While We Wait: (Almost) Anything Goes

Just wanted to say hi. Wonderful to see Thlayli and North King and Luckymoose and Daftpanzer among others still around. I almost remember you as brothers, and realize that I also know nothing at all.

Remembered the forums and just spent some hours reliving my glory days. This place saved me as a teenager. Looking back at all the material created, who knows how many countless hours we have all contributed to something that in the end exists for no purpose other than a sort of pure and enlightened entertainment. Also, that in these fantasies there exists a record of communication and connection that is to my mind more objective and more reasoned than any other strata of the now bloated commons of our digital spaces.

We literally created worlds from scratch, and they were better than utopian.

Vive le NES!

Hey, welcome back! Umm. You probably don't know me. I don't know you, either, but, well, er, still. I'm not really a NESer, to be fair, and I'm a silly IOTer and so on. Still, I'd recommend that if you're looking for something new and interesting to play, to check out my game. Give it a look. PM me if you have questions or whatever.

Hi Insane_Panda!! I do remember you from my earliest NESer days, roughly 10 years ago. I echo your sentiments, indeed. Great to see you again :)

It'd be awesome to see you stay! (Although I shouldn't talk, I just vanished for about a week or two on you guys... apologies for that. College is still sorting itself out.)

So it seems we're all being drawn back here... But for what purpose, one wonders???

SOMETHING IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN

The NESoracle has spoken.

Panda, it's fantastic to see you! I'm running a NES focused on culture-groups, rather than nations, and we've just started to hit the agricultural revolution and the dawn of permanent settlement, if you're interested in that.

Also, if you'd ever like to hang out, we have an IRC chat at warrensofthought.com, channel #nes!

And if you're just passing through, it's great to hear that you're well! There are too many greats of this community who have quietly slipped off into obscurity, it's very good to see you again.

This was truly heartwarming to read. It's so great to see you still around, Panda. As Iggy said, our IRC remains active and there are plenty of NES projects still moving forward.

But I agree, the friendships formed here are some of the strongest and most lasting I've ever had, and I believe they will endure for the rest of our lives. We have a special community here, and I'm committed to preserving it as best I can. :)

They are onto us, fall back!

Jokes aside, just wanted to check how this place is faring after all these years. Nice to see some old beards still hanging around!

What is GOING ON? There has been a calling, and those of us who wandered away are finding their way back, while those of us who have born this weathered and hoary burden these long years stand vigil.

Hot diggity, good to see you andis! It's been a rough few years, we have a critical Finn shortage. :(

Hi Andis!!! Great to see you again :)

Going purely by memory, here are associations that come to mind - Umidia, the pseudo-african seagoing empire in DNES2, and a heavy weapons specialist in UFONES ;). Also, several NesLife3 creatures, I'm thinking of shark-like ones that existed.

As for Insane_Panda, I believe he created Anguille and the pseduo-gallo-romans in DNES2, was also in UFONES as a soldier and also took part in NESLife series at some point.

Weren't we all such ragged things, then? Filthy mongrels of an age now lost, seeking, yearning, starving for something unique, and finding it here. To say we've come a long way is to say the earth is round. Some of us are still here, if not for the games, for the community, as Thlayli said it (friendships and other nerd things like that, pfft). Good to see you, Panda.

This is all so pleasant to read.
