Just an idea, but don't you think we should have Great Worls of Cinema from the Industrial era, unlocked with a "Film" tech ? I made a research about which GP it could have, trying to be as broad as I could, and not including any cinematographer alive (so no S. Spielberg, T. Burton or else). What do you think :

Spoiler :
David Lean (Lawrence of Arabia)
Charlie Chaplin (The Dictator)
George Méliès (A Trip to the Moon)
Alfred Hitchcock (The Birds)
Michael Powell (Peeping Tom)
Michael Curtiz (Casablanca)
Joris Ivens (A Tale of the Wind)
Billy Wilder (Some Like it Hot)
Leopoldo T. Nilsson (The House of the Angel)
Krzysztof Kieślowski (The double Life of Véronique)
Luis Buñuel (Belle de Jour)
Alberto Isaac (Mujeres Insumisas)
Louis Lumière (L'arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat)
Emile Reynaud (Pauvre Pierrot)
Alice Guy (La Fée aux Choux)
Orson Welles (Citizen Kane)
Jack Warner (The Jazz Singer)
Federico Fellini (La dolce Vita)
Yussef Chahine (Destiny)
Friedrich W. Murnau (Nosferatu)
Sergio Leone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly)
João César Monteiro (Recollections of the Yellow House)
Akira Kurosawa (The Seven Samurais)
Yasujiro Ozu (Tokyo Story)
Theo Angelopoulos (Landscape in the Midst)
Glauber Rocha (Black God, White Devil)
Satyajit Ray (Charulata)
Jiri Trnka (A Midsummer Night's Dream)
Dino Risi (I mostri)
Roberto Rossellini (Stromboli)
Pier Paolo Pasolini (The Hawks and the Sparrows)
Fritz Lang (Metropolis)
David W. Griffith (The Birth of a Nation)
Walter E. Disney (Steamboat Willie)
Ousmane Sembène (Ceddo)
Serguei Eisenstein (Battleship Potemkin)
Leonid Gaidai (The Diamond Arm)
Andrei Tarkovski (The Sacrifice)
Robert Bresson (Les Dames du Bois de Boulogne)
Kenji Mizoguchi (The Crucified Lovers)
Michelangelo Antonioni (La notte)
Robert Altman (MASH)
Henri-Georges Clouzot (Quai des Orfèvres)
Ingmar Bergman (Persona)
Carl T. Dreyer (The Passion of Joan of Arc)
Raul Ruiz (Comedy of Innocence)
Stanley Kubrick (2001 : A Space Odyssey)
Dziga Vertov (Man with a Movie Camera)

So ... any suggestions to add or take out ?

If this can be modded in, I would like this - although I think having three different artists is already plenty, films would deserve to be in.

Add the Hollywood wonder, in a similar vein to Broadway.

Also, what would be the secondary ability of a cinematographer?

Well, it could be a mix between the Great writer and the Great musician, and give you culture (to lesser extent than the Great writer) and spread tourism throughout all civs (to a less extend than the Great Musician). Or the ability to lower a civs total culture.

The active ability could reduce or increase Ideology pressure depending if its used within your borders or a different Civ's borders.

(Propaganda)

So... pretty much what a Great Musician does already? Same, but different?

Copyright issues? That is also reason why we dont have modern music or art.

It's probably not a good ability. Though you could use it in your own borders when not going for a Cultural victory, to ensure you're not getting pressured too hard by other Ideologies. It would have a much stronger pressure effect than a Concert Tour, since the later gives Tourism for the victory.

Copyright should be a non-issue though, for non-commercial mods.

We don't really need more great artist variations. GWAM is enough already IMO, with all the guilds and separate specialists things already seem really clunky.

On a side note, are there any modern works of music in the game? I keep popping obscure 19th century operas and adding them to my broadways and radio stations lol. Even although the icon for artists/musicians/writers updates for the era (i.e. when you generate one the pop-up message has a kind of era-specific graphic)

Sure, John Adams, Antonín Dvořák, George Gershwin and of course Michael Jackson are from the modern period. Probably many more too.

ps. those "obscure 19th century pieces" are technically modern too.

I'm talking the Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, Beatles - THAT period of modern music lol. Pieces of music that would actually be played by a radio tower in the late 20th or 21st century?

The generic image for a piece of great music is an old European orchestra, regardless of culture or epoch

Ben, I want to say one word to you, just one word: copyright.

I think they had an unused art for the pre-BNW modern Great Artist, which looks like a cameraman actively filming something. When I played BNW I was excited to actually see all these modern Great People art in use, but I didn't see that film producer anywhere :(

I think Great Cinematographers can do like, cut off culture output from a civ you don't like, so you can bully them and assimilate their culture with ease with your tourism.

I think this is an interesting idea, than you can do anything with this. Why not Great Astrophysicists, Choreographers, or Judges? I think Musicians, Writers, & Artists are enough. But it would make a decent addition if that isn't enough for you.

How about prehistoric art, like cave paintings? Have anthropologists extract them from "prehistoric" sites.

Their second option could be "Blockbuster Monopoly", which steals one civ's culture output for you for 10 turns. (If Portugal is generating 200 culture/turn then they get nothing for 10 turns and I get 2000) Also you can get 20% from each civ on the planet without dropping any culture output from them. Carries negative diplomatic modifier. Lethal against cultural giants you're rivalling for a cultural victory.

Indeed, why not Great Game Developers? That should be one of the victory conditions. Building Civ 5 within Civ 5 itself...

What if you could use great people to boost points for the World Fair, definitely makes historical sense.

On a side note, a great athlete could be the international games' version for this.

At least for me, only under very rare circumstances would I ever use up a great person like this, however.
