40sw4rm's "Old World" is a giant 178x82 Eastern Hemisphere map that provides TSL support for not only the base game civilizations/city states; but for over 100+ modded civilizations with realistic terrain to boot. There are currently three LUA versions of the map with the following random resource allocations: abundant, normal, and a blank map to be used in conjunction with the "Really Advanced Setup" mod for improved random resource allocation. There will be a realistic resource version of the map created at a later time.

Because the map is a LUA script, there is no scenario loading and the map will fully support DLLs that alter the total amount of AI civilizations. This means the map will be able to allow for upwards of 63 civilizations to be played on the map with TSL support.

cannot believe that just we three of us are interested in this map. man this one has to go online! i want to play it so freaking badly! :crazyeye: its just perfect for playing it as the arabs

please give us this piece of art, even its not finished yet. i can add rivers etc on my own. :D

I'm really excited for this to come out. I'd love for some more teaser pics to come out as the map progresses!

Glad to see there's been some positive interest generated in this! :)

My apologies on a lack of updates on my part. I'm extremely busy with work lately (military/EPME courses right now). I'll be taking some leave in the next couple weeks though, so I'll be posting some updates/teasers on my updated product when I finally have the time to do so. I'll also go ahead and say that I’ll be aiming for an early release via Steam around mid-February or early March. It'll more than likely have randomized resources to accommodate this. However, I'll be aiming for a realistic resource placement map soon after.

Feel free to recommend specific civilizations or minor civs (customs are easy to implement), always open to ideas.

I've updated the main post with some teaser images. You can see the city states of the Shimazu clan and Pyongyang in the images along with Korea and Japan (Matsumae Clan occupies Hokkaido which is out of shot). The screenshots are about 70 turns into a normal game just monitoring the progress and border growths of the two civilizations. I have to admit, I'm thoroughly impressed with it. Additionally, you can see my custom oasis feature for Biwa Lake. There will be other custom features implemented as well for other significant lakes of the world.

This will be my last week of EPME too, so I'll be able to devote significantly more time towards developing Europe and the rest of the map after this week. I have a lot of ideas I want to test out in making that particular part of the world interesting game play wise.

As far as yields, justifications for the +1 culture and +1 science yields were based on it being one of the world's oldest lakes, dating it back more than 4 million years and the amount of endemic species found in the lake. It also appears frequently in Japanese historical literature due to it's proximity to Kyoto making it significant enough to put into the map, in my opinion. As far as +4 food, it is a nice early start bonus, however, it'll still produce less than a grassland/river farm with fertilizer and civil service later in the game. :)

I feel Japan is still pretty limited with it being unable to really expand beyond it's current location until Optics. I also intend on making Manchuria more of a strategic resource heavy location, so additional happiness resources are going to mainly have to come from south of its location (much further) or through trade. Korea is also going to be devastating to it's health once turtle ships come into play.

EDIT: I plan on adding additional lake features like Loch Ness!

Hey 40sw4rm, I noticed that there is a city-state right below the actual civilization of Japan. I was wondering if there was anyway to add something like a unification bonus where if you conquer city-states with the same culture as your civilization then you won't get as many warmonger points as you would normally.

If it is possible, it's definitely beyond my modding skills. I really like the idea, though.

In terms of progress, I finish my exams for EPME tomorrow. With that said, I should be devoting a lot more time and effort into completing this.

I've also gone ahead and updated the main post with a screen shot of the main map and capitals placed for the playable civs. Due to the base game's limits of 22 civilizations, some civilizations that I would like to have included have unfortunately been left out. Some examples of civilizations left out include:

Zulu: Thought process behind him is because of how large the map is, it didn't make sense to include him in southern Africa pretty much alone and by himself for the majority of the game.

Rome: Left out due to how crowded I've made central Europe. Additionally, options for Rome to expand directly south into Africa were mediocre considering how much desert makes up the northern half of the continent. I will make that area a city-state cluster. I was also considering Venice with a city-cluster Rome, however, limitations in amount of players and the AI's handling of them (majority of the time) ruled that out.

Greece: Would've been interesting, closeness to Ottomans/Byzantium and the city-states I'm including into the game would've made this very interesting. However, it's hard to justify putting them in over others with the player limitations.

Babylon: I wanted to have them in there. I thought they had a very interesting starting area in between Persia and Arabia. However, I chose Ethiopia over them in order to prevent Arabia and Egypt from just having a free pass to expand into North Eastern Africa.

NOTE: Russia is not in the screen shot, however, they are in the game. I overlooked placing them when I made this screenshot. :)

I would like to see screenshot of your Old World with all the entities not only the civs, but why not having Songhaï at least ?

Just a question : what circa epoch the set of civs are from ?

Will be a simple map finally ? I hope for it... Can run TSL Maps but not more ;-)

Great map, how many religions at once ?

The civilizations don't follow any specific era theme currently, it's more on what I felt would make for an interesting game. They will be easily editable to users who download the map, however-- so you could replace whoever you want. The map will also have two versions, one will have randomized resources, the other will be realistic and will require users to download the "More Luxuries" mod.

There will be no limits on the religions as far as my map is concerned.

Just wanted to get some opinions on the city states for eastern Asia so far. I have a screenshot of the WIP map in the spoiler tags:

Spoiler :

I really think the inclusion of Wei, Wu, and Shu Kingdom city states will really compliment the Chinese UA if they decide to war for their cities. I also took an interesting choice with Japan. Land locking Kyoto and including an Edo city state that will also take Mt. Fuji. Korea can still play it peaceful but will have to deal with Pyongyang's borders. Ryukyu Kingdom (Okinawa) and Hong Kong are there for trade route partners if the players decide to war their closest city-state partners. I also think it's going to be really interesting with the Siamese probably vowing protection like crazy.
