Unit Request Thread 3

I'm hoping there is someone kind enough to make me a Magician unit that looks similar to the Magician in the Tarot card deck:

.

And if he could have spells sort of like Grandraem's Wizard-King that w/b great.

See I love the Wizard-King but he looks too old to use as my Magician and I can't seem to find anything that I like in the database. I'll keep perusing it though...

Anyway, I would be using him in my Tarot mod and definitely give you much thanks and full credit. :)

Thanks...

Okay, it's admittedly a stretch, but have you seen NavyDawg's "Jedi Master" from the "Space Opera" mod?

lack of response to my question about Orion stuff makes me assume it's a grey area , but of course it's just right to remove this post in case .

ı'd like to have these ships , just their topviews , translated to a flic , just one frame would do , if possible in 8 directions and just one view only . Although any work on attacks , death or any other stuff ı don't even know would be most appreciated . Meant to be place holders . Until ı get a chance to get the whole 6 fleets one way or the other . And just in case ı reject any responsibility for Antares ; smilie smilie ...

It would be easy, but a bit tedious. Everything you need to make them into units is on this forum, and its free. Why not give it a shot?

Get FLICster and Civ3Multitool, use any editor that can use .pcx files (GIMP is good and free), and then all you need is to take time.

ı loaded -ı think- FLICster or some other programme that opens the files and actually put a dot here and a dot there in a plane , but the new lap top appeared to have lost its heading , doing stuff that scared me a lot . Can try it in my now working old PC but losing it scares me even more . Computer illiterate here ; hurts me at times .

Simple request :)

A Thureophoros (or Thureophoroi) - a simple militia spearman for Hellenistic civilizations.

He has no armor, no helmet, but is armed with a spear (and perhaps a javelin) and his Thureos shield.

It would be so cool if his attacks could include an opening attack with a javelin, then followed up by stabbing spear attacks.

Check the units folder in Rambuchan's Hegemon scenario. There are psiloi and gymnitoi units there.

Of course there are. Most of them have also been released individually, but browsing the database can be tedious. If you download a (tested) scenario you get versions that actually work and that are grouped according to theme.

Unit request:

Could someone please make a Chinese chu-ko-nu to replace the Age of Empires one? The chu-ko-nu is a far better unique unit for China than the vanilla Rider, but I feel like the AoE version just doesn't fit in with all of the other units in the game.

The difference is the magazine and the way of reloading. Sandris unit can work for a Chinese crossbow, but I don't think it really looks like a chu-ko-nu.
The repeating crossbow (諸葛弩), single-fire crossbow (弩), and even a stone throwing crossbow (石弓) were all used in East Asia.

Yes beggers can't be choosers, but the repeating crossbow is a unit I've wanted to make for a long time. However I'm not sure when I can get around to it.

Ancient Chinese MG Battalion FTW!!

That Tang crossbowman is what I'm using as my Chu-Ko-Nu for now, but as you guys said, it doesn't really look like a repeating crossbow. One of those big ones, though, would look truly intimidating in game. Picture a Chinese stack-of-doom of units armed with comically-oversized repeating crossbows massing on your borders.

Could someone take Orthanc's Ship of the Line and alter the places on the hull where the civ colors are? This is such a beautiful ship, but when used with a civilization with bright colors, it looks like a Las Vegas casino cruise ship. If someone could just make the gun ports a darker color of wood, I would be grateful. I've tried to do it, but every time, I screw something up and it looks like crap when I save it. I have no skills when it comes to computer graphics. :(

Here's the link to the unit.

Hi,

I'm interested in two kinds of units and I'm looking for interested people who can create them.

A. Postmodern people using older style weapons like spears, pikes, katanas and replica style swords one might find. Police tonfas, clubs with spikes, heck a frying pan would be great. A person might be decked out with a football helmet, shoulder pads, or riot police gear and have the above. Nunchaku or throwing stars would be awesome as well as a Molotov cocktail. A modern day compound bow and a crossbow units would be ideal. Too bad I don't know how to use Poser. A slingshot with an arrow attachment (it's called a sling bow) would be awesome. I'd imagine slingers would come back in style too.

B. I'd like to have the same kinds of diverse weaponry you see in the Civ 3 units, but with postmodern dress without the fancy uniforms. As a post-apocalyptic mod, then it's doubtful that they'd have a "uniform" with matching embelishment and cap or helmet. They'd have whatever they could find, but would develop the technology to fabricate the weapons...if lucky to find resources.

Think of the immense difficulties in creating protective gear or forging weapons post-collapse. It would happen in time, but you'd be more likely to see a good old shotgun, .45, .22 rifle, an atl-atl, a baseball bat, etc....at least at first.

The mod is unofficially called WROL Plague Edition.

The two major ways people moved along the river back in pioneer times were flatboats and keelboats. If anyone is interested in making those or knows of one already created, then I need those especially. I'm looking for a simple motor boat and sail boat too. Due to fuel restrictions, it's doubtful they would have access to much more than this.

The units database is awesome. I've had so much pure delight looking at the various units, but most won't work without costume modification.

What's the proper way to use existing units from the database? As long as the original creator is thanked in the forum link for the mod, is that sufficient, or do you have to have the actual permission from the creator of the unit? As the game is so old and many people no longer visit the forum, then getting permission for each unit seems daunting. As some particular modders have made so many, then this is somewhat simplified, but some units might be in complete modpacks like RAR or Warfare. If the actual unit creator isn't known but I link to the completed modpack, is that sufficient or not?

Anything in the db is available to anyone (some items have been removed, over time, due to lack of, e.g., the original model-maker's permission) and crediting the contributors to the mod is, in these parts :cowboy: customary & expected.
