What's the largest city you grew?

Yet, it'd be quite hard to get both Temple of Artemis and Hanging Gardens on Emperor and beyond. On Emperor it is still doable, but on Immortal and Deity.... if you are Egypt with marble, got aristocracy and spawned in a grassland-stone-mines madness, maybe. But still, my best was 48, Teotihuacan, on a lakes map as the Aztecs. It was Vanilla and I didn't payed much attention to CSs by that time, but I liked it a lot :D

Not sure why the thread got revived but..

Today I ended up with a 44 capitol city I believe. Went with tradition for a tall cultural victory on prince difficulty. Didn't really put much effort into trying to grow, if I pushed it I could have hit 50 before I finished I guess.
Normally I end up between 20 and 30 for my capitol.

Size 35 on my Indian civ one city challenge, chieftan difficulty
Won with a cultural victory in the 1920s.
Pretty sure could have gone to 40-ish if I kept playing

Last night I actually dreamt that I was playing a game against a tall Nebuchadnezzar who beat me to a very early Science victory. I was surprised. It turned out the population of his Akkad had got to four digits.

(and yes, I know, CiV dreams... blame the funky cheese I ate last night!)

@blackcatatonic: I laughed a lot when I read your comment, seriously. I once had a similar dream, but I can't remember it very much... I just know it involved the intro video and Pacal, but really, you've got my lol :D

I'm sure mods don't count, but my record was a size 44 Uruk.

I hit 50 in my last game (prince, standard, India). It was the year 1991. One more turn, and it would have been 51 (diplo victory). Made me proud!

Nah you are not the only one, tis what happens to fanatics

I've hit 70 something. On king. Petra, desert, lots of wheat, hanging gardens, and maritime cs's. The freedom policy tree that makes speciallists consume half food also helps alot.

I fooled with Monty on lakes once, and I think I figured my city could have sustained itself to like 111. I got to 100 then stopped.

And I think that might have been before G&K. I will need to try again and get all the food beliefs.

On an archipelago with the Mayans (on King), I only had two cities the whole game. One was my capital and the other was a city state on my island that I conquered very early in the game. My capital grew to size 26 and my city state grew to 22. So, two very balanced super-cities. I ended up winning a cultural victory.

I don't remember the largest city I had, but I know I hit 40+ a few times. Also in my last game as the huns...was a very strange game, starting locations and behaviour of the AI lead to a very peaceful game (builder's paradise). Got to 43 citizens in Attila's Court due to CN tower finishing just before the end :)

haha, thanks :D

Good to know it's not just me (although it totally was the cheese; I had some the next day and that night dreamt that the selection process for an upcoming job interview I have involved a trampoline contest...)

Back on topic: I don't think I've ever got past the low 30s, except for an OCC where I made it to 41. I'm really crap at growing cities - which is why I don't like playing tall.

Yesterday I finished another Russian Scientific game on immortal, still with crappy turns, but anyway, Moscow grew to 39. I didn't ally with maritime city states and had a grassland start with some stone. I was kind of focused on production, so I don't really know what happened, this was without Fertility Rites/Temple of Artemis. I started on an isolated continent with Germany, Rome and Japan. Woo freaking hoo. Delayed third and fourth city, but got Berlin. At the end, my cities were at 39 (Moscow), 27 (St. Petersburg), 25 (Berlin), 22 (Novgorod, on the crabs sea. The place had 8 crabs and 2 fish, it only got to 22 because of huge periods of unhappiness caused by my adorable conquering spree and by the double dow Japan+Rome) and 9 (Rostov. founded it only to get aluminium).

Here's the latest one I did. It's on Emperor and I cooked the settings a bit (by going Sandstorm, I pretty much guarantee long stretches of Floodplains.) Got Fertility Rites and ToA. The city is popping new babies every 5 turns. 7 turns if they are Indifferent of The King.

Civ5Screen0025.jpg

I settled Teotihuacan just to get the Crabs for WLtK in Tenochtitlan. I'll probably get to 90 with this on turn 500.

EDIT:
Not really planning on winning the game though. Just wanted a crazy growth game with them crazy Aztecs.

Whoa, I'm impressed

Will you definitely get to 90, or does the rate of growth start to fall off at some point? Has anyone worked out what the theoretical largest possible city is in CiV?

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=471066

This is the closest we got.

EDIT:
It's probably gonna fall off some point. To get that, I made a point to start with Mining-Archery-Pottery. Rush bought a shrine to get Fertility Rites. Opening build was Scout -> Worker -> ToA -> GL (popped Philo) -> HG -> Petra -> NC. The turns are getting longer for me right there. I left that game going on Satellites, with Dynamite already researched. So maybe I can kill off Suleiman (put him out of his misery) and Selassie and his heathen religion. Max usable pop is 52 (all tiles worked with all Specialist slots filled, 53 if with Cathedral). At that point, we need a Citizen Migration feature.

If you want to find out the max theoretical, remember that max food per tile is 6 (grassland/floodplain farmed wheat with Granary and Civil Service). There are 36 workable tiles max per city. So that would be 196 food total. Then from there, get factor in the bonuses (Fertility Rites, ToA, WLtK, Aztec Floating garden, Half Food Specialists, Etc.). The game isn't really clear on how these bonuses are applied though (whether they are factored in from MAX food or the remainder to feed the city.)
