BNW: Venice

I prefer Culture Victory for Venice. The low policy and national wonder cost will plow you straight through Aesthetics and Rationalism if you manage to snag a decent amount of wonders. The gold makes a less peaceful CV very viable.

I've been trying Venice without buying any city states at all. Probably not the best plan, but it's worked out. So far I'm quite a ways ahead in science and own most CS's. Went Patronage of course. It shouldn't be hard to win dipomatically with them. Obviously, as has been said, with 1 city, and doubled trade routes rake in as much gold as possible, then you can do anything.

It's sometimes an option. I had one Venice game where I had a cultural city state nearby with whom I already had influence, and a had a lot of sea resources but not many hammers. So I used the MoV for a mission, allied the city state and used the 800 gold to buy a lighthouse and a few fishing boats.

I agree that the Great Lighthouse is bad but the merchant point is what is important. Having a specialist in your market gets you 3 points, not enough to gain from your 25% National Epic boost. But add the Great Lighthouse moves you to 4 points thus gaining 1 from 25% National Epic boost. Same applies if you add a garden. 3 from market goes to 4 with 50% boost. 4 from market/GL goes to 6 from 50% boost

I'm pretty sure that these fractional boost for GP points have the fractions carry over.

ie if you're making 1.25 GPt from 1 GP + Epic, you advance 5 GP toward your great person in 4 turns.

I'll make 100% sure of this and return and correct myself only if I am wrong.

Pretty sure it's been tested and confirmed that GP point fractions are preserved, even if not displayed in the UI.

Aaarrrggghhh No way!!!

I started up a game as Venice (archipelago). It was going really well. Had a pretty good starting location with marble and wine. I beelined for Colossus and Great Lighthouse and got them both! Then I had to save it and I realised..... I was playing on 4 (prince)!!! That's why it all went so well! I usually play emperor. So I guess this was my trial run and I restart one on emperor soon.

By the way, it was the first time in a very long time I didnt get to found a religion.
