Need some help from fellow buccaneers

I just got Pirates! on Xbox, and have a few probs. First, what's the best way to attack a town? How can I get that nation mad enough at me that I don't just sail in when I approach it? How can I get Pirates/Natives to fight for me?
Also, what's up with trading? Do the prices in a given town stay the same as long as the nationality doesn't change? Thanks in advance guys.

1. attack shipping, bombard the town, walk in by land. If the town has a mayor, you can never attack it.
