Israel, Philistines and Biblical Civilizations

Thanks for the mod - this civ looks like it will be interesting to play.
And now for some constructive criticism!
Another vote for Synagogues being +1 happiness, +2 culture, +2 faith (or 1 culture, 3 faith) w/artist specialist slot. No religious building should be strictly superior to any other.
Why get the bonus specialist faith at writing, other than for historical/reasonable reasons? As far as I know you cannot get any specialists at or before writing, so it would be more fitting gameplay-wise to move the tech up to Drama & Poetry.
A free Great Person every era just sounds really, really unbalancing. You could get 5 free Great Scientists if you time it right, while still getting 2 free Great Prophets that don't eat faith. Maybe you could change it so they get a free Great Prophet at the start of each pre-Industrial Era, and have an increased yield from Holy Sites or something. Otherwise they would be unreasonably good at science victories, which doesn't sound right for an extremely religious-focused civilization.
The UU looks great and balanced. Do the promotions it has stay with upgrades? That'd be neat.
I kind of wish that the University UB didn't get any science bonus from Jungle tiles, as the Israelites were definitely not a jungle culture, but that anachronism exists for every non-jungle civ in the game. Otherwise looks good too.
The new Founder Belief is awesome.
Thanks again for the new goodies!

Still... That does mean we can retexture leaders now! :O, and that's by far an amazing advancement in all that.
At any rate, it does mean I could keep the 2D image, and an optional 3D skinned leaderscreen on future mods...

(it's quite odd to see a David depiction near a golden bull, though, hehe)

So, Ekmek, could we make custom models with Novator's efforts? I suppose we don't know yet how to add meshes and rig existing animations.

Indeed... BTW Ekmek, if you manage a nice Simon Bolivar I'd be interesting in knowing hehe...

So... Plans for the next version of Israel and New Beliefs, which might be here next week:

  • UA: Promised Land: Receive an special :c5citizen:citizen type called Rabbi on every city and on religious buildings. The Rabbi yields +3 :c5faith:Faith and works towards production of Great Prophets. Great Prophets increase combat strenght of nearby units and holy cities generate more religious pressure and get more rabbis.
  • UU: Maccabee: Stays the same, but if bought with faith it requires less faith.
  • UB: Yeshiva: Replaces the +Science from jungle with a +33% :c5science:Science and +10% :c5faith:Faith from jungle to desert, and receives a Rabbi specialist.

It is a different way of focusing the specialist bonus, which alsop will improve the ammount of Great Prophets making it less random. I have done some testing and the faith counter is a different counter than the Great Person one, so you'll end up having more Great Prophets. The idea is also that GPs should be less expended outside your territory, and instead may even be used as a way of enhancing your troops.

The list of buildings that will get the Rabbi is as follows: Shrine, Temple, and the faith-obtained buildings... (and of course, the yeshiva)

Changes in beliefs:
Synagogues: +2 :c5faith:Faith, +3 :c5culture:Culture, +1 :c5happy:Happiness

The synagogue is still stronger than the cathedral (in faith: 2 to 1). But the trait is something quite interesting :)

I don't know if you need suggestions or something, but I would like to see some medici/renaissance italy civ (doest matter the name) that works well with gold/culture/tourism (for a hypotetical BNW version). Are you considering doing something like this in a near future?

Well, religious buildings all have a total yield sum of 6 (with two exceptions, that have extra bonuses.:
  • The Mosque has +1 :c5happy:, +2 :c5culture:, +3 :c5faith:, summing 6.
  • The Pagoda has +2 :c5happy:, +2 :c5culture:, +2 :c5faith: ... So, 6.
  • The Monastery has 2 :c5culture:, +2 :c5faith:, which sums 4, but the monastery is cheaper and also provides potentially more yields as it has +1 :c5culture: and :c5faith:. per incense and wine worked by city
  • The cathedral has +1 :c5happy:, +3 :c5culture:, +1 :c5faith: . That sums the yields to 5, but the cathedral also has potentially +3 :c5culture:Culture more from the Artist Specialist, giving it a total yield of 8, plus great person production. (if it keeps it stats to BNW, it will have a yield of 5 but most likely a great works slot, which yield tourism I believe, so 6 anyway)

So, the synagogue should be fairly more balanced without the artist specialist now.

Not me per se, but Pouakai is making an Italy civ with Lorenzo di Medicci, he will receive suggestions gladly I believe :goodjob:

OK... I've been testing the new attribute, and is interesting, its very fun to use prophets as generals! Though it was also too much haha, a bit unbalanced...

So this is how it will be:

UA: Promised Land: Receive a Rabbi Citizen (+2 :c5faith:Faith and work towards Great Prophets) on every City and on Religious Buildings. Cities generates more Religious Pressure. Great Prophets increaseCombat Strenght of nearby units.

Also, I'm planning of changin the Music to this one:

Opinions?

While I'll miss the free Great Prophets, the new UA sounds more balanced. And the new music sounds more appropriate.

Yeah, and the new UA is also very fun and intrincate to try... And, a new version is here!

Just one thing: calling it the "United Kingdom of Israel" is quite strange, or at least it is to people in the UK.

I'm thinking, after I've had a chance to play with it, the Rabbi should only give 1 faith. 2 faith of the bat is better than the Celts get most of the time and +3 and +4 faith for the shrine and temple respectively is better than some unique faith buildings.

It's full name was the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah according to Wikipedia, so...

Agreed about the ammount of faith, and also I found a way of fixing an issue with setting a specialist with Faith... (or, to be fair, someone else found a way of fixing an issue and allows free use of his way)

So an update will come in shortly, perhaps tomorrow.

Well, we have an update now... However, I left the +2 Faith from Rabbis... Before the update, Rabbis didn't actually yield the Faith because of some crazy Firaxis issues, so I made the buildings directly yield the faith... Hence, you didn't lose nothing and got +2 faith on all of them...

Now, you DO have to use the specialists thanks to FramedArchitect. And because of that, you are risking extra production, culture or gold, as you have to assign the specialist. So it's more like choosing faith over other yields now. So... Test again and if its still rather unbalanced tell me please :goodjob: But yeah, new version!

I'm wondering why the Shrines and Temples give no faith now. (I actually didn't build one, it just didn't list faith as a yield, only Rabbi slots.)

d'oh... Yeah, when I updated I removed the extra yield, but in doing so I removed the actual yield too, because the Shrine and Temple are actually Unique Buildings strictly speaking hehe...

This afternoon I'll have an update fixing that.
