I like your idea to move the Panzer IV earlier in the tech tree.

So the proposed scenario change could be resumed to :
1) Move up (earlier) the Pz IV in the tech tree and maybe adjust (slightly lower) some of its stats
2) Make the Pz III upgrade to Stugg III

Good solution. I second (or third?) that idea!

Raze city report - in my agme as teh Japs (with VP's, like I explained earlier) Marseille was razed. Intrestingly this was the only French mainland city not to be a VP location. Bordeaux was captured by the Italians, Lyon, Paris and Brest by the Germans.

Anotehr intresting thing - The Germans captured Gilbertra (which is a VP point in my game). It's week 3, 1940. Anyone else seen the Germans take it that early before?

Marseille was razed.

Hi ComradeDavo,

thank you for the report. This is no bad news, as there is no normal preplaced wonder in Marseille and the French don´t have the multiple wonder system.

Germany - v 1.9 - Sid - Week 10, 1943

The invasion of Australia has finally begun. Thanks to Japan's destruction of half of Africa I don't think it's possible to win a domination victory. Only New Zeeland and eastern Australia remains, and I have only control of 66% of the world area, but 98% of the world population. I'm just a few weeks away from conquering the last cities of my enemy so I might just as well go on.
I landed 6 Panthers in northwestern Australia, and thought that the game was over. I couldn't image that the British AI would dare to attack my Panthers, but it did. The Matildas destroyed two of my beautiful Panthers. Now I have to sit in Alice Springs and wait for reinforcements.
Having 2000 units to move is really boring, so I switched all city-production to wealth (perhaps I should have done this sooner), and fortified 90% of my units. I only need about 50 Panthers for the conquest of Australia.

Indeed!

Am I correct in thinking that 2.1, larger map version will start in 1941? Because that case Marseille will start in German hands anyway? (or is there going to be Vichy French?)

i don't think 2.1 is starting in 1941. its still the regular version with a bigger map

Ah ok thanks :)

Raze city report in my game as Japs - Wick was razed, it was a VP location as well!

edit - Turn after that the Italian city in Afric North west of Dijibuit was razed as well.

Week 23, 1941. I have been pummeling the axis for the last 10 turns or so. My front line in Europe now runs from Stettin-Berlin-Ruhr-Stuttgart to Milan-Venice in the south. In the east taken Nomonhan-Titshihar-Mukden and all of Korean peninsula plus Peking and Tientsin. Made peace to give my forces a chance to rest and for me to take out Yougoslavia which has built up a huge force of 58Inf!

I am glad to hear that armies will be eliminated in 2.0. As much as I like them (I have 15!), they are just too powerfull against the AI.

The Soviet militia is huge and makes defense for SU very easy, probably too easy for a competent human player. IF the AI would use this effectively it would make a big difference when playing Germany or Japan.

More soon..

Germany - v 1.9 - Sid - Week 20, 1943

It's over! I won a conquest victory after 194 hours, on turn 192 (1 turn takes 1 hour to play in average). Overall it has been a lot of fun, but the last few turns were boring and very anti-climactic. I should have called it a victory after my breakthrough in North America, since neither South America nor Australia proved to be much of a challenge.

Next time I play I'll probably give it a rest after I have taken Novosibirsk, although it was quite fun to invade North America, and I might do it again sometime. But I have spent far too much time on this lately, and I have to get back to work. Don't know when or if I'll have the time to play v 2.0.

One bug I discovered in the last week of the game was that destroyer flotillas have lethal land bombardment. I haven't tested this for myself since I have so few flotillas, but I saw the Japanese destroyer flotillas wipe out several land units.

I have restarted 2.0 and mobilized. After not playing for 10 days it is interesting how much of the mod/scenario you forget. I have decided to follow through on a long promised "read.me" file for new players. I will post something in the next week for discussion and for Rocoteh to consider adding to the download.

In any case I am playing Germany SID v. 2.0. It is now week 31 1940. I took Poland early and Copenhagen only after they declared war. Brussels and Amsterdam were taken also. I razed Amsterdam before I was aware of the new "No-raze" rule. I think that makes sense.

In any case the French are out of Europe including Corsica.

I sparred with the Swedes and Norwegian because I forgot to establish embassies so eventually I ruined my rep with the Swedes. Accordingly I have taken out the Swedes. Currently "at peace" with the Norwegians but that won't last because I won't give up my mine positions.

Also took the two mainland Greek cities since they were at war with the Italians.

Uboats rule most of the North Atlantic. At this point Americans are a bigger problem than the British but they come close enough for a few Uboats to sink them.

Focus for the last few months has been the Soviets who declared war about week 5 of 1940. Knocked them back, took two cities and the Japanese declared peace. Soviets would not leave the territory, I thretened and they declared war. So it went until this week when peace broke out again.

I have noticed this in the past but particularly in this game - the Soviets have a deep love for the three airbases between Lwow and Kiev. Even when in my territory they send 3-5 units each turn to occupy the airbases which allows the Luftwaffe to destroy them. On and on.

At this point I have taken Riga, Vilnius, Lubin, Minsk, Lwow, Odessa and Kiev. I was about to take Sevastopol when peace broke out.

In other theaters the Japanese have made good progress in China, in fact the Chinese have only one city left and the Communist Chinese three. Japanese have Hanoi and made contact with the British who have taken all of Thailand and also Kumming (obviously from the Japanese).

Japanese have Davao. British have Fakfak and Timor which I presume they took from the Japanese but nothing else new in the Pacific. No razing by anyone.

Japense/Soviets at standstill although it looks like Soviets are close at Toyohara.

Italians out of Africa - all to the British - no razing.

Biggest issue for me is tech. I just got Land 1940 and at SID level I am concerned with Allies ability to bring on more powerful Armor before I get there.

Why not increase the population of Foochow by a few points? Better that it be larger than it be razed :)

ComradeDavo,

Probably this problem can be solved with increased number of
culture points. Foochow has 0 culture points now.

Gave the first turn of the new version as Germany a try. I took Danzig, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Brussels and Copenhagen -- also a force of 30 men sitting outside Paris. I liked the Polish having a city somewhere else so they didn't just disappear.

Have the anti air battery city improvements been toned down any, Rocoteh? I'll leave them intact when I end the first turn and see what happens.

WVCivnut,

Its a long time since you reported anything from this playtest.
How did it turn out?

Britain v2.0- Sid Level
Week 42, 1939
Nothing much to report yet. Destroyed most of the German navy. Germany has conquered Poland Belgium and Netherlands as usual. So fighting occured in france. My airforce is holding up well against german bombers. I haven't been able to produce much more than a few infantries though. Also British science is very slow. I need more universities i guess. But that's gonna take time.
Japan has conquered Davao, razed foochow, and conquered Wuhan. A few American ships spotted in the Med. I am planning to carry this out as it happened in WWII. First I'll take care of Africa and the Japs in china, then I'll go for Sicily and up to Rome, and later I'll invade normandy. If the German AI attacks Russia, it'll help me a lot in my plan.

"what i don't understand is that many a times i too capture cities with population 1. but i always get the option of either razing it or setting up a new governor in it. why then, would the ai raze a 1-pop city?
And by the way i am pretty sure it was foochow" eaglefox

eaglefox,

Thank you for the report.

There is razing and there is auto-razing of cities with population 1.
A discussion on this problem will follow later.

I really looking forward to follow this playtest.
Probably it now will be harder to play Britain since a number of
British cities in Africa were removed in version 2.0.

Thank you and welcome back.

Hi again,

It is now turn 16, 1941. Since turn 5 I conducted a Russian blitz through Norway and Sweeden, knocking both of them out in a couple of turns. I rested my forces and two turns ago launched a pre-emptive strike into German held territory. In the last few turns, I have taken Tirana, Thessaloniki (GE occupied), Sofia, Bucharest and Konigsberg. I have taken modest losses in T34s and some Yak-1s. As it stands now I have;

17Arty
21Hvy Arty

79T34/76
24KV-1
7T-26(leftovers)
6Mot Inf (also leftovers)

3Para
3Flame
207Inf
756!Soviet Militia (boy does that wonder/training camp thing produce)

14Sturmovik
33Yak-1
5Pe-8 (love these)
33Flak
7Pe-2
1Mig-3

+other odds and ends

Facing this the Germans have

3Hvy+4reg Arty

15PzIIIg+2LtDiv

34SSInf, 34RegInf, 5Hung and Romanian Inf

1He-111+3Me-110+21Me-109+1Ju88+22Fw-190
22 88's

My production is high and the only area where the Germans are close to parity is in the air. We will see how long it takes me to overwhelm them and the Italians

DrNick,

Thank you for the report.

756 Militia units! I will have look the Soviet Wonder over.
This was important info for me.

With the huge amount of units you now control I do not think Germany-AI
can hold out for a long time.

Welcome back with more reports.

Hello Rocoteh,

there is a way to stop "1-population razing" (or in discussions better known as "autorazing"). Autorazing happens when the city is at low population and gathered low culture points (less than 10, so it can not expand its borders).

If you want to know more about it, please look in the forum Civ3-General discussions / Autorazing questions 5.2.2004.

Your "city protection wonders" generate no culture. That is one reason why autorazing happens ... and therefore I anounced in my last report, that I will add culture to the multiple generated wonders.

Best regards
Civinator /Blue Lion

Civinator,

Thank you for your comment.

I think someone stated that AI never autorazed cities with 12 or more
culture-points.
Also: Do you have a link to the thread you mention?
Anyway 10 or 12 culture points I think we can sum it up:

The multiple wonders will work 100% if there are also 10 (or 12)
culture points. Thus there should exist a 100% way to stop city-razing.

I call that a breakthrough!

Best Regards

Rocoteh

To the players of WW2-Global:

Please report which cities AI razes.
That will confirm whether the above said is correct or not.

Germany - v 1.9 - Sid - Week 35, 1942

The Blitzkrieg continues!
Cities taken since week 30: Culiacan, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Bismarck, Helena, Winnipeg, Port Nelson, San Diego, Los Angeles, Rosaria, Spokane, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Zesfontein, Grootfontein.
Seattle under siege. Mexico eliminated. I'm at war with Brazil. 30% of the Chilean army annihilated (only 100 divisions left). First Panthers produced. First Panther destroyed U.S. marine in Spokane. The same Panther was later destroyed in Winnipeg when it attacked a redlined Matilda. :(
The battle of Winnipeg was almost as costly as the battle of Boston. Lost 15 panzers (and one Panther), 15 SS infantry, 10 infantry and 3 artillery. The good news is that I destroyed 20 planes when I took Winnipeg. Canberra new British capital.
In Africa DAK has taken two British cities, but two attempts to take Salisbury has failed. I have brought in additional troops, and the defenses in Salisbury have been weakened, which opens for a third attack to be successful. However, the Japanese have appeared just north of the city, and I'm afraid they will destroy Salisbury before I have a chance to take it.
Nairobi, Dar-es-Saalam, Lilongwe and Lusaka razed by the Japanese. I have just made South Africa a top priority. I have to stop the Japanese from ruining the whole country. I wish I had some panzers there, but South Africa is currently out of reach for my transports, and the war with Brazil has made the South Atlantic hazardous to cross.
Pathetic display of the Japanese: one Yamato and two destroyer flotillas escorted a transport to Java, and from the transport exactly one (1) redlined marine attacked Surabaya. After it failed (naturally) the whole escort-fleet turned back. No wonder the stupid Japanese AI needs the help of my u-boats to hold the Allies back in Indonesia. Talk about waste. I'm surprised the AI has taken any islands at all.
The Axis controls 80% of world population, and 50% of world area. The end of the war draws near.

Hyperborean,

Thank you for the report.

I am surprised by the fact that US-AI still holds out.
It seems to have much more forces than one could think.

The Japanese AI massrazing of cities should not be possible in version 2.0.
I will remove the Destroyer-flotilla in version 2.1.

AI is very weak when it comes to large scale amphibious assault.
It is really a problem.

Thank you and welcome back.

I had a though - I remember in alderick's WW2 Europe scenario he gave the Germans a couple of transports off Venice - this was (if they didn't get sunk of course) to enable (and engourage the AI) them to get troops into North Africa. Perhaps that could be tried for this scenario?

ComradeDavo,

Yes, some solution should be found to reflect the German
forces in North Africa.
