I opened tradition and just finished honour. I'v never played with honour and I'm having a great time. I am certainly learning a lot. I am just trying to press less "Next turn" and think longer about the consequences of my choices. I went for Attila first after he forward settled one me (note the ruins next to my far-right horses). That was turn 98. Late for all you folks, but pretty fast for me.
I took Osaka with CBs still and then Kyoto with Chu-Ko-Nus, by which point most of my ranged had double attack anyway- I am nor sure, but as China, should you select March instead and then upgrade to Chu-Ko-Nus?
Washington is wonderspamming (just as much as Alex is) but he has the wall and I think I need to eliminate his threat from my side of the continent first. I'm not sure I can win the game, but I will do my best. Current screenshot:
Personal notes, what I copied from LPs:
> More ruthless worker stealing
> went for 2 cities instead of 3, stops me from turtling
> try more passive warfare to avoid losing units all the time
> Use GG's for land stealing
> building roads preemptively to assist my troop movement (usually one of my biggest problems)
What I completely screwed up so far:
> I forgot that NC needs a tech...
> Once I researched philosophy, I forgot to build the NC...
> lost a few good units earlier on due to bad positioning
> I still don't understand ranged unit in-range-sight, I keep misjudging
I was unsure about scouting. I thought about walking past Alex' territory to meet the remaining civ's, but I worry that whilst that gives me trade options, it will just lead to the usual chain-DOWing and denunciations.
//Update
Washington fell t176. He had no military to speak of and no chance against my CKN army with logistics, march and now a few +1 ranged as well. Alex predictably denounced me. I have now sent my caravels around and discovered Attila and Caesar, now I am a bit in a tricky situation. Because my science is so low, I need to carry on warring. But Rome&Attila are oceans away. I might go for Greece, as he is unfriendly with the far-away bunch, should make me some friends.
I'm gonna sleep over it. Fun map.
