Test of Time - or is it?

So Civilization 2 is getting near to the top of my list of games to (re)play.
I only played it a bit back in '96 or '97, using a friend's copy of the game. After that, I at one point bought the Test of Time remake from 1999. Or at least I thought I did...
I never installed the game until now, and I had to use Virtual Box to install it. I got it running and checked the version number - 1.02 March 4, 1996. "Hmm...1996? Can that be right for a 1999 remake?". Then I checked the CD - all the files are dated 1996. I also downloaded the 1.1 patch, but when I ran in (from Virtual Box) it said that Test of Time is not installed.

So it seems what is on my Test of Time CD is just the original Civ 2, version 1.02.
And it took me 14 years to notice this blatant rif-off!!! :crazyeye:

The version in question is the Scandinavian one - - distributed by the Danish company KE Media.

I've done a Google search, but I can't find any other mention of this.

Anyway, Test of Time (the real one) is the ultimate version of Civ 2, right?
I guess I could upgrade my version to the Gold Edition of Civ 2, but I don't like what I've read about the overly aggressive AI.
