Can't Figure out online multiplayer

So I bought Civ V a year or so ago with a humble bundle. I love the game so I wanted to buy Gods and Kings. I have a mac and I realized that I could by the complete campaign edition through the app store for the same price as one DLC so went ahead instead of using steam. However, when I try to play online like I can with my steam edition, I have found that I cannot. There is not even an internet option under multiplayer. Can someone please help me figure this out? Thank you!

Pretty sure the App Store version of the game cannot play multiplayer over the internet -- just LAN games. You might check in the Civ5 - Macintosh forum for details/more accurate replies.
