Week 29 1899

The Mexican War

Guadalajara falls to Mexico
It seems the Mexican Army has a will to fight as they counter attack our forces and recapture Guadalajara. All British forces defending the city are destroyed and Mexican forces lead by Maxim MG Btln defend the city.

Ships of the Royal Navy Pacific Fleet shell the defending Mexican forces in Guadalajara.

Royal Marines move in to try and retake the city from Mexico
5/5 Royal Light Marinevs1/4 Maxim MG Btln=3/5 Marines
3/5 Royal Light Marinevs2/5 Light Cavalry=4/6 Marines
The city holds on and is still in Mexican hands!

At Ciudad de Mexico

The Royal Arillery conduct the largest artillery bombardment known to modern man to try to weaken the massive Mexican Army defending the city.
5 Mexican Rifleman units are defeated with heavy loss to the British Empire as the dead and wounded pile up around the city. With such heavy losses the commanding General of the Royal Forces in the area call a halt to the assault until reinforcements can be brought up to lend a hand.

Trouble in the Suez Canal
German merchant ships have been blocking free movement in the Suez Canal and Red Sea for the last 5 straight months. British forces and materials have not been able to move due to this situation.
The British Empire has allowed fee movement in this waterway and has asked all nations to not block it up. It seems the German Nation does not understand what we are asking of them or are trying to start a war with the British Empire.

Our first reaction was to sink all German ships in the Suez Canal/Red Sea but cooler heads prevailed and we ordered Royal Navy warships into the waters to escort the German merchant ships out of the area. We will be closing the water way until said ships are removed from the region.

It also brings up the problem with Spain being skipped.
There are Spanish ships stuck in the same tile in the Red Sea due to the turn being shipped. I would suggest someone play the turns instead of skipping them if possible.
Anthony is playing the Ottoman Empire which does not have much contact with Spain or possibly Russia, Germany or the Austrian player could play it until we find a another player. Or at least Tom can play the Spanish turns but we need to stop skipping the turns I think that is the worst possible thing.

I will be able to play tomorrow afternoon.

If I am able to set Spain back to AI (did not get around to verifying the functionality of the app unfortunately) It will not take effect until next turn because I'll be setting it from the Netherlands turn. I am open to having players take Spain, would agree with any mentioned above by Juriel.

I wouldn't be to hasty changing Spain to an AI unless your sure it can revert back to human. Rather than do that or even skipping the turn we can ask for a volunteer to "automate" Spain's units and city governors which when the turn is opened the following turn it will be at the "end turn" status. If no one wants to do this simple task I will do it. I have not even glanced at that side of the world, I have enough to view on my side of the planet

I can play Spain until we find new player, if everyone is OK with that. Spain's turn is right after Austria-Hungary, so it will help to keep up the pace of the game.

That makes sense since you do go after them and do not border them.

Umm and if the USA looks just South of Florida they would find out they border Spanish territory:mischief:

I appreciate the offers guys. The back to back turn with Austria would be convenient, However that puts Jarovid on both sides of France. If France is ok with it I'd support that option. It's true Spain and USA also share some proximity however it is less concentrated on one rival empire.

I will send this turn on and we will hopefully find a conclusion by next time around.
Sent turn 60.
The Dutch empire has rejected a demand of 77 gold made by the Boers. Boer republic declared war on the Netherlands. Argentina made a similar demand and backed down.
