Can't play with my friend without being REAL close

We're trying to start a MP game 2 humans vs 4 AI Monarch diff but we always spawn real close and need to start again because we don't want to have conflicts sharing territory and waste fun just because the map doesn't wants to allow us so we're wondering if anyone could tell a way to start a game without being very close so we can conquer computers instead of ourselves

We're running out of ideas on what to do to avoid starting next to the other

Any help would be appreciated

I don't know if it is too late or not.
You have two options.

The first one is to be in the same team.

The second one is to use the Mod Dawn of a New Era.
We already faced this issue in some games, and that's why we have implemented the influence zone control. It allows each player to control all his territorial influences.

In the screen below, I have selected all tiles that I don't want any influence :

The turn after, you can see in the following screenshot, I don't have any influence where I had decided.
