PBEM Playtest of AWAW v1.2

By the way, who's turn is it supposed to be? USA? USSR? It's been so long, I'm going to be embarrassed if it turns out to me mine when I check! :)

edit: USSR is up.

After seeing German units were removed from around Brest-Litowsk Soviet units moved into Riga and Kowno, a similar welcomeing to the peoples of Brest-Litowsk to the soviet paradise is currently underway.

Meanwhile German Scientists pour over plans for the BT-7 Tank.

Elsewhere fighting in Finland is fierce and two soviet airbourn divisions are lost due to heavy anti-aircraft fire. The Finnish Rebel army is relluctant to accept soviet leadership... for now.

I'm sure he means Soviet scientists.

Actually Germany and the Soviet Union did exchange research designs in the 30's. Inspite of Germany being closely watched in accordance with the Versailles treaty the two countries also traded a lot in ressources (steel, oil, coal) and had military units trained by each other. As far as I remember the German 35t and 38t tanks were developed in mutual coorporation. But I don't know if that's what Boli is referring to?

*grumbles* I'll re-send again though my other email. My SMTP server has been playing up could have been a fault my end.

"soviet diplomat anxiously waits in Berlin for the Fuhur to see him, a proposal that everything North and East of Warsaw should come under Soviet dominium, in return the Russian government is willing to teach the Germans the fine art of Sovet tank building."

I'm guessing that since his proposed idea seemed to have been agreed to whatever extent, he gifted the tech to the Germans.

Even if that is the case the offer should have been made through Civ2Dip since negotiating with a human players AI counter part in the game is usually a :nono:, unless it's expressly agreed to by both sides.

If the Soviet tech was passed on to the Germans, and assuming the Germans have no use for the tech, I would suggest that the Soviet turn be replayed to reverse this action.

I guess we'll need one of them to let us know if that is indeed what happened and then either replay or go forward from there....

1.) First of all, I have no desire nor wish for this technology. I thought that was just public 'talk' (from the USSR), as obviously I already have better armor in the game. I made no agreement for this tech. You guys are more experienced than I, but... besides being worthless to me (no offense, I already have comparable tanks)... doesn't this actually make my research activities longer? (i.e. isn't this actually DETRIMENTAL to my own research activities!?)

2.) I don't ever want ANYONE to ever access my 'AI' and do any bargaining, tech swaps, etc. I do not think that is 'cool'... at all. That was done to me last game, and pissed me off (some of you will remember). Now, I can see where the confusion came from, USSR talking one thing, me assuming it to be public 'chatter'. I know Boli didn't do anything intentionally wrong, but I think it's a wrong, anyway.

Anybody know the 'definative' answer of #1 above (won't it actually hamper my research efforts?), and how wo.... nah, I simply don't like it. I'd like it taken back, turn done over.

Boli, thanks for the thought, but I didn't ask for it, and don't want it, especially as how I'm almost positive that this would 'slow down' my own research efforts.

1. Yes, all it would do is slow down your research.

2. Normal protocol is for trades to be conducted through the human player rather than with their AI counterpart, as is explained in the PBEM FAQ thread.

Boli was here a little while ago, so hopefully he is already aware of replaying the turn....

I prefer to use the A.I. if at all possible as it is certinaly a lot easier to do such actions - rather than mess around with secondary programs. If it is impossible to do such actions then Civ2Dip is the betetr choice but for such a simple action as gifting a tech it is just a lot easier to do it via the normal A.I. channels

If anyone has a problem with this I'll redo the turn again - I just think for some aspects the simple gifting it just a lot less "hastle free"

Simple Terms: "Germans' received the BT-7 Tank Tech from Russia. as a guesture of good faith and a secure "border" to be recognised by both sides.

This was a very similar arrangement to the none agreesion pact signed in the thirties. The partician of Poland - and the German/Russian exchange of ideas. Even if none came to fruitician in the form of tanks on the field.

Even though the tech is useless to Germany it does show a meassure of good faith - It is similar to diplomats offering case of fine vintainge wine for their guest hospitality as they engage in talks.

I think game wise, it would be more of a 'It's the thought that counts' type thing.

Typically, contacting another player's AI is not allowed and can even be seen as chaeting. But, since all you did was gift a tech, not gain anything from it, I wouldn't think it applies here.

Normally, unless someone explicitily agrees to it, trades should not be done via their AI. Even in games where players are allied, gifting techs can be more of a detriment rather than a help, so they should always be the choice of the receiving party whether to accept them or not.

Very heavy fighting in Finland, an Anti aircraft gun claims 7 bombers in a botched run Another bomber and a BT-7 tank and an Infantry Divison lost near Brest Litowisk. The Kowno mission more successful with Rusian tanks securing the city within days.

Nothing else took place. Russian diplomat sent home and shot.

As I'm playing Germany this time... and you a MUCH improved Soviet Union... I most ASSUREDLY appreciate the thought! However, I didn't expect a tech gift, especially as each tech at this stage slows down further techs incrementally.

Now... if you'd given me something like 'Jet Engine'.... :)
Thanks, and sorry about the confusion. I'll get my turn done in a bit.

POLAND:

A smashing success!
German units seek out and on a 1:1 basis, destroy Polish divisions after divisions. About six+ divisions of entrenched polish units hunted down and destroyed as they attempt to gather for (what would have been) a devastating counter attack against german held Warsaw. City of KRAKOW taken by German forces with minimal infantry losses.

UK AMBUSH~North SEA:

Phyrric Victory Claimed by German Navy!
UK naval forces engaged in a 'pincer' style ambush of German warships prove to inferior to obvious Aryan superiority! Instead of destroying the embattled German surface fleet, superior German naval tactics allow surface fleet to disengage from the British cowardly trap! Damaged German CA assualts UK BB in a 'covering action' for the retiring Graf Spee... only to actually sink the damaged UK battleship! At this point, the Graf Spee, believed to be un-spotted as yet, attacked and destroyed a british SPITFIRE fighter wing, CA and another unit (carrier?). Meanwhile, UK CA outside Newcastle torpedoed and sunk, with another UK CA south of Aberdeen... taking a truly tremdous amount of torpedoes and still remaining afloat!! German units commend that ships damage control parties! Damaged German shipping successful in regaining territorial waters, and are being escorted safely into port via the Luftwaffe!!

Other than that, Copenhagen captured.

USA requests that britain re-creates the Civ2dip file yet again. We have had some technical errors previously but the solutions have been found. We apologize for any inconvenience.

When I played the German the minor's didnt hinder me or declare war on me at all. All they did is provide a buffer against the British, even though the brits ripped them apart pretty quickly.

All my diplomats have been shot pending investigation. Records show they only gifted the BT-7 tech with Germany - which was rebuked.
