which unashamedly aims for maximum diversity of unit line-ups within game limits . ı love this game . Even when it took me 2 or 3 years to figure out how to add units ; after that ı had a number of abortive attempts to try to find stuff ı like to make a few personal scenarios . Looking up , testing in game , changing biq and pediaicon.txt makes it a hassle , takes up time ı could rather play . And that for a mere couple of units .

so my intention this time is to start kind of big and make a template of sorts . With biq and the rest in place so that ı would merely copy the new stuff into its relevant folder and get going . Just as an example ı am thinking of having 160 empty folders in Art\Units with .INI files appropriately named so that ı would have 160 slots for fighter planes alone ; for me it's easier to delete unnecessary options than adding them . So that if ı want Jetfighter41 to be a MiG-15 or F-15 ı find a suitable unit , copy past into Jetfighter41 folder and replace the placeholder INI with the new one . Making it kinda open source through this thread -or maybe a second one if ı manage to get something going- would be beneficial in the sense people could make suggestions about units or feel about making new ones . It's one thing to peruse all those pages in the download section ; quite another when somebody tells he/she knows the thing for that Civ .

besides ı have never been omnipotent and have never heard the phrase game balance ; in addition to being hardly familiar with the game mechanics . ı think the final result will be much improved if people take a look . And of course the moment ı post the .biq here it becomes a property of CFC . In the unlikely case that it becomes a basis of sorts for other scenarios to be posted here subsequently , the only thing ı could ever ask for would be a link to a single post of mine where ı will be thanking any single person who might have assisted in any way .

it will be a single map , intended for an epic game but to include "credible" space action . Diversity in unit line-ups is the aim , if people downloading don't like the weirdness some of the civs will be "all human" . Unit-makers , if you have created a pistol packing mermaid at a time when you were confused for some reason (say when drunk or something) , this is the scenario . We will have a place for it ...

the map is ready in basic layout , starting positions for a one third of the civs is in place but a good introduction is always good way to start . ı need it look good to entice people hence opinions . As such ı would be rather grateful if somebody posts :

files , ways , stuff and whatever that ı can put into Art\Terrain so that Oceans , Volcanoes and Mountains (but not Snow Mountains)will look like space . PediaIcons.txt with "corrections" will also do nicely , so that ı could use Ocean as Space and Space Terrain at the same time . If anybody knows how to get rid of that diamond of Landmark terrains , ı could have more space , too ...

all aiming to have a canvas that looks good so that people can come in , because the "beta" ı would post here would be somewhat idiotic with "spaceships" going to stars but looking and sounding like galleys ... ı shouldn't be laughed off entirely , right ?

and ı am yet to study resource adding , ı would so much love a ready made 32 resource biq posted with anything required so that ı could use or copy it somewhat . Need lots of resources with so many units to be . Speaking of which what's the highest number of unit types a scenario can have ? ı could trim before wasting effort . ı think ı can handle writing up 250 buildings and improvements .

otherwise ı am testing some aspects of game play ; have discovered Barbarians can't enslave and it seems impossible to limit their huts to certain types of terrain . As such there will be no sea unit for Barbarians , but lots of privateers . Using standart Firaxis editor , obviously any improvements through other editors would be wellcome after ı finish a certain level of work so that ı would have a right to ask people "Come and See."

thanks . Am indeed interested in providing a basis that people might feel to offer options and stuff ; CivIII being a quite an impossible thing for one dude to check in its entirety . But as you will see from the pics below , ı could really use a new thing in city views .

"to a general audience" :

now you probably don't know the Romans actually went to stars .

the .biq needs some space area that can be colonized without "penalizing" the rest of the map . And ı was lucky enough to find the "solutions" in LotM , which on my personal experience is probably the best scenario ever . 'Canvas' will be ready for the duration if ı manage to put a "space" in the place of "ocean" .

the scenario is also "expected" to have any functions of the editor ı can manage to decipher them . So , ı had locked alliances in place for select civs and this is a tiny map where my Ally managed to get into war right of the bat and we all know how "fair" the AI is , right ? How come an interstellar tank gets all crispy by Magma ?

ı think ı can manage this view for "space colonies" , Coruscant as a single city planet being much overrated . Was thinking to use the Victory Location column as a place holder with anything in the future being a possibility ; say a lamp post or stuff to be placed instead of the triangle that remains of Rome .

Please tell more about the "solutions."

the LotM has a different terrain pack , meaning it has a seperate image for mountains . ı took that , painted it Black and put into Art/Terrain of my trial scenario . All the mountains on Earth or something have snow on them and all the mountains in space are Black with white dots on them . Tried a few ways to cover the coasts with stars , buildings.pcx works admirably even if ı had to sacrifice the Fortress idea . Just paint the edges around the diamond form that contains the Fortress image to cover it all Black and it will pass -as the images above hopefully prove . Would post the .pcx files here but "not surprisingly" my laptop has a worm or something ; would hate if it became an infection elsewhere . ı have a lot of baggage and this is not the thread to rant about it but will keep doing this scenario . Meanwhile it would really be helpful if a terrain maker took the idea to merge space with Firaxis coasts , the straight lines still make it look odd .

has anybody ever added extra land mark terrain , specifically landmark coasts , so that it can have its graphics ?

well , ı understand the armies composed of knights are not attacked by the AI . Is it related to the "PRTO_Knight" thing or Knight's place in the unit line ? ı have been passing time by making a 2000 unit scenario where ı have the basics . Adding units by merely changing name from unit 1234 to whatever the scenario needs but ı would like to keep the option of hiding whole stacks under knightly conducting armies ...
