Opening music / ingame sound is suddenly choppy.

Best way to describe this. It was normal before and suddenly now it's choppy. At times it sounds like it's an old record skipping a track only to return to the skip and proceed on. It's never done that before and it's only Civ V (all DLC's and up to date) that is having this issue. Has anyone had this before?

Current rig:
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz
RAM: 32.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. Z97X-Gaming 7 (SOCKET 0)
Graphics: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (EVGA) - ForceWare version: 372.54 - SLI Disabled
Storage: 1863GB Western Digital WDC WD20EZRZ-00Z5HB0 (SATA)
Optical Drives: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSB0
Audio: HTO STRIKER 7.1

As an update to this, I thought it might have been the NVIDIA GeForce Experience throwing the sound off but that's been disabled with no change. Sound still choppy / repeating. Only happens in Civ V, Civ BE (as do the rest of my games) works just fine. Oh, and my sound card drivers are up to date...

Any thoughts anyone? I've tried quite a few different solutions I gleaned from the internet but nothing is helping. The sound remains choppy / skippy and distorted. =(
