How civilizations are doing in real world now

When you're done, you (or someone with the graphics skills) should do a F9 demographics screen that converts this info to Civ format. First and last would be easy. The averages would require another bit of work on the material you're providing here, but wouldn't be terribly hard. How is our game of civ going?

I wouldn't know where to begin :)

Maybe someone else can.

It's defensive as long as it's politically inconvenient for the West to admit the alternative (in this case that a key ally is in violation of a law the West effectively imposed but now wishes it hadn't) - it's not an aircraft carrier in much the same way the Egyptian military takeover isn't a coup.

Yep, now the US is hoping that Japan increase its military budget and help them to contain China. Oh, how times change...

But it's nonetheless offensive to China, Korea, Russia and other Southeast Asian countries who remember Pacific war and Japanese war crimes there :D

@OP:
You should calculate some type of Civ-esque overall score for each civ.

I'm not at all strong at math :p

In Civ III, one's score was tracked on a histogram that looked very much like that.

How will you represent Iroquois, Shoshone, Maya, and Inca?
Guatemala can be the Maya, and Peru the Inca, I guess

Will like to see you do Indonesia, and Siam.

shoshone can be the republic of texas:)p)?

how do you know somebody didn't seriously screw up all of the calendars

anyhoo, with the spam over and done

which IRL civ do you guys think is closest to victory?

Cultural: France
Diplomatic: US
Domination: US
Science: US or China
Time: Everyone. The map won't change much by the year 2050 (okay, maybe it will, if somebody decides to conquer the world)

It may be, but frankly it's an out of date policy and an out of date concern. Japan was historically a highly militaristic society, but as you pointed out it now ranks below every other regional power in its military strength. Its two most likely adversaries have nuclear weapons, and so long as Japan doesn't renounce nuclear non-proliferation the balance of power is not going to shift in Japan's favour - nor is China the semi-medieval agrarian society with an underdeveloped military that it was in the 1930s.

As for the restriction, we don't restrict France from declaring war despite the fact that it doesn't have a history of playing nice with its European rivals. Somehow this hasn't resulted in a wave of French aggression towards the neighbouring powers to settle old grudges.

I don't know why there's a Maya=Guatemala fixation around here - the Maya occurred throughout the Yucatan Peninsula; most of their territory was in modern Mexico, but encompassed the entirety of Guatemala and Belize (Guatemala may claim Belize, but as far as the international community's concerned it's an independent country) as well and extending into Honduras.

Diplomatic: US
Domination: US

The way cultural victory's defined in BNW, America is certainly leading culturally - despite the name it doesn't reflect literal tourism. It's cultural influence on the rest of the world.

Moderator Action: The effort put in by the OP is appreciated, but please steer clear of discussion that has absolutely nothing to do with civilization, this being a Civ forum after all. We do have an off-topic forum and a world history forum available for that sort of discussion. This thread can remain here and open so long as the discussion maintains a relationship to Civ5 (e.g. not a discussion about Japan's constitution and politics).

Surely the Aztec, Inca, Maya, Iroquois and Shoshone should all be conquered? Since they have been and all. Byzantium too really.

The rest you could argue are continuities or had a sufficient portion of their population survive in order to say they have been liberated. :goodjob:

In Civ III, one's score was tracked on a histogram that looked very much like that.

That sounds awesome! The real thing is not... An attempt at quantifying history without using quantifiable data. It might as well say "Hoo i liek bestest" at the top. Ah history in the 30's...

It's very interesting.
What does it mean "no religion" ?
Does "no religion" is atheism ?

Atheism is a willful choice not to believe in gods. No religion just means that people in general aren't religious.

EDIT: Wow this thread had 4 pages, kill me.

Denmark should be fairly easy to make, same with Sweden and the Netherlands as well.

When you're done, could you maybe spam the forum with a 2nd thread, just to collect them all at as little space possible, maybe even alphabetically for easy access :D?

Just because you're not doing enough as it is atm !!!! :p

@newarkinvaders

How a mod warns you for feeling offended after such a short sighted post by someone who basicly says most of the people who dont believe are a bunch of immoral, murdering idiots is beyond me. And he even got away with it...

I felt the same as you after reading that post. If anything, he should have been warned for offending a butt load of people...
