.
  • Liz can't trade CoL, none of the others we've met have it. This infers she traded for it which means she has met at least one of the missing AI.
  • Nice to see Hammy built GLH. Will be a nice acquisition. However, I am still thinking we need to get after Liz next before she runs away.
