Sid the Science Kid

OK ... I'm struggling to disagree with too much that vran' or lymond have proposed.

War

I liked the Cease Fire idea, but Zara's got a stack a few turns from Avignon, and I think we could steal it if Zara throws his units it it first and softens the defenses for us. It'll give us a window to heal and consolidate before taking out that city. If Napoleon's prepared to capitulate sooner as Sengir's forecasting, then I'd grab the capitulation.

National Wonders

I'm not sure I follow the point on capturing Orleans ... if we take a city that formerly had a Forbidden Palace, then the former occupier (i.e. France) is more willing to surrender?

German Iron

Nice catch. Now he has a Pikeman Ho-Ho-Ho!

Great General

If he can make it there, he'll make it ... 'boom boom' ... anywhere.

Cherokee

I hate to stop the specialists with 163:gp: points invested, but we've got a few other cities lined up beforehand ready to pop some Great People. As such, I'm fine with working the commerce tiles as proposed under Bureaucracy, and a Grocer looks like a fine build.

Technology

Amazingly we've still got some sort of shot at Liberalism. Zara's soon to get Education (but will probably want both Gunpowder and Printing Press for it), and Philosophy's tradeable. Being a vassal, we can at least stop Ethiopia from self-researching Philosophy, and if he trades it, then stop him from self-researching Liberalism. I'm inclined to see Printing Press through and start ploughing some points into Education ... possibly even burn a Great Scientist on it ... to get the 'price' down from Zara. We can then slingshot Replaceable Parts if not Rifling itself. Thoughts?

National Wonders

Slight 'buildaholic' move here: Heroic Epic and Forge for New York, National Epic for Boston (even though Washington's also presenting as a juicy Great Person Farm) - debatable value, but it's cheap. I'm inclined to support Killroyan's suggestion of the Forbidden Palace in Istanbul. Thoughts?

Other comments

Re. lymond's post #216:

'Yep' - OK to send Worker love to Philly. Happy to keep churning out units incl. Muskets.

Other:

I'd like to squeeze out some Buddhist Missionaries along the way as well. Only nine of our twenty cities are Buddhist, and I'm assuming we're sticking with that faith despite the Shrine :gold: being collected by Victoria.

A couple of easy resource trades: Sugar from Ethiopia, and Deer from the Ottomans. Can also take a shot at reworking the Rice deal with Germany.

I remember reading discussion about capturing national wonders if you don't own them but can build them.

Not sure if Forbidden palace is in the category, but worth the shot imo.

vranasm,

I'm not aware of the discussion that you refer to, but I can't ever remember such a circumstance occurring in my own games. I'd actually have thought it could potentially be as much of a disadvantage as an advantage given some of the 'curious' decisions of what building goes where of the AI, in that for example the player might capture a city with 'say' only five ocean tiles with the Maoi Statues pre-built by the enemy, thereby preventing the player from building the Maoi Statues in a far more appropriate city or otherwise having to raze the city after an initial examination. I must say that I'm a bit dubious about this one, but if you can point me in the right direction, it'd be handy. I might create a test map later on if we can't pinpoint an answer in the forums. I'm not even that sure if we're capable of taking Orleans too soon anyway, so this exercise might be more academic than anything.

Happy to hear views from the roster on:

(a.) if we're going for Liberalism at all, bulbing or not-bulbing the upcoming Great Scientist, or whether coughing up both Printing Press and Gunpowder to Zara Yaqob to get Education is acceptable, or whether a few turns of part-research + Gunpowder or Printing Press would be OK as trade bait for Education, etc.

(b.) proposed National Wonder placement,

(c.) if it's OK for me to fight on with the hope of getting Avignon with Zara's assistance provided Napoleon isn't prepared to capitulate beforehand?, and

(d.) anything else that's relevant that springs to mind.

Thinking of playing Friday, being Thursday evening for most of you.

^^ initially thought we will finish the game in yours turnset, latest maybe L's

so to me it's more about "get out the units asap - whip whip" and "kill kill kill" in that sense I feel having trebs and muskets should suffice and no more complications needed.

I guess the current situation makes this a bit more complicated, but I guess we don't need to search for plan "B".

I haven't seen the save, but I agree with V's sentiment that the ONLY thing we need is units, units, units. Not sure we need cease fire, but the aim should be to cap Nap asap and meanwhile kill or cap England and win by domination.

That's all good - just looking for cues and confirmation from the roster.

Well, I'll forget the National Epic for starters.

I'm fine to continue with the war effort because I think we can get Avignon anyway if Napoleon doesn't capitulate to us beforehand.

We do have a few Great Scientists pops lined up - if we're not especially concerned with tech'ing further, then I'll merge the first into Cherokee.

I'm fine with "kill kill". Do we have enough firepower at present? We seemed pretty decimated but I may have missed some units. Still seems we need a short ceasefire, but if you feel we can take it then do it.

I've played a short turnset, but happy to hand it over here.

Aside from losing a Trebuchet at 96.1% chance of victory ... :badcomp: ... I think that things have gone OK.

We did take Avignon in the end with significant help from Zara Yaqob's stack, and have dragged out the war with Napoleon. The troops are surrounding Rheims, and for the first time; Napoleon's prepared to capitulate.

I'd personally take the capitulation and have our troops in good health to take on our next opponent, but Rheims isn't a bad spot and it's still quite gettable. Roster's call as to whether we should attack Rheims or leave it.

We lost a vote for Religious Diplomatic victory to Frederick, who also fell short of the number by a long stretch.

I did whip our cities pretty hard as discussed. Heroic Epic's up in New York. We self-researched Printing Press. Liberalism's still up for grabs, but Zara (controllable) and Victoria are both capable of getting it. I traded Philosophy with Suleiman and got a map and some cash for Guilds and Paper. Spread Buddhism around a little. Arranged the trade deals as per PPP.

Screen shots:
Spoiler :
We take Avignon ... got Zara to attack it, he did practically all of the damage, and then we sent him off to Rheims while we took the city. :D

End of turnset screen shots from here ...

Troops around Rheims: We've got eight Trebuchets (more on the way), six Longbows, and three Archers, while Zara's got five Longbows, two very damaged Cat's, and an Archer. Rheims' defense has been taken down to 58%, it's on a Hill, and has four Longbows and a Cat' inside. It's a nice city, but is it worth the potential losses given Napoleon is already willing to capitulate?

Our score 'wobbled' during this turnset ...

... but our Power rating improved ...

Good job! I'd take the capitulation and move on to the next target. Domination can't be too far away anymore.

cap him

and proceed with wars... crossing fingers L finishes...

oh and why only 6 turns cam :nono:

+19 diplo with Zara? loving these religious freaks...

What a pushovers :) Take us home Lymond.

You might as well have finished it, Cam! :p

Anyway, good job. Early congratulations to all.

Ha...I went to look at the save to formulate a plan for the next TS and, after a glance, quickly decided to cap Fred, raise culture slider and hit end turn 3 times. Game over.

We were actually a little over 63% land after capping Fred. I check all the cities and built Culture in cities that could pop in a couple of turns.

Nice score. By the way, we would have won Lib. Vicky went for Economics.

Confused as to why we had EP focused on Zara. Maybe something left over from a long time ago before he peaced vassaled and we just never payed attention to EPs.

Good game fellas! Now for the next one!

Only 285,495?? :D

'Yeah' ... Zara was a hangover. We had so few :espionage: raw points anyway, I didn't see much point in us redirecting them. Technically 'sub-optimal' but I didn't think that we'd get much from espionage after a while.

I thought that you guys (Sengir excluded) were working on your tax? Do you have interest in another?

Good job!

As to another game, I'll try to resist the temptation, but will probably succumb anyway. ;)

good job guys.

almost 300k points on Immortal for Sid is nothing to sneeze at. i guess he will be pretty happy for us :).

as for another game... I am only in 1 SG right now so no problems with it.

Very nice show guys. My first immortal win yeahaaaa and with a great score. I have an idea for another crazy succession game, called way of the gun. It is a mix of a lot of crazy games that have already been played. At turn 0 we click on rifling and let the comp take over with the research path. That is right, we have no choice in that. If the comp decides to research BW in 1000 ad, then that is the way it is. And then some more twists. I will start up a game soon.

Nice :goodjob:
