Hi!

Does anybody have information about factors about game speed?
What is game lenght in quick/standard/epic/marathon, the same for golden age etc.

I searched on forum but without any useful result...

Thanks!

Marathon = 1500 turns
Epic = 750 turns
Standard = 500 turns
Quick = 350 turns

Everything is adjusted according to speed so it takes 50% longer to build things on Epic speed. Movement and combat is still the same though.

Actually not everything. Lots of things are not adjusted, which changes how the game works fundamentally. Spain's NW gold bonus is still the same. Faith costs are higher for missionaries, but things you get, such as science from interfaith dialogue, is the same, meaning the faith-to-science efficiency is about 1/3 of what you get in a normal game. Golden Ages are still 20 turns, but on marathon that's about 6 turns in standard time - so it's a lot shorter, in effect. So on, so forth. Some things are adjusted, others are not. It's actually rather annoying and breaks a lot of things.

I don't ever play on anything but Marathon, but what I do dislike are the extremely long build times. Like, if you're weak and a strong neighbor attacks, it will take close to 20 turns to build a single swordsman compared to 5-6 in standard.

Yeah if you're not ready you're dead

I play only on epic. Standard seems hectic to me and marathon, my speed of choice in all previous civs, drags unbearably in early game. But just like MarshalN pointed it out, some mechanics in lower speeds are nerfed to the point of uselessness.

i see this list of turns quoted, and i believe it is correct since my marathon game was at turn 1500 at 2050 AD.

what i dont understand is when looking at the gamespeed.xml for marathon i calculate 1200 turns @ 2050. please help me find the missing 300 turns.

years per turns date
15 200 -1000
10 150 500
8 40 820
5 90 1270
2 60 1390
1 660 2050
total 1200

When you get to later in the game you get several turns per year, it comes up with july 1967 for example.
And it's definitely more than 1200 because I just finished a game on turn 1250ish and it was about 2015

yes. i noticed this too. I think im using an outdated gamespeed info file. other ones in the mod directory use months as units of time and it equals 1500 turns @ 2050. :confused:

As for golden apples, it is as follows without the additional buffs:

Quick - 10 turns
Standard - 12 turns
Epic - 16 turns
Marathon - 20 turns, could be wrong on that one. Haven't played marathon in a while.

129 (1) [1881 AD]
180 (1/2) [1971 AD]
264 (1/4) [2037 AD]
156 (1/12) [2050 AD]
Total Turns: 1500
