Things That Defy Logic

It takes two turns, at least, to cross the Atlantic, one way. That means a round trip takes 4 years.

Pirates can't sell some of the goods they steal, if the colonists have had a party, and what they do sell they pay taxes on. "Avast, ye lubber. I be killin and pillagin, and rapin too, but I draws the line at cheatin on me taxes."

You are confusing a privateer with a pirate.

Another thing that defies logic:

I apparently sail from europe to the BOTTOM OF THE WORLD and hten sail up to the new world -- thus always starting me at the bottom of the map.

Hey, how many turns could I get to europe in if I didn't sail to the bottom of the world?

By the same token...

If you sail AROUND the New World and settle on the West Coast, you can get to Europe from the West Side as well. Which takes... 3 turns. Apparently it only takes 6 turns to circumnavigate the world, then.

Not so. In the game privateers look like pirates and will be attacked by anybody's navy. In fact, a privateer should sail under the flag of their sponsoring country, which is not how Civ4Col2 works. If a privateer was found to have Letters of Marque from both sides in a war, they were considered to be pirates and hanged, which happened from time to time.

The Wiki link you provided states that "privateering" against ships of a country you are not at war with is pretty much "piracy".

A Wagon "Train" is a unit too and transports 200 Tonns of stuff (600 Tonns on Marathon )
I think we already through this earlier in the thread.

I'd like to see what 200 tons of COTTON looks like, loaded onto _one ship_. :)

Very good point! Modern equipment can pack 40 pounds of cotton into 1 cubic foot. That means you would have 50 cubic feet of cotton to supply one ton... which would mean 200 tons takes up roughly 10,000 cubic feet. Now, the average Caravel could carry approximately 2,400 cubic feet of cargo, without displacing required provisions, sleeping quarters, etc. Assuming we are allowed to displace said provisions(after all, the sailors don't really need to eat, do they?) I imagine it to look like this:
Spoiler Hypothetical Caravel :

Dont forget something:

A dragoon "unit" its really an army... lets say of 50 mounted units because it takes 50 horses to train it (and this without thinking that "horses" resource is also a representation).

Hey, watch the Wells Fargo commercial, how many horses are pulling that stage coach? About 50.

Dragoons fought on foot, not from horseback. Horses were used merely for transport, to give them superior mobility over regular infantry.

erm, sorry but what? charge of the light brigade anybody? why do they get a +25% bonus against cannons then? i dont see the advantage in riding up to a line of cannons, getting off your horses and then running at them lol

Could cause some serious  and  among the enemy, leaving them in disorder and possible giving you a advantage :D

It wasn't until the late 19th century that some armies began to use cavalry as riding infantry. By the way, why doesn't there seem to be any entry about dragoons under "Units" in the Civilopedia?

Dragoon is a Profession. (I feel it's awkward too having the pedia split that way...)

Why is my only port in Europe the mother country . . . BUT . . . Scotty can beam the goods for 50% less to toher countries through the transporter hidden in the Warehouse Expansion ?

I think it's supposed to represent you selling your goods to private traders, who, though they take you to the cleaners, pay you at the dock.

But wouldn't it be quite strange that you could only sell goods to those private traders after building a bigger warehouse ?

It is strange that when converted natives learn a profession they also get some military skills. I mean you can't make soldiers/dragoons from converted natives but if you turn them into specialist then they have all knowledge to fight.
