Fairy Tale Download and Info

Yeah. That's true. Producing units. The maps as they were, were no fun at all, because when three enemy nations declared war on me, they showed up with two or three superstacks each on three fronts and there was just no way that was going to be any fun at all.

I really think the most major problem of this mod is the army building. It might look impressive and fun with these super humongous stacks of units, but it ain't if you're fighting them on three fronts at once and have to defeat them one by one. There are things I will try out still to counter the stackbuilding, but in the meantime, I really think decreasing resources and limiting city growth is a good way of limiting stackbuilding as well.

What about adding some superb city defending units with a national limit of 3? Would make defense easier, though you can not spam such units to be unconquestable.

There is a unit like that called the Skirmisher, actually. The model is one of SaibotLieh's best. A hot chick with bow and arrows and dressed in a black cape. She can only be built att he Recruitment Centre. Also, the Queen unit takes a position of super city defender and she is best deployed to uncertain border regions.

One idea to limit city's growth is to play with happiness/unhappiness and healthy/unhealthy bonuses from buildings. So, even though the city has room to grow, unhappiness/unhealthiness will halt the growth to certain extend (though I've seen AI crazy enough to simply ignore unhealthy/unhappiness).

Hey LeSage,

Playing an MP game with my fiance right now and be are both noticing that the wells are not acting like a fresh water source. I had figured this would be addressed as this was a note when playing version 9. Did you change your mind about the Wells beging a fresh water source?

I am not sure if this is just really bad luck on my part, but with the multiplayer games my fiance and I are playing, I've been playing the Crystallin each time mainly because I want to use the Death Angel hero atleast once. However, each time I've started a game, I've always been completely penned in by forests with no open land to build early farms. Forests also seem to negative the commerce bonus you get from rivers which can make for a VERY slow start. I have started three games like this and it has been the same each time.

Meanwhile, my fiance has rotated from the Arcana, Elchers, and Thorhammir (sp?) and each time, she has had not just some open land with rivers, but flood plains as well for quick growth. I am really wondering if it is a huge dose of bad luck or if there is something in the mod that says the Crystallin need to be in the deep forest as a starting point.

Just curious is all.

Oh. The Water Well issue has been solved in my still unreleased patch. I'll release it right now, although there aren't many updates.

It really seems that you've been having hard luck with your starts as the Crystallin. On the random maps, there should be no extra problems for them added, and the usual Fairy Tale Scenario maps also give them a starting position which can be compared to the other nations'.

Hang on. I'll upload the patch right now... Here we are.

Thank you kindly. It's taken me nine months to create, so it better be cool ;)

I am currently playing Civ5, and oh boy, is there "room for improvement"! I am actually quite disappointed with the game and think much of it sucks, which for a modder, is a good feeling to be having! Fairy Tale 2 for Civ5 will be smashing!

Out of interest, what is it about Civ5 that you dislike? I was thinking of creating a fantasy-themed mod for Civ5 myself, so I'd be interested to hear. Personally, I can't stand the UI, but I've had no real complaints about the gameplay itself.

My list of dislikes about Civ5:
- The main screen is just way to confusing
- The tech tree is wierd and does not feel like the Civ4 at all (everybody start with the same tech)
- Leaders speaking their native tongue just don't make it any better. It sounds cool but hey, we did good with mute leaders in the previous games, didn't we?

Else the city-states are a maybe-maybe not good idea. I do not know exactly what to think yet. Some ideas for Fairy Tale city-states:
Estor Thorshammir (East Thorshammir, a dwarven colony that broke free, now a city state on the most eastern part of the Nordic Peninsuela)
Necromantian Weld (Founded by the few Necromancers left after the Principality slaughtered the rest of them inside their borders. Long time enemy, though far too week to do any harm, of the Principality)
City le Sage (The wise city... I think. No good in french, so some frenc speaking guy might find the translate a bit wierd. Founded by some wise guy)

Actually, I am very much ambivalent about Civ5. I think it is a lot of fun. I played it for 12 hours yesterday, and I wouldn't be doing that if it just ain't plain fun. The wargaming is great; I love the battles and units.

There are several things I don't like about it. The game map is really bad, for an example. They said it would look alive and real, but the fact is that it looks like plastic lego and it's really cluttered too. The Civilization I've built doesn't feel like something I've built myself with blood sweat and tears, since most of the buildings inside the cities are invisible on the map proper. A little reward for building that Market or Temple in the form of an actual Market or Temple showing up inside the city would have been a boost to feeling like you're actually part of it. The units are too small and camouflaged, making it really cluttered when you have a lot of units deployed on tiles with ugly trading camps (looking like medieval circuses or something) and other unsuitable crap. The tiles aren't animated. Not even the trees in the forests move in the wind. Don't get me started on the rivers.

I don't get the feeling that I'm creating a Civilization or a nation. I feel like I'm building an army and fighting endless battles, although that's fun as well. Ages of peace and prosperity often get boring, since this is not a game about creating a nation, but making war. This is a wargame. A lot of focus has been placed on warfare, and as things like religion and espionage (although these worked semi-badly in 4) were cut, it seems they cut peace out of the game as a whole.

I know I am judging Civ5 according to its great predecessor and that things will get better with time, mods and updates. I still kind of like the game though and I will indeed give it a chance by modding it too. It will be an excellent foundation for war mods; I can't wait to see a World War One mod for an example.

I hope the expasnion does something about diplomacy, such as Vassal states from Civ5. I also think religions should be added, though without the favorite religon system, so to make it even more unpredictable. It woudl have been fun if othetr nations also could give you tasks and quests too, such as maybe destroying a Babr Camp outside of their borders, asking for help during a war, asking for you to stop trade and all that. They said the diplomacy would be better, it got worse. However I agreen on the War-Game part. It is definiatly a good wargame which requires more strategy and planning... though it gets a bit confusing after a while when you have many units you should move to one side of you empire to the other side. I think it cold be an improvement to allow three units in the same tile within friendly borders, 2 in neutral (no player owning the land) and 1 in the territory belongin to other players.

I think it would have been a great idea if you could group units together under a Great General and mass-move them that way. I actually like the 1UPT though.

There should also be a good diplomacy overview. As it is now, there's not even a summary to see who is at war with who and you have no idea whether the other nations like you or not.

There are many improvements. I just liberated England again, having been occupied by Persia; and reinstalled Queen Elizabeth. I thought that was pretty awesome, but she didn't like me any more for it though, obviously, and her disposition towards me was exactly the same as before she was occupied by Persia. Sigh.

Oh well. I'm ranting.

Well... I guess that the improved warfare had to lower the focus on another aspect not to make it too confusing, though it really should be some more focus on the different advisors as in Civ4. Much easier to keep track on everything happening in your empire that way. I like the fact that money really matter now though, as you will be lost without them.

I just bought and installed Civ5 myself and to be honest I am already biased against it because you have to use Steam to play it; I dislike Steam because it forces me to disable my antivirus systems to play...I want to be able to play when I am not connected and Steam just makes it bad IMHO.

I am currently learning to play Elemental War of Magic; it uses the Impulse system which IMHO is far more user friendly (even with the annoying popup ads). It informs me of patches and does not require me to disable any software.

You can play through steam without being on the net, though this will disable the inbuilt mod cummunity. And I have to agree. I am no fan of Steam myself. It does kind of ruin part of my game experience.

Yeah, HighwayHoss, you can use Civ5 in offline mode as well. Being connected to Steam is only good when getting the updates. I already got one update to Civ5 automatically. I don't have to disable my antivirus or firewall either, so that's prolly in your firewall settings.

I am on the verge of winning my first game in Civ5. Due to a game bug I will be denied of a proper victory though. I have one other nation left on the map - Persia - but I can't declare war on them due to a bug that locks the 10-turn peacetreaty with Persia although surely a 100 turns have already passed since the treaty should have expired! I could easily have conquered Persia by now and won a proper Conquest Victory, so it's not a good first impression I am having.

On the upside, I wouldn't hae gotten to see the silly Giant Death Robot without this game bug. I tell you, it's really silly and unsuitable for a game about world history! It's laughable even. Lucky there's already a mod to take it out.

I have won a couple of games already... althoug they were only to get those achievemtents, so I played those on settler. It was however a bit exciting when I had only two hoplites near enough the territory of the ottomans to conquer the world before 350 bc as alexander. I was lucky when one of my hoplites survivded their warror attack and got a promotion which I used on full health. That made all the difference and their warrior was also wery hurt afterwords, so I conquered the world in 400 bc, two turns before the time limit ran out.

The Full Health promotion is a bit weird. I've used it to turn the tide of battle on several occasions when things have been looking very bleak. I think I'll cut it out of Fairy Tale 2 and see what happens.

BTW, I was able to win the game by Domination Victory now! I just let loose the Atomic Bomb on Persepolis and that cancelled all peace deals with that bugger. The Bomb is the only way to override that peace-deal-bug, as far as I know. Now the whole world lies trembling before the feet of the mighty Communist Russia! I love the Social Policies. It made me go for Communist Socialism straight away.
