If I continue to do a few of those, I should put them in a single thread instead of making a new thread each time.

Theodora Culture DCL 6
This game is in the context of the Deity Challenge 6 available here:

All parts are now available in the following playlist:

Hope you enjoy ! I tried to speak more in front of my microphone too.

Right now only part1 is available as I must review/edit the next video due to some alt tabing showing email adress etc. If you see it in another video (or similar personal stuff) please MP me. Part 2 is now available.

I planned to marathon watch these tonight because clearly I hadn't fully read through the original post. Either way the mic volume is 100x better than the Inca game. Also that start was just unbelievable with the culture and and pop bonus from the ruins. It completely negated spending two turns moving the settler. Thanks again for doing these. I've been playing on deity for two years and I am learning a ton from you.

Nice I've been waiting for the others to upload. Through the first two. Do you always delay philosophy to the exact point where you can construct national college? Also was shocked you deleted caravan from Petra. Do you not send trade routes to other civilizations? Might find the answer in later videos.

If I have urging infrastructure and don't think I can get a pre-NC Oracle then yes I'll delay Philosophy until I have finished libraries (sometimes you can rush buy the slowest ones). Getting lighthouses ready for after libraries is important here.

Caravan gold is rather pathetic compared to cargo food so it's a no brainer to me. I in general prefer food to gold from caravans/cargos. Especially for the first half of the game there is no contest in my opinion. I'll sometimes preffer cargo gold to caravan food though.
The real benefit of early caravans is for the bonus science in case you need a fast classical era tech (other than philosophy). Currency, construction for example. If you're going for a fast NC, internal routes are just better.

Internal routes are also very easy to defend...

Currently at part 3, audio desync gets quite bad after a while. Still an interesting series all in all.

Something odd I noticed in the LP - When you get the GE from Pisa, you first start building the Sistine, then queued Globe, then use GE, then switch back to Sistine. I noticed that the turns on Sistine seemed be a bit lower than before. I am not sure if I saw that correctly or not.

Was that intentional? Is there some sort of hammer overflow when you use a GE? Or, is it so that if you have put some hammers into Sistine, then it convinces the AI to not start building it?

Thanks for posting the LP!

No this wasn't intentional, I could have used the GE right away I probably just had a moment of confusion playing as if this was a faith bought GE which you have to wait a turn to use.

When you rush a wonder, the next building still get the production of that turn so this is why the Sistine had less turns left.

Nice.

- You had too much tech at the end, and the game was set up perfectly for accidental rollover exploiting (scholars + decent AI progress + Internet without Chemisty) What this really shows is that you could have double-bulbed into Plastics and reached Internet earlier, I think.

- I was telling my screen to switch your late Hospitals to Beakers -- and you did :) No need for healthcare when the entire population of the world is living a bohemian lifestyle based on Byzantine cultural fads... (Obviously doesn't really matter either way).

- Nice job with all the artifacts. This was helped by having high productivity in the secondary cities.

- Edit: Also talk about a nice capital - moving was definitely worth it - free DF + successful Petra + 5 fish - at least a few of which must have been a post settling surprise + 3 desert iron tiles + desert Oil + double landmarks! Yeah, that will work :)

Yes, ideally I should have just sit back and calculate how much bulb value I need.

Hello,

This is my first post on the forums, I have been lurking around for some time. I'm pretty new on Deity, I have win with Poland, Babylon, Sweden SV, Venice Diplo and now with Theodora I made a SV at turn 241, my best so far. I guess the map helped a lot. Really enjoyed this map^^

Edit
lol I thought I was posting on the Deity Challenge post, anyway great LPs Acken learn a lot from your Inca LP and I'm watching this one now.

thanks for the lets play... I enjoyed watching it, learned a few things, like better worker stealing, and just how much easier the enhanced user interface makes the game.

I was amazed how you never built a military the whole game.

Using a scout to protect another civs trade route to you...

Waiting to bulb so long has always been hard for me.

How to time some of the social policies.

Now it seems more like an exploit to sell the AI a city to shave 6 turns off of a win, than the overflow science, in my humble opinion.

That is one powerful map.

Thanks again for all the tips.

I guess its a matter of perspective. I really dub as exploits things that abuses of a clear bug in the code. What you point out is more in the "abuse" category since I only use clear game mechanics.

On a side note I've had the intention for a while to make a game with 0 abuses, no DoW after WLTKD deal, no worker steal, no selling ressources 1 by 1 etc. While it will obviously not have a very good finish time, I just want to do it to prove Deity isn't about the abuses if someone dislike them.

I don't recommend not building units every game of course, it will just come with experience to have a feeling of who you should be afraid of, as well as recognizing the signs when an AI starts to mass troops. You'll see in the incas game more wars, even though it's mostly a peaceful game.

Peaceful CV with no worker stealing, no wars against culture runaways, and no city-gifting for the purpose of musician-bombing is guaranteed to drag to at least t270. Worker stealing is pretty much the most powerful abuse in the game because it gives faster improvements and hence faster development in terms of food, production, and gold -> faster build times, more growth and science... earlier than if you built workers yourself, which also takes 7-10 turns for each.

Selling resources one by one is more like poor coding by Firaxis, though in real world wholesale is cheaper than retail, so it makes sense for the AI to pay less when you sell them 5 horses instead of 1. :p

PS: Will you do the Arabia replay?

If you're going to do a peaceful non-exploit game, I'd love to see a DomV one even more, preferably with a completely unexceptional civ :)
