Day 2

Immaculate

Today's foraging is not so good – it seems you may have to look further afield for fresh pickings, but on this occasion you are cautious of wandering too far. By mid-day, you get to work building yourself a new home. Dragging around piles of cut bamboo, hammering them into place with the blunt end of your axe, tying pieces together with strands of vines and plant stems. As night falls, your dwelling is complete! You could do with a mattress of some kind, but you still have a rather comfortable night's sleep, sheltered from most of the biting bugs outside.

You awake with 5AP (+1 well rested, +1 Energetic Roll). However, this morning you are somewhat alarmed to find there is a giant tiger outside, scent marking the walls of your abode in a relaxed manner. Perhaps it will move on soon; however, you have yet to venture outdoors.

Arrow Gamer

Awaking hungry and frustrated from the previous day, you set out determined to hunt yourself some meat. This time you target a flock of goats roaming the western hills. Stalking a target, you throw your spear and have a near-miss. But as you go to collect your spear and try again with the hunt, a sabre-tooth lion comes out of nowhere and delivers a crushing bite to the back of your head, its sabres instantly piercing your skull. It seems you crossed into a rival hunter's domain, and luck is not on your side this time. You at least have the mercy that there is not enough time to feel any pain, before you find yourself floating free of your mortal shell.

You have become a Ghost.

Omega124

On this day, you set out to hunt some larger game. Luck is with you on the hunt. You are able to stalk and bring down a large, elderly deer with a strong throw of your spear; you have suddenly got yourself a huge chunk of meat, and hides. You now realise your spearpoint is inadequate; you will need some Stone Tools to make the most of this new resource, especially to craft yourself some proper Clothing. You make yourself cutting tools from nearby rocks, but by now night is falling, and you cannot linger, as you sense wolves and bears will be attracted to the kill. You simply drape yourself with a portion of hide, and take a portion of meat away to cook by your campfire.

You eat well, and rest more comfortably than last night, thanks to a blanket of hide. No creatures bother you in the night, though it seems they were busy devouring all that was left of your kill.

As day dawns again, you have 4AP (+1 well fed and quite well rested).

Merciary

By mid-day, you have yourself a stone-pointed spear, and are on the hunt for deer. Luck is with you, as you are able to stalk through a forest meadow and bring one down with a well-placed throw. With your stone tools at the ready, you get straight to work cutting meat and hides from the kill. But by now night is falling; you find a tree to rest in as you chew on some raw venison. In the darkness, you hear wolves squabbling over the remains of your kill. For you though, raw meat is tough to stomach. At least the deer hide is keeping the worst of the cold wind off your body.

You awake with 3AP.

Nintz

On this day, you much better luck foraging. Your forager instincts have kicked in, and you are able to get your hands on some delicious raw vegetables and herbs, some of which you take home to roast by the fire you have built at the entrance to the nearby cave. You have seen at least one tiger stalking nearby, but on this occasion it/they seem more interested in stalking deer than going after skinny hominids.

Your hunger is soothed, but you are not yet feeling energetic. At least, the fire keeps the cave comparatively warm, as you lay down for a good rest. The wild cat reappears as night falls, sharing the fire with you. Away in the distance, you see what looks like smoke rising behind the pine forest in the north-west. You awake with 3AP.

Talonschild

On this fateful morning, with limbs aching from the previous day's hunt, you set out to get your revenge on those elusive goats. With your bad ankle, you are forced to use a stealthy approach, hugging the land as you approach your quarry. However, you pass close to a certain cave, and have the misfortune of disturbing the den of a ferocious giant black bear; a creature with a dire temper and a deathly stare in its eyes. Instantly, you know this will be a fight to the death.

Time seems to slow down. It is all over in seconds, though it seems like hours. You land but one strong blow on the foe, driving your axe deep into its neck. Then you lose your grip, and are powerless to prevent those massive claws from shredding your arms, face and neck; it is more than your hardy body can endure. You crumple and fall like a blade of grass. A merciful, blissful painlessness descends as you begin to be disembowelled. You content yourself with your final, mortal thought, that you may have landed a mortal blow on the foe in return.

You now join your sisters in the ethereal plane. You have become a Ghost.

Alex994

In the morning, you set out to investigate the sea lion colony. These are in fact rather large and intimidating beasts. But they take little notice of you. You are able to find some tasty shellfish and crustaceans as you wander around.

This seems to be a large bay, bounded by tall cliffs in the south. A cold, salty breeze chills your skin, but the scene is beautiful to your eyes. Large dolphin-like creatures are riding the waves close to shore. The water extends as far as you can see into the west. But very large, very distant mountains seem to be rising out of the horizon beyond.

You return to your starting point, and build a fire in the shelter of the trees. You are warmed up by the time night falls. But you stay awake into the night, crafting yourself some tools by the light of the fire. A curious fox circles around as you work, not getting too close. You finally doze off for a short while before the sun crashes over the eastern horizon once again. You have 3AP, but feel that you will need a good rest at the end of this day.

tuxedohamm

You begin the morning with meditation and prayer, and it seems to serve you well. You receive a vision for the lay of the land; hilly terrain to the south and east, cold snow to the north, and lakes and swamps to the west. The land offers up fruit, seeds and shellfish as you explore southwards. You are wary of bears nearby, but note that even they seem to keep their distance from the feisty giant geese. After the afternoon's wanderings, you find a sheltered spot in the trees to sleep, and you feel some kind of presence watching over you. The night is bitterly cold however, and you feel it draining your strength.

You awake with 3AP. You sense another human close by.

Lord of Elves

You have a rather poor morning's foraging. You eat a few seeds and berries to keep you going. You are on alert for predators and have to gather pace several times as you see stalking shapes on the horizon. Later in the day, you make yourself a fine stone axe. The sun beats down on you as you search for rocks and twigs. You then settle down to rest in the branches of a tree. The night is refreshingly cool, but full of biting insects.

You awake with 3AP. You are rather hungry, and itchy, and have a touch of sunburn from the previous day, all of which is testing your hardy nature.

North King

In the morning, before the sun is at its strongest, you venture to a group of cactus you have seen not far away. Clawing at them with your bare hands, you take in some water and refreshing cactus pulp, but you also gain painfully sliced and pincushioned fingers. You retreat to the shade of some rocks as the sun reaches its peak in the sky, where you find yourself drawing symbols on the rock with blood and sweat from your fingers. In the cool of the evening, you set out to explore in a random direction, which turns out to be westwards.

You find a way down from the hot plateau, entering a dry plain. Haze and mirage clear from the horizon; you see green plains to the north, hills and tropical forest to the south and west. You stay clear of a couple of lions as they have a stand-off with a large buffalo-like creature. You keep going as far as you can through the cool night, being frightened by the noise of hunters on the prowl in the darkness, before finally collapsing at the base of a small tree.

Before you can recover your strength, day dawns and a swarm of migratory parrots descend on the area, squawking loudly and mercilessly into your eardrums. You are rather hungry and exhausted. You have 2AP (-1 tiredness and hunger).

Patchy

You spend all morning and mid-day crafting yourself a sling, with success, though working through the mid-day heat is rather exhausting. Thus armed, you venture into the southern jungle to hunt yourself some dinner.

Things take an unexpected turn, however; it is not long before you are ambushed by a truly monstrous giant snake falling from above - a constrictor, that bites into your shoulder and wraps itself around you, attempting to crush and suffocate you. Fortunately for you – very fortunately - its initial strike is somewhat awkward, as it seems this snake is not at its best, or not used to hunting hominids. Your limbs are free to fight back, and your hardy body ultimately proves a match for this attacker. Although wounded, you end up breaking the snake's neck, freeing your body, and earning yourself some raw snake meat, and a snake skin belt.

As night falls, the jungle seems an ever more unwelcoming place. Your body is badly bruised and you ache all over. You return to the plains to rest and recover. You awake with 3AP (-1 injury, +1 Energetic roll).

Angst

In the morning, you craft yourself an artistic set of stone tools using some colourful stone. These tools make the afternoon's foraging somewhat easier. Mushrooms form a large part of your diet for today, and while this is filling, something about them seems to upset you. A sense of anxiety grips you as night begins to fall, as even the giant geese by the river seem to be stalking you. Much of the night is spent with visions of a darkened wilderness full of nightmarish beasts, screeching with demonic fury.

Spoiler Mushroom Trip :
But, the terror passes. A sense of calm descends. You see a globe spinning beneath you, the entire world; you see visions of other places, of strange and wonderful creatures. You see visions of other people, and a myriad of wonderful and terrifying experiences that may yet come to pass. And you know that whatever happens, all is well. The Great Light lies beyond, ever loving and welcoming. You know that your True Self shall never be lost, nor abandoned, but can only ever grow from its experiences.

You awake on a hill, on the other side of the river, shivering from a night exposed in the cold, with no recollection of how you made it here. You have 2AP (-1 cold, tiredness and mushroom hangover).

Milarqui

Morning is spent crafting yourself a stone axe - with giant beasts wandering nearby, you are glad of some protection. Your afternoon of foraging is somewhat successful; you have eaten enough seeds, fruit and grubs to hold off hunger for a day. You spend the night in a tree, having wandered a little to the south. The night is surprisingly cold however, with a bitter wind driving down from the north.

You awake with 3AP. From your new position, a plateau in the south and the lonely mountain in the north are the only landmarks of note. This seems to be rather flat country, with broken clumps of trees standing amidst rolling fields of grass and flowers.

Optical

Grabbing a branch, you set about attempting to bludgeon some rabbits to death. But these rabbits are used to being chased by foxes and wolves, and they have little trouble outrunning you. Frustrated, you stumble upon some seeds and mushrooms that hardly fill your stomach. The cold air is rapidly draining your strength. You are able to light a substantial fire, and then rest by the flames as night falls. Despite the sounds of wolves, and other more frightening things echoing through the night's forest, you are left in peace by the fire. In fact, you think you see smoke rising from somewhere else in the south-east.

Spoiler Some Inspiration :
As you slumber, you have the inspiration of how to make a small trap to snare small rabbit-sized animals, using little more than twigs and 1AP.

Thanks to your hardy nature, you have 3AP for the next day, but you remain hungry. And as you wake and stretch, you also note a rather large looking bear moving directly towards you...

Lord_Herobrine

Descending from the plateau, you craft yourself a spear and enjoy an afternoon's fishing, finding yourself a sheltered spot by the lake. Today at least, your spear aims true and you fill your belly with raw fish. But as you look for a nice tree to settle in for the night, you run into a foraging dire-boar, which seems to take offence at your presence. Before you can react, it charges!

You manage to hold it at bay with your spear, and it soon retreats. It is all over in a flash. But with the adrenaline pumping, it is a few moments before you realise that, somehow, you have taken some nasty wounds to your legs. You are hardy, and able to shrug off the pain, yet the night passes in some discomfort.

You awake with 3AP. With your wounded legs, you cannot move anywhere in a hurry, and it will take 2AP to walk as far as the horizon.

Seon

You spend the morning crafting a spear, keeping it at the ready as you spend the afternoon crafting some linen from the tall grass. You are rather pleased with your handiwork, however, it takes a long time and you do not get an opportunity to rest. Tired from a day working under the hot sun, you nonetheless set out for the nights hunting – you have determined to get yourself some meat from the sealion-like creatures lining the northwest shore.

With a near-full moon overhead, you have enough light to plan your attack. You single out an isolated target, however, you are disheartened as you approach. These blubbery creatures are at least twice your size, and perhaps ten times your weight. But determination drives you. You attack, driving your spear with as much force as you can muster into your prey, breaking it in the process, and... It seems a little annoyed. It protests loudly, but it is certainly not dead. With its massive bulk and sharp teeth, you have little choice but to retreat.

As dawn breaks, you are disarmed, hungry, tired, sunburnt, and find yourself exposed out on the plain; you have the sinking feeling that you are now being hunted. You have 2AP (-1 hunger and tiredness).

Newcomers

theDright

You can see an epic mountain range all across the northwest and west, over the water. The nearby river is very wide at its mouth, but you think you can see a shallow ford. Plains and plateaus stretch away into the east. It is warm, but occasionally chilled by a sharp breeze from the west.

Vertinari118

You are in a warm, dusty floodplain. Haze obscures the horizon, but you can see hills stretching away into the north. You are instantly on your guard, for you feel that violent death has recently struck nearby.

J.K. Stockholme

You are on a hill, surrounded by more hills on three sides. A single large mountain looms in the east. To the west, plains seems to stretch to infinity. It is comfortably mild.

Now – Day 3 Begins

Yes I have added 3 more players, and have skipped moreepicthanyou this time in favour of J.K. Stockholme. Apologies if I am a terrible person for that!

* You can drape linen/hides on yourself, and carry them around, but this is somewhat awkward. The raw fabric is good for sleeping on, but it would be better to craft yourself some Clothes for better protection from the elements during the day, keeping out insects and stinging plants etc etc.

* Darker skin will resist the sun near the equator, and is generally tougher ; lighter skin is a health benefit if the sun is not too strong.

This did not actually take too long to update. I did some graphics yesterday, but it was pretty much a one-night job. Thus I am hopeful that things will not get out of hand, especially with the fatalities this turn:

Apologies to those who died! But again, certain other people really lucked out and managed to survive. I am still deciding if our poor Ghosts should be bumped some way up the 'waiting list' for re-incarnation – any thoughts on that?

And YOU CAN NOW CHANGE ONE OF YOUR SPECIAL TRAITS. I will shortly update that part of the rules in the OP with expanded trait options. Or maybe tomorrow. You are also welcome to suggest traits that you think should be in the game. And yes, they will be acquirable over time, and teachable to friends and family!

Please feel free to comment with ideas, thoughts, questions and suggestions, as well as orders for Day 3.

:salute:

Fourth time is not.

You're not my boss.

Edit: Squeal ninja'updated.

The one once known as a human, memory fading fast, is fascinated by the somehow important markings on this stone. They remind it of a past distant and well-lit.

Imbue some mana or spirit-powers on the blood-markings and follow its creator, North King.

SO AWESOME.

I guess i will have some human company if the tiger doesn't eat me.

Seon- you better do something... you are not in a good spot at all.

EDIT: I hereby name my hut and immediately surrounding region, "Pandaholme"

EDIT2: Damn tiger- its scaring away the pandas.

EDIT3: Is there enough bamboo leaves, twigs and small shoots left over from constructing my hut that i could weave a mattress inside the hut (while i wait for the tiger to move on for a bit

EDIT4: Any chance you can track our stats (basically traits and gear) in post #3? Or are you tracking them on a slip of paper tacked to your wall?

Sporadic favouritism is a virtue of any mod. Thanks for the bump daft (I assume for gender reasons?).

EDIT: could I request extra vision for being on a hill?

OOC: No prizes for guessing that 'fire in the southeast' is

Does anybody know if bears can climb trees?

Bears are well known for their ability to climb trees. It's a better question to ask what bears can't climb trees.

I can't really imagine why someone wouldn't take Energetic, the chance of +1 actions is OP at this stage of the game.

Bears are well known for their ability to climb trees. It's a better question to ask what bears can't climb trees.

Bears SHOOT up trees. it's kind of scary, actually... you don't expect them to be that good at it.

Also: WOO! 2 away!

Mostly because why would I care?

Says the person who is losing AP for being tired and hungry.

The game is not about winning, friend.
