Hi

I installed BTS, I also patched it but still I get the same problem : CIV4 BTS starts the loading process but then it stops and crashes back to desktop. I'm using Win XP SP2 and I also updated all the drivers to see if it could fix the problem. Windows gave an error message...this is the info contained in the error report:

AppName: civ4beyondsword.exe AppVer: 3.0.0.1
ModName: binkw32.dll ModVer: 1.8.6.0 Offset: 0002235e

I tried replacing the BTS dll with the CIV4 original, since I never had any problem running CIV4. Unfortunately, that did not solve anything.

Please, can anyone offer any insight to help me fix the problem and be able to enjoy this expansion pack ?

Thank you in advance for any help !!

if you have a copy of it switch those dll files back.
open my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini
set the line that says
nointromovie = 0
to
nointromovie = 1
save, start a game that should do. Unfortunately some machines have problems with the intro movie :sad:

I have a similar problem.

AppName: civ4beyondsword.exe
AppVer: 3.1.3.1
ModName: binkw32.dll
ModVer: 1.8.6.0
Offset: 0002235e

But i cant find what ori has suggested:

" open my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini "

I cant find the civilizationIV.ini

pls help me. Thank you!

welcome to CFC :band:

this is a file located within your my documents folder - the complete path is:

c:\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword
within in this directory you should have the civilizationIV.ini ...

Thanks Ori, I managed to find the file :)

but now I've got a new problem. upon opening the file it says:

"The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is in correct."

when I click ok, the notepad is blank. there is nothing there that I can edit.

what should I do next?

delete it - try to start the game again - it should create a new one during startup even before it crashes.
If that does not work create a new text file (with notepad) and include only this:

NoIntroMovie = 1

and name it

civilizationIV.ini

(make sure windows does not put a .txt after it) and put it into the path as above.

Hey Ori,

thank you for being so patient with me and helping me to solve this problem.

I have tried the above method but at the moment my game is still unable to load. It tries to load, then I see a black screen, hear 3 crash sounds and the then the Windows error message appears.

Any more suggestions? Thank you.

:hmm:
is this a new install? at this point I would likely recommend a complete uninstall and reinstall (but that is laborious and please don't do it before I post a howto)

does civ4 or warlords work? if so you could copy that .ini and do the change in there...
