We're looking pretty good. Tough bit about getting HBR.

Caused me to wonder. Do both parties in a research agreement get the same tech? If so then signing an agreement with someone behind you tech-wise would provide a lesser tech than signing with someone ahead of you. Have you guys seen anything related to this?

I haven't read anything on it, I'll look into it. Signing that RA with Cathy got us Acoustics and we didn't research it, so I'm not sure on if a RA from an AI gives us the tech they're researching or vise-versa.

Ok, I found this

Research Agreements (post Philosophy) are probably the most cost effective way to get an expensive new tech (once techs start costing over 500 beakers). Pay 150 to 300 gold and receive a random tech in 30 turns as long as you don't go to war. Currently this is bugged such that declaring war ends RA and gives the tech instead of cancelling it. Human players can exploit this by making a RA and then declaring war soon after to speed up the tech.

Also found Re: Research Agreements So it seems like a good idea to pick up techs we don't have.

So signing RAs with backwards civs is a good idea. If only it was easy to see who's backwards.

Also RA get stronger the later in the game it is as you are getting a better gold to beaker ratio.

Can't look at the save as I'm away from my PC ATM. I guess build some Longbows and bring our navy home in case a DoW is coming.

Doesn't look like Monty will DoW on Arabia. There is a massive fleet of workers heading to Arabias annoying new northern cities. Wish we had a couple of caravels to kill them. Also Arabia already has gunpowder.

I guess beeline Cannons and hope for the best.

Will think about this more later as I only got home earlier today.

First off sorry for the delay and lack of plan but I've been having a RL nightmare recently. Betterish now though.

I went and played without a plan as I'm away for several days again.

PFT

I start to bring our Caravel and Longswordsman home.

I do a little bit of tile micro.

1

IBT Askia gets worried about our forces near his borders
Spoiler :

I politly say don't worry as we have hardly any troops near him.

Our Iron deal to Cathrin ends so I renegotiate.
Spoiler :

I call in on Harun to see what he thinks of us.
Spoiler :

A bit aggressive then.

I ask Ram and Oda for PoS against Harun and both say no :(

2

A GSci is born and I bulb Navigation so we can pimp our Tris to SotL.
Spoiler :

Hastings, LB > Lib

3

Oda asks for an RA. I decide to say yes as if things go tits up with Arabia then we will need friendly AIs to avoide a dogpile.
Spoiler :

Our GSci last turn completes a quest for Almaty and they become our friends.

I upgrade some of our Tris to SotL for only 170 gold a piece! Thats such a ridiculus bargin.

4

Canterbury, LB > Market
Coventry, Col > Barracks

I sell the last of horses to Oda as we don't really need them. Forgot the sceen but it was 2 for 90 gold (all he had I think).

5

Steel is in on to Gunpowder.
Spoiler :

6

IBT Eygpt and Arabia sign an RA.

London, Treb > Seaport

7

Not much just a little city tile micro now we're in positive happiness.

8

Our deals with Cathrin and Harun end. I trade our Fur to Monty and I trade some Whales to Harun.
Spoiler :

Didn't want to trade to Harun but he was about the only AI with any cashflow (over 100pgt!). Thinking more I regret giving him this boost. Cathrin has no gold so I ignored her in this round of trade.

Hastinggs, Lib > Wealth. Our gpt was at 0!
Coventry, Barracks > SotL
Warwick, Caravel > Market

9

....not much apart from some troop movement....

10

IBT Oda asks for a PoS against Cathrin and I say no in the gentle way.

We find out about the most well fed People in the world.
Spoiler :

Nottingham, LB > WB

Info

Tech
Spoiler :

So after Gunpowder is in we can either go Chemistary for Cannons, up to Banking for Banks or go for SciThe to reveal Coal. I lean towards Cannons.

Economic
Spoiler :

As you can see troops are really costing us esspecially as we're not using them ATM.

Demo
Spoiler :

Who's the daddy now?! We go 1st in Soldiers. Up yours Arabia.

Heres a screen of our troops south of Arabia.
Spoiler :

So I'm thinking it might be about time to smack Harun down. If we use our naval adantage to weaken him first we can work our way up from the south of his Island. Once its cleared out then we take peace as he has cities spread all over and wiping out an AI is a big diplo negative with the world.

If we did DoW then spend our gold on Venice ASAP so we don't spend it on troops without realising.

As for our cities I think Coventry needs a Lighthouse and maybe even a Granary. London coulld use a Uni and maybe even the NE.

Good deal on the set taking Nav for free. We need to discuss our game plan here. What win condition are we going for? Looks like war and a Domination victory. We're on the right path for that, we have the naval advantage with our SoL. And getting GP for muskets, can bulb Metallurgy with our next GS. Cannons/rifles/SoL we can take on everyone.

We'd been kind of shooting for a diplomatic win. We can still do it if we want, but war is needed either way. We can get a much earlier Domination win if we care to go that route. Canons, rifles, with support from SoL's will certainly do the trick. Use the SoL's to take out the enemy naval threats, then pummel the units and cities. Mop up with canons and rifles, rinse, repeat.
