The Aztec people decided to settle in one spot and abandon the nomad life style in 4000 BC. There is a lake to the south which should allow us some growth potential and cattle to the north. There is also marble to the east which could probably be used to build great buildings. What shall be the first order of business? Let me know what you think. It seems that the defense of Tenochtitlan should be the top priority at the moment and a warrior has already been queued up. There is also an explorer primed to enter a mysterious village to the north. What should we research? My thoughts are animal husbandry, meditation, polytheism, or mining. The choices are yours my high priests.

I will try to keep this going fast so I will update tomorrow or actually this evening since it is 1:00 AM here. (US Pacific Time) I'll try to post screen pics but I'm not too sure I know what I'm doing in that regard.

You need mining to Bronze Working ASAP. Since your capital is doesn't have too much in terms of resources, I'd hope for a Bronze or something in the BFC. Plus, you can chop those forests to produce either an early attack force or settler. The good thing about the Aztecs is that they don't need resources for their UU, so unless you're on an island by yourself, an early rush is in order.

Aztec Empire: You make the Call

Our scout received 87 gold from the generous villagers to the north and also discovered valuable deposits of gems to the north and dyes to the northeast. Not long after discovering the luxury resources, our scout came into contact with another scout from Peter of the Russians. According to our scout, the Russians must live somewhere to the northeast.

After meeting Peter, our wisemen learned the art of mining which they have now set on discovering bronzeworking which they believe will be a far superior metal to what we currently are able to produce. Our scout also discovered another friendly village which gave our people 29 gold.

Finally, our first military unit, a warrior was built and fortified in Tenochtitlan. Work was started on a barracks to let our military train to be the best fighters in the land. A worker could have been started but there would not have been anything for him to do since we do not possess any tech for a worker to do anything until BW when they can chop.

Our scout found sheep and wine to the west and also a potential spot for a fishing city with fish, clams, and wine. Our wisemen discovered bronzeworking in 2920 BC and according to the wisemen, this land has an abundance of copper to make bronze. They claim this will allow us to build axemen and spearmen in the near future if we can somehow find a way to connect to the resource. There is a deposit of copper inside our current borders just south of Tenochtitlan. I have also adjusted our civics to allow for slavery. Now our slaves can be whipped into rushing production.

The barracks will be ready next turn but the city is still not quite a size 3 yet. My thoughts are to either build another warrior or scout until the city hits 3 and then start on a worker to hook up the copper.

What are your thoughts my high priests? Should we wait to build a worker or start the worker after the barracks is completed or is there another strategy to pursue? What should be the tech path? Should we continue on the mining path and work towards ironworking so that we can build our UU or start trying to take advantage of the resources we have in the cattle, bronze, and marble? Or should we pursue a different path entirely? It seems to me that the wheel is essential right now. Then after the wheel, animal husbandry and masonry. After masonry, maybe pottery for granaries if we are going to whip in the future and agriculture to farm around the lake, and then archery and ironworking.

worker for the marble>Settler>Orcale

Nuclear kid, if we go down that route we will need the worker but we will need to tech the wheel, masonry, and work toward priesthood aslo to get the tech to build the Oracle. Is this what you are advising? As of now, the only religous tech I have is mysticism. After getting the marble hooked up are we then building a warrior for escort and then a settler and should I chop the settler? Where should the settler go to found the next city? The spot I have my eye on is the gems spot up north. I'm concerned if we start down the path of trying to build the Oracle that soon without adequate protection we will have a tough time defending off the barbs. Thank you for the advise.

Oh and if we do get the Oracle, which free tech should we shoot for?

switch city 1 and city 2, and it'd be great :D

Aztec Empire: You make the Call

Our scout has reported back that there is an ithmus to the west that runs north and there are rice and dyes north of the ithsmus which ends in a peninsula.

In 2480 BC the wheel was discovered allowing our people to start construction of roads but it was not until 2160 BC that the first worker was completed. The worker got strarted on starting a road to the marble. The wismen reported that they had discovered masonry in 2040 BC allowing our worker to start a marble quarry which was completed in 1750 BC.

Unfortunately, the Aztec Empire encoutered its first casualty in 2000 BC as our scout was slain by lions in the jungles northeast of here. In 1900 BC I made the decision to expand and a settler was started. By 1675 BC animal husbandry had been discovered, allowing us to build a cattle ranch to the north. This should allow Tenochtitlan to grow faster. It was in 1425 BC that meditation was discovered by the priests and they have gotten underway starting a priesthood.

By 1400 BC the Aztec Empire had completed its first settler which was sent to a hill to the southwest where they founded the city of Teotihucan in 1325 BC. The governor of the city started the construction of an obelisk which should help spread our cutlure. In 1275 BC, a barbarian warrior was spotted to the southeast. By 1225 BC priesthood had been completed and the wisemen started to look for ways to allow for more productive cultivation methods by exploiting the southern lake. An axeman was completed and sent to defend the essential copper mine.

We sent off another scout to explore the northeast and maybe find where the fabled Russian people that were reported by the first scout long ago. It was in 980 BC that agriculture was discovered which would allow us to farm along the lake. Teotihucan copleted the obelisk in 860 BC and a the governor began construction of a barracks to train the warriors.

In 860 BC our scout has reported back with important information about the Russian people. Russia has settled around the dyes and gems. He also reports that there is insense north of Russia. This is grave news indeed. The gems will be a valuable asset on this land. We should be able to secure our own dyes to the west but the gems and future insense will be worth fighting for in the future especially if Russia is not generous in trading them to us.

So it is now 800 BC and pottery has been discovered, allowing our cities to construct granaries which will promote more growth. What should our cities focus building? Another settler is nearly completed at Tenochtilan with current orders to settle a fishing city to the west and in Teotihucan the barracks is almost ready. Do we start building granaries, workers, axemen, the Oracle, or do we continue to try and expand?

On the science front, pottery has just been discovered. What should our tech path be at this point? I am thinking that writing for open borders and a informative exploration of Russia is in order. We could also move toward iron working but having access to copper is making that less of a priority. Fishing also needs to researched for the fishing city. What are your suggestions my high priests? This where things stand in 800 BC.

In 720 BC the settler set off to found another city escorted by an axeman. Construction of the Oracle began shortly after the exodus. Our masons estimated that the wonder could be finished in ten turns.

By 680 BC the barracks was finished in Teotihuacan and a granary was started. The coastal fishing city of Tlatelolco was founded in 620 BC and work was started on an obelisk to expand the culture so that our future fishing boats could fish the deep seas. Our wisemen discovered a system of writing in 600 BC and a diplomat was sent to Peter in Russia. It was there that we learned from Peter himself that the Russians had already built a chariot that was pulled by strange, fast four legged animals called horses. We also found out that the Russians already possessed four cities including the capitol. Peter accepted the terms of an open borders treaty so our scout was let inside the exotic Russian borders where Moscow was discovered in 540 BC. The great capital city of Moscow has access to horses, corn and clams.

Back home another barbarian warrior was discovered to the southeast in 580 BC. The following turn, another warrior was discovered to the east. That year of 560 BC our valiant axemen who have been defending the copper mine were ordered to stop the barbarian threat as they had violated our borders. Our brave axemen easily defeated the pathetic warriors on the plains in front of Tenochtitlan. The Tenochtitlan axemen garrison was sent outside the gates to propel the last barbarian warriors from pillaging our valuable marble quarry and in 540 BC the barbarian threat was eliminated by the might of our axes.

Not long after the glorious battles the Oracle was finished in 520 BC. Our beautiful priestesses were given the knowlege of code of laws from the gods themselves as a prize for the beautiful wonder we had built to honor them.

As a result of the barbarian invasion and the discovery that Peter possessed horses, our weaponsmiths got to work constructing many spears and shields for a new spearman unit to protect Tenochtitlan. That same year in 500 BC, a new religion was founded in Teotihuacan called Confucianism as the gods themselves had wished it upon the chosen Aztec people. A chosen missionary claimed he was a messenger of the new Confucian faith given the responsibility from the gods themselves. The Confucian missionary sent word of the new true religion to the capital of Tenochtitlan and all the people had converted to the new faith by 500 BC.

In 460 BC the people of Tlatelolco discovered the ability to build fishing boats. What shall we try to discover now? It seems that it is time to research iron working to get access to the Jaguars. There is a lot of jungle and forest in Russia. We could also work toward monotheism and theology. Monarchy could be useful but our cities are not growing that quickly yet. We still do not have archery. Metal casting could be useful as well and there is always alphabet.

It also seems it is time to begin building at least one more worker and the military must be greatly expanded. Here are where things stand in 460 BC. What is your advise my high priests?

It was now 440 BC and more barbarian warriors were spotted to the southeast. It was becoming apparent that there must be some kind of settlement where they are coming from. I ordered our axemen to take care of the new barbarian threat. It was reported that in 420 BC our brave axemen stormed up a hill and defeated the warriors, killing every one of them and not taking any prisoners. Our axemen moved out after healing from the battle and discovered the barbarian city of Jute which had been about where we expected it would be to the southeast.

It was with great joy that we found out from Russian merchants that the Russian city of St. Petersburg had taken on the true faith of Confucianism in 300 BC and the following turn in 280 BC, the Russian emperor Peter had made Confucianism the state religion.

In 240 BC, there was another battle at the same hill southeast of Tenochtitlan where our axemen won a great victory years ago. The Jute barbarians tried a hopeless attack uphill and were utterly defeated. Our valiant axemen had no casualties and many slaves were brought back to Tenochtitlan.

We received word in 200 BC that the obelisk was finished in Tlatelolco, and the city started constructing work boats to fish the deep seas. I also ordered my smiths to start building as many axes as quickly as possible to increase our military strength and get ready for a possible attack of Russia.

By 1 AD, iron working was discovered which would allow us to use a better metal than bronze however our wisemen told me that our land did not possess any of the valuable metal. However, using obsidian rock, they had developed a weapon that would be deadly to our enemies and the new Jaguar units began to form.

In 20 AD, our scout still learning about Russia learned of a new civilization from Russian fisherman that had been blown way off course to the north. These fisherman claim that Americans live to the north but not much is known of these strange people. It is believed that Peter is aware of these people and sends secret envoys to them but it is only a rumor.

After finishing the axemen army in 60 AD, our Confucian priests asked for a temple to be built and I ordered the construction of a Confucian temple in the holy city of Teotihuacan. In 100 AD, we learned that there was a great scientist in Russia making new advances and that same year I ordered our new axemen army to march southeast and capture the Barbarian city of Jute.

In 180 AD, a great accomplishment had been made in Tenochtitlan. The first Jaguar unit was finished and it was such a marvel to see. Our enemies would not know what hit them when they saw this new weapon we had in store for them. I am told from my general that our Jaguars are especially adept in forest and jungle. After this momentous occasion, a Confucian temple was put under construction in Tenochtitlan. In that same year, I received word that our axemen were just outside the city of Jute and we also learned that there is an island to the north that has iron deposits.

In 200 AD, our axemen stormed the warriors garrisoning Jute. The Jute defenders were utterly defeated and most surrendered without a fight. The city of Jute now belonged to the Aztec Empire. Our axemen pillaged 61 gold from the inhabitants and this new city had access to more copper and stone. We got right to work gathering workers from the city to build roads, mines, and quarries. It also appears that Jute is the end of the continent as the eastern ocean has now become visible.

It was in 240 AD that some of our priests started conceiving of a blasphemous idea that there were multiple gods that governed many different things around us. They called it polytheism. This new idea is crazy and I see no reason why we should let it exist with our Confucian beliefs. Strange that it was the same year that the temple was finished in Teotihuacan. Teotihuacan is going to become a military city and I have ordered many Jaguars to be trained there. Not long after the first Confucian temple was finished, the second one was finished at Tenochtitlan in 280 AD. I ordered a library to be built so our wisemen can easily pursue new technologies.

The workboats were finally finished in Tlatelolco in 320 AD and the city started building a library. By 420 AD the Tenochtitlan library was finished and the following turn, 430 AD, Monotheism was discovered by our priests which has allowed us to have an organized religion. That same year another barbarian city was discovered to the south. The barbarian menace had not been defeated completely yet. Not long after discovering the new barbarian threat our axemen defended off a barbarian invasion east of Teotihuacan. This threat would have to be eliminated.

I received word that a great prophet had began spreading our faith in Tenochtitlan and he came to me asking to build a great shrine in Teotihacan to honor the holy city. This shrine would also gain our empire wealth from all of the Confucian pilgrims who would visit the shrine. So it was in 490 AD that the great Kong Miao was built in Teotihuacan. Confucian pilgrims from throughout the Aztec Empire and Russia came to marvel at the holy building and every year new believers flock to the holy city of Teotihuacan.

By 510 AD, we received word from a pilgrim that there was another great scientist in Moscow. The Russian people must be getting very advanced. There was also good news though as the southern barbarian city Harappan was captured by our axemen and 90 gold was pillaged from the city. Despite conquering Harappan, more barbarians began encroaching from the south and now these warriors were carrying axes. Our brave axemen that had conquered Harappan was outnumbered 2 to 1 by an axeman unit and a warrior unit. However, these axemen were able to defend off the attack in a heroic effort to save Harappan for the Aztec Empire in 600 AD.

Train/whip spears and jags and cut the road to the 2 other Russians cities so he can't build horses there. With 7-9 units u shoud be able to conquer the 2 smaller Russian cities.
If u possess alphapet u can demand techs for peace from Russia.
my 2 cents. :)
