WnH01 - Little Corporal

Reason for not going caste/pac is that we wouldn't save any turns in anarchy by combining civic switches, Thebes needed to get out of anarchy and pop its borders before accessing the food rich tiles for rapid growth, Thebes would also benefit from building Nat Epic before going crazy on specialists.

If you read carefully you'll discover that I agreed to both Stalin's and Justinian's requests (after checking F4 relations screen :p).

I was quite confused. You cancelled deals with fred (both times). I read you'd accepted. Now I've looked at the ss more closely, I've also seen that it's twice in the same year.. :crazyeye: sry dude ;)

Paris generates GPP as well (a few but still) and already produced 1(?) GP and with MoM or so it'll probabely generate some more.
No use wasting hammers in builds we don't need in thebes, and from the looks of it, thebes will clearly be out of revolt (and has its lib running) before we finish lit.
Also the turns in anarchy only "apply" on those cities that aren't in revolt - anarchy during revolt doesn't hurt thebes (the turn counter decreases, does it?) - some turns more on building stuff / running specs in thebes. Only a minor thing thought ;)

So a quiet builders turn set….

First off decided that if were now looking at generating GP’s we might as well take the Pacifism Switch straight away although Org Religion was an alternative as we will be building infrastructure for a while.

We succeeded in getting Buddhism into Thebes so it can work well as a GP Farm in the future, especially as it can switch to mines when it need to build infrastructure.

Once we had Literature in we kicked off Heroic Epic in our military farm.

Didn’t build any military as our only real threats were busy hammering each other.

Also would rather wait to build something more useful than just axes and swords.

Post Literature we went down the Metal Casting Machinery line so we can get forges going and build useful military if we feel we need it…

As far as generating GP’s is concerned we had fairly mixed gene pools but running two scientists in our capital has given us a decent shot at a GS for Education in our capital soon.

With the Great Library unlocked we should secure it safely in Thebes soon..

With not much useful stuff to build initially we got some cash from losing a part bult Parthenon race.

Post Machinery we have part researched Music as the free GA is available and with the Mausolleum of Mauss built a “free” Golden Age feels nice..

Here if the final tech position still hoping to pick up feudalism and construction in trade but we can hand research them quickly.

Options

Music -> Education as I doubt its worth trying to double bulb it
Or
Music -> Nationalism -> Taj Mahal..

Haven’t built Nat Epic as we may want that in Thebes and Great Library was the priority..

Are we turtling through to a Riflemen and Treb onslaught as doubt Maces and Cats will be effective, must admit Grenadiers and cannons feels very Napoleonish and in theme even if objectively less effective..

There is a danger that we will finish S of Zeus in Cuzco even though I only expected to get some cash from part building whilst waiting for forges to be unlocked..

nice set, rj

We can go music > nat (taj), while we burn the GA from music the turn we get it. With the taj, thats 2 GAs, enought to get some scientists to bulb edu, pp, chemistry.
I don't really care whether we use gren/cannons or draftles. Probabely the ones we'll get faster. We can build maces + trebs in orleans now to upgrade later.

Music for a free GA/GA sounds good. SoZ is worth building for denial purposes. Nationalism/Taj also sounds good.
Chances are most AIs have got engineering now (and certainly will have by the time we go fighting with our Napoleonic Armies) so there'll be castles around which seriously nerf trebs so we could either go rifles/espionage (maybe cuirassier /musketeer/ espionage?) or gren/cannon.

captain?? r u there??
:coffee:

Roster:
Winth - on deck
mystyfly
pigswill
Ralph_Jackson - just played
Sweetachson - UP NOW (since ~2 days...)

I'm still here (though I should my finishing my round in ungy's spy game!).

bit disappionting really...

I don't like unfinished games, so I'll play monday or tuesday or wednesday... Unless someone else posts a Got it and we continue this like a "normal" SG. Somehow I don't have the feeling that this will happen but one shouldn't give up hope I guess...

Ralph has been playing his turns.
Sweetacshon is usually pretty reliable - so I'm not sure what's happened.
Winth seems to have an unusual perspective for a team captain/ gameshow host.

Dude, why would you start a SG if you were bored of Civ? I suppose if a SG leader can't be bothered keeping an eye on his own game, I can't either.

I suspect (though hate putting words in other people's mouths) that this was Sweetachson signing off rom this game...

This would make Winth Up but suspect ( as Sweetachson refers to above) he may not have noticed!!

I dont like letting games die, but as I played the last set not much I can do to help here!!

Ralph

If there's three of us willing to play then I'll pm Sweetacshon to see if he's willing to carry on. Until such time as Winth demonstrates some commitment to the game we could put him on autoskip.
It would be unusual to do this, but these are unusual circumstances.

Got your pm, pigswill. In addition to he lack of interest, I unsubscribed after a period of silence. Anyway, if you want to continue, I will help out. I'll need a little time to remember what's going on, but might just have time for a set in the next 24 hrs. If someone wants to go ahead in the next 12 (when I'll be asleep, etc), go for it.

Maybe go for a roster like:

winth: autoskip
Sweetacshon up
Mystyfly on deck
pigswill
Ralph Jackson

Pigswill,

Roster looks good, glad to have you back Sweetachson.

My vote is for

1. Music -> Nationalism - > taj mahal = Double Mausoleum fueled Golden Age with the Music GA.
2. Then after the gloriously artisitic rise of the French Nation switching to a Napoleonic Military frothing at the mouth stage with in theme Units
of Cuirasseurs / Musket men / grenadiers / cannons.

We have a strong position so can play out "in theme"

Ralph

glad to see you back, sweetacshon :goodjob:

so I'm not going to play (yet), I would've played in ~12hrs as well.

I played pretty loosely, which is always the case when I'm feeling superior. Everything went according to plan, Music (GArtist -> GAge) - Nationalism - Construction - Engineering (Education from GSs) - Gunpowder. The GSs are flowing freely from Thebes, which is powered by pacifism and the NE.

The Great Library and the Statue of Zeus are ours, and I went a little wonder crazy with the NE, UoS, Taj, and maybe another started. Do whatever you want with that. There are also a few jewish missionaries for Justinian, until I realised he won't accept them, so send them elsewhere, I guess.

All to plan, though? Not quite. Whoever said Napoleon was sane, anyway? Stalin was beating on poor Fred, so we came to his aid by DoWing on Germany. C'est la vie, Gerry. OK, we are ill prepared, but build some units now, and we are 4 from gunpowder, 2 from another GS, and 5 from another GA from the very french Taj Mahal, so then we can switch up into nationalism, and conquer all of Europe with musketeers and trebs, and cannon soon enough. Go, little fellow, go!

nice set sweetacshon

that makes me up - I'll likely play tomorrow evening

roster:

Winth - autoskip
mystyfly - up now
pigswill - on deck
Ralph_Jackson
Sweetachson - just played

Played 15, 1250AD - 1400AD
The game has been in the bag for quite some time, it's now mop up time. I see some fun ahead :hammer:

IHT
Rearrange our ressource-deals, looks like there has been some bugusing:
Before:

After:

IBT
Stalin builds the AP.

(1) 1260AD
Beg 50g from Shaka

IBT
GS born in Thebes

(2) 1270AD
Make this deal with Shaka

IBT
Shaka builds the SPaya

(4) 1290AD
Cuzco finishes the Taj, we start a GA (12 turns)
Gunpowder in, bulb the GS on PP and selfresearch the rest

Beg 60g from Justinian
I could now bribe Shaka vs Stalin (to me the only bribe that would make sense) but for the price of something like 160g + music + paper + philo + gunpowder. Every one of these techs is a monopoly :D
Switch to Caste System
Pic of Thebes before caste - specs and after. Why on earth haven't we switched to CS much earlier? I just waited those few turns for the GA to start.
Before:

After:

(5) 1300AD
PP in > Guilds

IBT
Fred builds some useless shrine
Stalin captures the barb city I was about to reach

(8) 1330AD
Thebes generates another GS > Aca in thebes

(9) 1340AD
Guilds in > Banking
Make this deal with Justinian

(10) 1350AD
Banking in > RP
Switch to Mercantilism

IBT
Stalin builds the Notre Dame. Cuzco was 4 turns away from finishing it itself

(12) 1370AD
We get 380g for the not-finished ND
We get another GS, still waiting in Thebes to bulb Chemistry

IBT
Fred recaptures Stuttgard from Stalin

(15) 1400AD
RP in > Eco.

---

A few points:
- Switch to Theocracy and continue building maces and trebs. Our offensive untis are waiting in Rheims. Switch on the inherited turn as it is the last of the GA
- Another GP is due in 3 @ Thebes but it'll take longer as we'll leave pac and GA. BTW we're paying very much money for units. Hopefully its a GM. We can send 2 GMs to the ToA city and make trade missions to pay for upgrades.
- Both lib and eco are currently taking 4 turns to research. IMO we should go for Eco first as Shaka can research it as well. Lib is still save, no one has reached edu or philo. We should then take rifling from lib, upgrade and :hammer: the crap out of fred, followed by stalin.
- I cancelled the build of the AWat, which we definitely don't need. Thebes is slowly working on the USak we don't really need either. I prefered the SPaya much more, we could've bypassed Theology. Cuzco is currently building the Sis chap just for fun. All other cities are producing units at a brutal pace. Check the graphs - esp MFG must've improved dramatically with us finishing guilds RP and adopting CS!

To the "war-strategy": I picked fred as target as Just is no threat - weak and our friend, while fred isn't. You should use trebs to reduce defences (so they have something to do) but not sacrifice them. Our numberous CR3 and CR2 rifles will face good odds. We could probabely capture and keep one city, move our trebs in and upgrade them to cannons so we don't have to move them back. We then can move our units out again and let fred recapture it. With cannons, we'll be safe in attacking (strong) stalin.

BTW I had some moments of bewilderment while playing: I suddently lost OB with all civs - most have reopened the borders by now but shaka hasn't. Once he does, you can use the missionaries to spread judaism in his cities. WTH were they doing, moving to rheims? Fred is at war with us, we can't convert him!
