Generating a Great Prophet

In most games I don't try hard to get great prophets in favor of other strategies. In my current game, however, I just conquered an AI city which is the home of the world's dominant religion [50%+]. I would like to build a shrine, but I am not sure how best to generate the GPP points I will need to do this. I am currently running the dominant religion as my religion.

Suggestions?

After the point of early Great Prophet wonders, the surest way to get a great prophet is get your Great Person farm, (or whatever city has lots of excess food) spread all the religions you can to it, and then build every temple possible. Seven religions = seven temples = seven priest specialists. Those will get you a Great Prophet in a hurry. Plus you can use cathedrals for even more priests.

I was going to say build a temple, but I didn't realize each temple of each religion gave another priest! In my last game with the Mongols I captured the buddist holy city and then had to wait 100 turns! to get my GP (marathon speed). Do note that I had to other religions in my empire at the time, and would have had to conquer a city with each religion (at that time only 4 in the world) and get the missionaries.

If you build the Angkor Wat, you can allocate three citizens as priests (which are of course also improved by Angkor Wat, so that's good). It generates a few prophet points by itself as well.

Priest slots
1 per Temple
2 per Cathedral
3 for Angor Wat or a Shrine

1 Free Priest with Temple of Artemis

Prophet point Wonders

Stonehenge
Oracle
Angor Wat
Apostolic Palace
Chicen Itza (sp)
Spiral Minaret
?Others?

Shrines give 1 Prophet point (like National Wonders do)

Great Prophet Wonders:
(+2 GP points each)

- Stonehenge
- Oracle
- Temple of Artemis (+3 GP points from free priest)
- Shwedagon Paya
- Angkor Wat
- Apostolic Palace
- Spiral Minaret

Other:
(+1 GP point)
- All Shrines
- Maoi Statues

...I think that's it.

In BTS, the Shwedagon Paya World Wonder also generates Great Prophet points.

Thanks for the advice. Bottom line, however, is that most of the GP wonders are already built in my game, spreading more than a couple of religions to any particular city is very difficult, and so the temple GP's will also be very limited. Anghor Wat seems like the best hope.

Getting a GP isn't too hard if you get two temples and a cathedral, don't be afraid to run other specialists in the city either, getting 50% GP chance in 20 turns beats getting 100% chance in 40, so running 4 priests and 4 other specialists (2 scientists + 2 merchants for a city with a library and a market) is a good way to get one.
