Why not write a version that runs under DOS ... <VBG>

2. In ... terrain modification mode, left-click at the map dublicates the right-click, ....
Centering of big map with mouse click added.

3. Placing mountains doesn't remove the irrigation; placing ocean doesn't remove roads; etc.....
I have modify the program to remove all underlying terrain improvements when changing terrain type.

TerraForm ver 1.0.17 now runs on Windows 98 . I believe that it will also run on ME and 98SE

GoldBerg send me an email about what ever screen resolution problems you are having. Currently you need a minimum of 1024 by 768 screen size.

win98se
res: 1024*768

TF 1.017

after install and program start:
runtime error '13'

no PATH 'creatable'
while hitting at path in the FILE menu
nothing happens

even
EXiT don't work.
just the X right top corner works.

note:
because of the non moveable windowsize it looks fixed like this

I think it is the following.
Make sure that you have
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) CORE 1.5 (Windows 95/98)
on your system. Look again at the first entry
Email me and we will do further test.

o.k.
WMI_CORE.1.5.Windows95-98
installed now.

...

while trying to test something
it says

All other tabs are currently disabled

that means: NO TAB
'works'.
...
before somebody maybe 'wants to register' 'something/anything'
that somebody should see
if something works.

Program is unregistered.
Save function only works after registration.

...
not just the save function...

PM is out.

all the other tabs are debug functions sorry I haven't removed them from view.

use the path function to select a path to your map and sve files
and use open to load a map file all functions but save should work if there isn't some other trouble with 98SE
you must regester for save

You silly dilbert twit.
Can't you read? What does it say?
Go to http://www.civfanatics.com and send an email to Dack.
Include in that message the continents of the text box below.
You will receive back a key that will enable this program to run on this machine.

The key word is email. YOU have never requested a key. You go on like a spoiled child. I also have another life away from this. KEYS can take some times take up to a week. And most likely never on a weekend unless there is three feet of snow outside and then I would be outside shoveling it.
I went out of my way to get 98 to run for you. Didn't we run a test on Saturday?

So for YOU -- before you send your email requesting a key.
go up the that post of yours ATTENTiON!

and edit in some text in the same font about your foolishness, inability to read simple instructions, and a thank you for me getting Windows 98 to run for you. About now that looks like it was a real ill use of my time.

is
1. correct information (not every member get's a key, the tool won't work without a key with win98se)

and
2. reveals what you have done here once again - pulling strings on other users.

send me the key - i want to see if TF map editor tool will work after i have that key - i am not able to test anything with it - so i can't tell you about the next runtime errors or else at win98se.

btw.
as far as i know
1.) ...there are a lot of members outside that still use win98 so you didn't just do it 'for GoldBerg' - no no dack.

and 2.) ...would it be interesting to read from you the story why you did lock your TF map edit tool in it's testing phase with a registration key -
as far as i saw it's the first time a programmer does this here -
why isn't TerraForm simply in the download section at civfanatics
for beta testing etc. ... -
it's pretty unusual at civfanatics forum...?

dack - your tool should be free to CFF members -
civ.dos.1 is dying anyway more from day to day.

do you really want to ask every member here
before he/she get's a key?
You (just) wrote that this additional work and you don't have time -
and by the way:
3.) ...what kind of information is "collected" with the encrypted registration-info from my TF installation i did send you with the key request?

I'm not using this unless it's completely free.

Quotes from GoldBerg in Green
1. correct information (not every member get's a key, the tool won't work without a key with win98se)
Won't work with out a key with any operating system. Any one who followed the simple procedure of sending a email received one.

send me the key - i want to see if TF map editor tool will work after i have that key - i am not able to test anything with it - so i can't tell you about the next runtime errors or else at win98se
If that is correct that you are not able to test anything with it. Then perhaps it is not going to work at all in 98SE, but I would be surprised as it works in 98 (first version)

as far as i know
1.) ...there are a lot of members outside that still use win98 so you didn't just do it 'for GoldBerg' - no no dack.

Let me tell you that number of people that are using this would not fill a mid size dining room table. You are in fact the only 98 user to show any interest. I have had some difficult bugs in getting this to run, other user were very kind and traded many emails back and forth to work out the bugs. It is actually true that (see entry #24) that I work on getting 98 to run thinking that you would work me to get this running. I am just amazed.

and 2.) ...would it be interesting to read from you the story why you did lock your TF map edit tool in it's testing phase with a registration key -
See entry #4. I really didn't want to do all this work without knowing that someone was using it. And programming the registration key was a good learning experience.

as far as i saw it's the first time a programmer does this here
Unfortunately, I'm am the only game in town. There is no one else working on any CIV dos programs that I know of. If civfanatics didn't exists this program would not be available. If they did not allow this forum to be used in this manner TerraForm would not be available.
why isn't TerraForm simply in the download section at civfanatics for beta testing etc.
It will probably end up there, but as you can see at this writing I'm up to build 1.0.18. This gives a place were users can interact suggest changes, spot bugs etc.... I didn't think I would have to spend time because someone could not use Email.

it's pretty unusual at civfanatics forum...?
I wish there were ten programmers trading information. There are still data fields in the sve file that I can't figure out. Most of the stuff I learned about CIV is by way of save a file, make a move, save the file, do a binary compare of the two, dig for hours looking for the differences, try to figure out what it means. This is truly the effort of a mad man.

dack - your tool should be free to CFF members - civ.dos.1 is dying anyway more from day to day.

IT IS FREE - If having a count of the people using this program is payment then I guess its not. civ.dos.1 is not dying it is DEAD.

do you really want to ask every member here before he/she get's a key?
Once again their are so few people that want a program like this. I don't want to be updating this program if it is not being used. I am often surprised by the view counter those numbers must be the same 10 of us looking over and over.

3.) ...what kind of information is "collected" with the encrypted registration-info from my TF installation i did send you with the key request?
Just enough to identify the machine uniquely, if I programmed it correctly the key will only work on the machine that requested it.

Now to the real problem at hand. I wanted you and anyone else who wanted a key to email that request. So that I could send the key and an attached backup file. I am doing this for goldberg only, because he is unable to create an yahoo email for himself

I have created a Email address called goldbergciv@yahoo.co.uk
go to
http://uk.yahoo.com/

click on mail enter goldbergciv
enter your password: (I have sent you a PM with the password, if you want it here I'll post it)

click on inbox for your email

.

This is just plain silly. Everyone else send an email and remember Goldberg is a special case!
.

a HUGE *thankyou* to Dack for programming
TerraForm version 1.0.17.
:goodjob:

my first impression (after registration) is
that it is REALLY fast. :)

MAP & GAME editing and saving *in a second*
- that's what i always did look for!
(i used to work with the excel script)

it would be great if you would remove all *GUI things* that don't work
in version 1.0.17
and change those
Sve File | Option | Statistics | empty | Main | New | Island Sea
tabs
to "ACTiONS"
Terrain Modification | Terrain Improvements | Unit | City | ...

to
make it look more 'clean' and version 1.0.18 'worth'... ;)

.
.
.

but, Dack - please:
release a key-free version
OR leave (at minimum)
a copy of a key-free-version 1.0.17 or '1.0.18' to CFF
or another site / person / service of your choice
(just for security reasons) -

this TF version is already fantastic -
if 'something happens' and you are not able to generate & send keys
this great civ.1.dos - pushing editing tool is - LOST...

first tests did show that with my system ('conditions') (win98se/amd 1.2GHz thunderbird processor/ 256MB RAM) it's better to SAVE regulary after some changes -
after changing a lot of 'this and that' ( terrain , units, city and so on ) it's possible to get a runtime error
( i will try to look for the code/number/register
when it's happening again next time ).

.
.
.

suggestion / request

is it possible to add "WONDERS" (maybe connected with CiTiES)
into TERRAFORM ('simply' (i know... ) something like
CiTY --> WONDER SELECTiON --> WONDER --> ADD / REMOVE

the problem with another game editor is
that the player/gamer had to know
which wonder is already 'in the game' -

i just did discover that the
GAME (NOT MAP editor)
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=2329391&postcount=24
(DOWNLOAD-LiNK ...with screenshot added)
(freeware) cived.1.4 (from 1993 A.D.)
just offers the possiblity to ADD WONDERS
('til it causes the MORE-MORE bug
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=2592463&postcount=4
to a city ;) )

NOT to REMOVE them...
the only trick 'you' have is to add an already added wonder
to another city
so it's removed from the city that 'had it' before... (with cived.1.4)

so this would be another very useful point
for creating game scenarios with TerraForm.

(i just have to look now if this is supported
in the well-known excel-map-editor-script ; programmer: gaborka
(needs -at minimum- MS 0ffice Excel'97)
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=2078&page=4
DOWNLOAD http://www.geocities.com/civcrazy/civedrel1.zip )

I need all the information you can get. What functions you were using when this happen etc..., the runtime error?

the civ dollarsign editor for the *.sve files?
civ$ - editor
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=112297

i never did test it
because of the cived.1.4 editor
which has 100s of adjustments
but the REMOVE OF WONDERS is missing (there)
and
because of this description at http://www.civfanatics.com/civ1/downloads/
Code:
... ...
It was made freelance, so expect bugs.
If you play around in it for long enough it will crash,
guarranteed.
Some of the features are nearly impossible to use
because they are so user-unfriendly.
... ...
...but this is just a warning for another program ('another Civilization Map Editor' )
that is too close in html-code to the dollarsign editor.
- between those both programs should be more space... ;)

thanks for the hint at civ$ - editor! :)

another one:

after changing my tribe (from chinese or barbarian to babylonians)
with another program (didn't find it out how this works with civ$)
i get a
HumanPlayerNumer <> CountryVisibleBit File has conflicting data
with TerraForm.1.0.18
minimizing the visibility for ALL AI opponents
and SAVE won't help -
restart of TF.1.0.18 of the changed file - same problem.

1. is this critical (somehow)?
2. how to fix this best (with civ$ or TF?)?

i found a way:
open the changed game in civ.dos itself and simply save it -
after this i don't get that
HumanPlayerNumer <> CountryVisibleBit File has conflicting data
when i access that game/map with Terraform.

Quotes from GoldBerg in Green
i get a
HumanPlayerNumber <> CountryVisibleBit - FILE has conflicting data

In my own game play I never change Country/People, so I haven't had much opportunity to explore what happens. There two locations in the SVE file that contain information about the country the human player is playing. One contains the country number 0 through 7 and the other a mask bit for the different countries (e.g. country 0 gets bit 0, country 1 gets bit 1 and so on). I use both of these in different calculations in TerraForm so I test them when the file is loaded to make sure they are compatible. I see by your further test the game repairs the bit mask if the two don't match. Makes me wonder why they store the value in two ways.

On Your other problem of a runtime error I have been unable to generate one myself. I wondering if it may be a combination of Win98 and 128 mb* of memory. As before if anyone has a error generated by the program please report it in full detail.

* I must have miss read as I see it now states 256mb
