How to fix patching problem and/or patch manually (BTS v 3.19)?

I have civ 4 BTS, and I always assumed that it was fully patched until I got a mod which didn't work, and I found out it was only patched through 3.17. Due to a long series of complications including getting a new computer and losing the disk, the game is not technically "installed" but it runs perfectly (I have all the files but no registry, and it's not in the "right" place on my computer). I tried manually adding the BTS registry keys I found here, but it did not work - the patch updater said the game is not installed. Can someone explain exactly how to add the registry and/or where I have to put the keys, or tell me how to manually patch my game? Thank you so much!!

So I found some keys and now the patcher recognizes the game, but when I finalize the settings and press 'install' it gets stuck there - nothing happens, although the mouse curser is a little hourglass. Any ideas why it freezes like that? thanks!
