Scrapping two technologies in a game isn't normal. But in G+K it is.

AAAnd you think I will say "G+K. Not even once." eh? NOPE.

Why did Firaxis scrap both Mass Media and Telegraph? Does a 'religion and espionage' expansion not need propagation? What about televangelism? Don't spies need to tap into communications networks? Won't Beach and his guys fix this situation?

Seriously, what's your opinion on the new tech tree?

I like it for the most part. It has some quirks (airplanes can be had before combustion) but overall I like it a lot better than in vanilla.

I think some techs need more prerequisite techs. You can unlock Trebuchets without researching Iron working? Stuff like that.

there are a few that seem funky. I think that iron working/steel/gunpowder are all so close together, I mean they're what, 4 techs apart? Considering swordsmen got nerfed, I think iron should at least be revealed earlier. Who is rushing to iron working now? It's construction and compound bows that is the golden child.

Same with great war infantry and standard infantry. 1 tech apart for +20 strength? Just go with one or another.

And then the gap between cannon>Artillery is 2 techs, and artillery>mobile rocket artillery is just massive, like 8 techs or something. I know they threw in gatling guns to bridge that gap, but come on those are just pure defense. 1 tile range? who's going to go on a rampage with that. They get slapped down by great war infantry so fast.

Speaking of WWI and WWII infantry, both have quite few difference ingame (WWII infantry and their 20 more Strength than WWI infantry) I think only one iteration needs to be keeped.

Meanwhile the evolution of anti-cavalry infantry is too weird. The evolution's like this:
Spearmen>Pikemen>Lancers>Anti-tank Guns>Helicopters
I have no qualms about Spearmen and Pikemen, but everything isn't right after Lancers. And a Hind would have too much firepower compared to standard anti-cavalry/anti-tank units. Firaxis should have made a line of specialised anti-tank units:
Anti-tank riflemen, bazookas, RPGs and stuff. Helicopters should make up their own class.

Even worse, every infantry and machine gun has to upgrade into Mechanised Infantry. I suggest Cavalry units should upgrade into Mechanised Infantry (and able to carry infantry) while Tanks are a class of their own.

I think an 18-tiers tech tree is too fast for an epic game. Firaxis should probably make the tree about 20 tiers long (BtS' tech tree has 20 tiers). Probably even include the secondary requirements older Civ games have.

I like it better than Vanilla as well, but the quirks in the late game are annoying from a logical perspective. It would have been better to make all the eras from Industrial onwards 3 tiers instead of 2, so that most of those quirks (Flight at the same time as Railroad, Destroyers without Navigation) can be remedied.

Because the top of the very top of the tech tree starts to fizzle for more VC's at navigation, I often find myself going back to pick up biology to get access to oil AFTER researching oil-using units.

Not only can airplanes be had before combustion, but if I am going into space, it's not rare for me to beeline satellites evidently finishing the Apollo program and launching an important space telescope off steam power.

Once I also beelined lasers, when a runaway had built up quite an air force on another continent, which meant I had computers without electronics. I'm not sure sure how that works.

I agree that the tech tree has improved, but there is certainly still some oddball stuff (the odd placement of oil in biology probably causing the most personal facepalms).

Umm... no, Gatling Guns are enormously powerful on their own. My GG will wipe your GWI very easily. If you play them right, of course, keeping in mind that they are ranged units.

Not to mention that they can get 2 tile range... and 2 attack per turn before that... ouch

They are also strong enough to go stand up to melee attacks in a way that crossbows couldn't.
