They did a really great job on Kamehameha's clothes. I've been to Hawaii once, and all of the statues of him showed the same clothes that he has in-game.
How much do the leaders look like their RL counterparts?

It's the other way around. Kame's outfit is inspired, taken and based on the statues.

I get a kick out of looking for the painting and statue that influenced the leader screen. Most of them are quite accurate and I have found a lot of the inspirations for the leader screens.
