England's beats out every one else's by a mile. Epic beyond words.

Second place goes to the Ottomans, followed by Russia and France.

Sorry, I'm relatively new to Civ V, and apparently I'm not very observant. Is there a specific song that plays when you first declare war or are declared on?

If so, are there certain songs that play at other specific times of the game, e.g. entering a golden age?

The England theme would be better without the flute (or fife...more militaristically accurate) playing over the strings. But otherwise I agree, it is absolutely epic.

Mongolia and Arabia are pretty sweet, imho.

Persian one. This is the music theme of the Apocalypse for me. As the only one out there, it emphasises on the tragedy of war rather than the war itself. It's tragic and haunting but beautiful as well.

The other ones I love are Russian, Roman, Japanese, Arabian, Turkish/Ottoman, Spanish and English themes. They are all badass, evil and they really make you think that doom approaches.

I can't quite recall all of the themes, but the English one is certainly pretty fantastic, so it gets my vote.

Whatever the case, you can find them all in

This seems as good a place as any to post this.

I was just doing a little Sunday morning Civ music appreciation, and I felt like looking up info about Austria's theme, a mash up of Mozart's Requiem and a traditional Austrian lullaby, Still Still Still. "I'm not familiar with that one. I should learn more!"

The lyrics, from Wikipedia:

Still, still, still,
weil's Kindlein schlafen will!
Die Engel tun schön jubilieren,
Bei dem Kripplein musizieren.
Stille, stille, stille,
Weil's Kindlein schlafen will.

Schlaf, schlaf, schlaf,
Mein liebes Kindlein, schlaf!
Maria tut dich [es] niedersingen
Und ihr treues Herz darbringen.
Schlaf, schlaf, schlaf,
Mein liebes Kindlein, schlaf!

Groß, groß, groß,
Die Lieb' ist übergroß.
Gott hat den Himmelsthron verlassen
Und muß reisen auf der Straßen.
Groß, groß, groß,
Die Lieb' ist übergroß.

Auf, auf, auf,
Ihr Adamskinder auf!
Fallet Jesum all zu Füßen,

Ruh't, ruh't, ruh't,
Weil's Kindlein schlafen tut.
Sankt Josef löscht das Lichtlein aus,
Die Englein schützen's kleine Haus.
Ruh't, ruh't, ruh't,
Weil's Kindlein schlafen tut.

So, yeah, that's a 'lullaby' about a people rising up, dying for Jesus, confident in their place in the Kingdom of Heaven. Must say, I'm gonna take Maria Theresa a little more seriously next time.

Yes England is great, but I quite like some others especially Sweden and Russia.

My favorite has to be Russia. It sounds so dark and threatening...
