Bowmen were good in vanilla, when they dominated until late medieval. But G&K brought comp bows which replaces them so quickly and now that early warfare has been nerfed in BNW, there is zero use for archer that has a little bit extra combat strength and has nothing that carries through promotion. I haven't fought single war in BNW before comp bows.

Upvoting Siege Towers again, that unit is great example of what early UU's should be, except it's bit overpowered.

Panzer 5 Since they made pillaging give +HP, this is actually a pretty damn nasty unit. Rushing to Armor isn't too hard, and with Germany, it's almost worth it. That extra movement point is essentially a free pillage, and lets the Panzer wreak havoc behind enemy lines. Plan for this by training up some knights/cavalry and you'll have monster armor. Those who say it "comes too late," ignore that warfare now "comes too late." Ideological warfare is a given now, and this is one of the best late-game units to wage it with. PLUS, it has great synergy with Order AND Autocracy. Build Kremiln and spam these or take Blitzkreig and annihilate the enemy's infrastructure. It's too early for the Panzer to die- there are still ten far inferior units on this list.

Dromon: It's actually fairly good and much better than the Quinquereme. It is an early ranged unit, so it can protect your trade routes, chase some barbs for experience and defend your land (as long as it's within 2 tiles from the sea). Also, they are good at taking some coastal cities. Prepare some Dromons and get some melee units (or Cataphracts) and take a capital. Extremely useful on Archi maps.

Hakka: Bad, overall. Not much better than a regular lancer, which is already a sucky unit. Sipahis are faster and wreak a havoc on enemy's lands, W. Hussars are killing machines. This one's the evil pony.

Kill off the Hakkapeliitta, it really is not very useful.

I prefer Longbow over CKN because they're much harder to kill.
 
Landsknechts already gone? It's a huge drop from the last GnK UU thread. I still like them...they can kill a lot of units and you don't need construction and machinery while going for education. Don't know why it's suddenly very bad, maybe because i strongly defended them a long time ago.

Norwegian Sky Infantry: Looks like a joke unit. A bunch of ski infantry marching across a desert? Also as a melee line unit I rarely get a chance to use it.


Jaguar Great early unit. I'd have voted for Atalists if they were still around, but this one is good too. Both are good for harassing enemies very early.
