Mmm shame Hattie didn't attack this turn. Now this does change the dynamics a bit now though and it might be worth attacking with our cats this turn. We know we will get hit with the cats/trebs next turn but if her troops are weakened enough will she attack with them or wait to heal by which time we will have alot more troops and LBs in Kyoto.
 
Have seen the save now. Hattie has 18 killing units + her siege which can attack us next turn. Against we have 24 units incl 4 to be upgraded LBs. Still unsure whether or not to suicide some or all of our cats. I think after all we should just leave them in the city and hope.. :) Bearing in mind for 8 killer attacks by Hattie they are likely to be the main defenders as they won't suffer from collateral damage. That means a max of 10 defensive units + all cats would be killed still leaving us 6. Doesn't seem great :lol: but this is the worse case scenario.

Plus on top by adopting Nation/slave/theo we can draft 1 axe and whip 1 fresh lb from Kyoto this turn leaving us a minimum of 8 units surviving.. :). Next turn the same though we might have to draft axes and whip archers from Osaka/Tokyo as they won't have the pop. Plus the other troops on their way and hopefully from sheer weight of units we'll keep Kyoto.

@McArine we will lose all our caste specs once we go into slavery so I would max hammers everywhere. Even Kyoto would be down to 9 pop so doesn't need to run specs. Or shouldn't do.

Tech would sell paper to HC for his 100 gold and upgrade all 4 archers to lbs in Kyoto.

Science slider down to 0 and bank cash so if we have to upgrade more units we will have a bit of cash.

More thoughts about nationhood. If we draft Tokyo/Osaka this turn and whip Lbs there pop will be down to less than 6 so won't be able to draft anymore there though we will be able to whip archers/spears.

Good to see Liz's forces coming from the North as we can still get Hammy to close borders with her. As long as she has siege our warrior in the North should pick it up if it heads our way. Just have to look each turn.

Might be an idea for Palitpura to build a few LBs for its own defence as well and keep Agra on missionaries. Hammie does have a big stack to our North as well as on our border and if that starts heading our way?
 
Definitely don't have the expertise or knowledge of combat mechanics to advise much on this situation. But since we already learned Feudalism, if we get lucky and survive long enough, we should try and push for Guilds/Banking after MC/Machinery. Adopting Mercantilism could help appease those angry buddhist 'Gawas.

I was just about to post something similar with regard to getting Banking & adopting Mercantilism. We wouldn't get the favorite Civic bonus unless the other AI Civs adopted Mercantilism, so if/when we learn Banking, we may want to consider gifting Banking to all the AI Civs.

Why are we researching Metal Casting/Machinery? It is on the path to get us Banking, but we haven't researched Iron Working yet, so we can't build Crossbows. Is it just to allow us to build Macemen? MC/Machinery is 5 turns at our current research rate. Since we know Education, we could research Gunpowder in 4 turns at our current rate. Wouldn't Musketmen be a better defensive unit than Macemen?
 
Big discount on learning mc and machinery due to all the AI knowing it. Possibility to build castles/3 move units with engineering. Think we should turn off research atm as cash would be needed to upgrade archers to LBs for the next few turns.

Saying that gunpowder is a solid choice especially as we might be facing knights etc. Saying that a 1 turn IW tech isn't bad either but I think if Toku had any it wold be in the East. Not saying that we don't have any though?
 
I am not normally a big fan of Muskets. However, drafting them now may be our best bet!
 
I think it's still important to play the next turn just 1 turn at a time.

Points for this turn:

Questions in Bold.

1) Keep research on MC->Mach or change to GP? Both have their merits and I'm happy with either. MC->Mach is the cheaper of the two, despite was the science adviser says.
2) Set science slider to 0%.
3) Change civics to Nationalism + Slavery + Theocracy. Some discussion on Police State. My preference is stick with Rep - what do others think?
4) Go around all cities to micromanage all the population that used to be caste system specialists and should now be working tiles.
5) Trade out Paper to HC for 100 :gold:
6) Upgrade Kyoto's archers to Longbows.
7) Draft axes in Kyoto+Osaka+Tokyo.
8) Reset builds in Kyoto+Osaka+Tokyo+Bombay to longbows. Do we 3-pop whip them immediately if they aren't completing this turn? It's inefficient, but does give the unit straight away. I think in Kyoto we should definitely do it. Do we build archers (cheap!) and then upgrade them to longbows, or do we simply build longbows?
9) Move all units except GG into/toward Kyoto. Do not attack with our cats. Any team members think otherwise?
10) Say a prayer to the RNG gods.
11) End turn...

I could play it within 8 hours from now if others support the various choices or we get a consensus on alternatives.

I agree with the PPP.

Go for gunpowder as a tech. Though at 0 research as we might need to upgrade some archers to lbs.

Sell tech. My only concern with giving out edu etc cheaper is advancing hostile AI's research so we face more advanced units.

Civics. Without caste we can't run artists and we don't want to run any other specs. We get +2 happy from barracks so I would run PS for 5 turns. We lose the 3 beakers from the GG and thats it so not really alot and the +25% hammers for mil will come in handy for whipping etc.

So civics for me. PS - Nation - Slave - Theocracy.

This turn I would draft axe from Kyoto/Osaka/Tokyo. Def whip LB in Kyoto. I would do in Osaka/Tok as well this turn. Prob have to whip archers after that but see how money holds out. Edit: and RNG!!!

Upgrade all Archers in Kyoto to LBs.

Still unsure on cats :dunno:.. Saying that they do get the 25%defence bonus for being attacked across the river and as they won't suffer collateral damage won't be awful defenders except against horse archers so would keep them in the city.

I briefly tested the battle without all of the individual promotions in place(limited time), and we seem to survive in the short run at least!
