WW2-Global

WW2-Global and Sealion:

September 1939 Britain had 1 armoured division, 12 infantry divisions
and 1 cavalry division to defend the British islands.

July 1940 this force had expanded to 2 armoured divisions, 4 tank brigades,
27 infantry divisions (1 from Canada, 1 from New Zealand) and
6 infantry brigades. Huge amounts of artillery and anti-tank weapons had been lost at Dunkirk. (More than 2 000 guns of different types)
Thus the infantry divisions were short on heavy weapons.
The British armoured forces had 350 "real tanks".
That is tanks with guns. There were also about 500 light tanks armed
with machine-guns.

The German invasion force should have consised of: 6 Panzer divisions,
2 motorized infantry divisions, 29 infantry divisions and 2 airborne divisions.
There were also the SS Totenkopf division and SS Liebstandarte Adolf Hitler
regiment. Both were motorized infantry formations in the summer of 1940.

In 2 posts later today I will show why I it will be easier to simulate
this operation in a relevant way on the new huge map compared
to the old one.

If Sealion had took place in reality it would have been a high-risk
operation. (The German Army Chief of Staff Halder called it suicidal.)
This is not reflected in version 2.0 but much better hopefully in 2.1

I am excited to hear. In all my games previously Seelöwe was not very tough. I made the BoB by using Me 109 to catch the fighters and then send the bombers to kill the infantry. After that coming with many transports from Amsterdam. Since the way was short the transports could be used twice a turn. No real problems indeed. Also I am interested to hear how you want to stop the annoying bombardments of the RN.

Adler,

Yes, version 2.1 will be a great improvement.
All game-engines that lack naval interception and air interception
against naval moves have substantial problems to simulate Sealion
in a accurate way.
With regard to Royal Navy bombardments I have no solution yet,
but I am sure I will find one.

Comment on screenshot:

As you can there are 11 cities in Britain itself, compared to 5
in version 2.0.
This fact combined with very few transports available for Germany
until fall 1940 and a special sea tile with move-cost 10 for transports
should make a possible Sealion much more realistic.

Good idea. Only the British ships are a problem now.

Adler

Adler,

One solution could be coastal batterys with range 2.
Given all ships will have to pay 10 MP when entering the new
special sea tile British units could not raid the coasts without risk.

German front report July 1940:
The euphoria of Midsummer is gone. In Afghanistan we have tedious fights with the British featuring 12 Matilda Devisions and about 30 Cruiser Mk 1 division as well as stubborn Soviet counterattacks drom out of nowhere near Novosibirsk.
The French made a naval landing in Albania. We managed to fight them off from Thesaloniki and Belgrade with our last armored reserves.
We found the British airforce, they are using all their planes to bombard Crete however.

PS:Great Britain looks superb

IarnGreiper,

Thank you. I will continue the work with Australia.

Its a surprise that British AI sends so much armour to Afghanistan.
It means that it has managed to establish a large production of it in India.

The Soviet counterattacks are also a surprise with regard to the heavy
losses it must have had.

French AI seems to like naval landings!

Thank you for the report and welcome back.

Yeah I guess this is because the British capital is in Calcutta, which enables all Indian cities to produce without corruption.
And you are right about the French. However I am surprised that those naval landings are so successful!

IarnGreiper,

Yes, that is a big surprise. If only AI could follow up its amphibious
operations they would be to be counted with.

I have encountered a strange problem: I can t build an Intelligence center, it ´s greyed out.

PS: Please remove the hard cap on research of 6 turns

IarnGreiper,

Are you sure AI not have started to build it in one
of your cities? If not, its very strange. I have not heard about
the problem earlier.

On minimum research-time:

OK I will change it.

Oups sorry guys, wrong thread.

I'm actually trying the cold war mod. Rented the movie Nixon recently and it inspired me to the whole cold war era.

I'm still planning to play this excellent Mod, but I'll wait for the huge map in 2.1

There not enough hours in the day for 2 games of Civ at the same time.

DarthCycle,

To avoid confusion:

Do you think you can edit Post 3875 and make a comment on WW2-Global instead?

German front report, September 1940

We reached Mandalay before the Japanese. However we wished we could have researched better tanks earlier, especially since we now can produce Panyer IVF2 and Panzer V, with the later being clearly superior. We lost almost half of our Panyer III on Matildas so far. Often rocket attilery is the better alternative.

We defeated the French on the Balcans and took control of Tirana despite Italian protests. However the Duce seemed to be busy packing his suitcase for his flight to Tripolis. At the end of September we are controlling India north of the line Gwadar / Calccutta. Perisa has become part of the Reich, too.

The Americans were unlucky enough to run into the First German Atlantic Fleet conducting training missions west of Ireland. Four transporters and numerous escort ships were sunk at once.

IarnGreiper,

Yes, the Panzer V was a much better tank than Panzer IVF2 (and the
Panzer IVH). Historian James F. Dunnigan once stated that the
Panzer V was the best tank made during WW2.

You have made a really strong expansion toward India!

On US: To bad AI not can handle its transports.

Thank you and welcome back.

Rocoteh

Rocoteh, I strongly recommend splitting the techs needed for both tanks. In history Panzer IVF2 was earlier and in game there is little reason not to build the better tank even it takes a turn longer.
