I distinctly remember hearing/reading somewhere that two friendly units will be able to swap places on the battlefield in precisely those situations described by sgrig.
Oh, and this my first post in, gee, I don't know, at least a couple years. Civ 5 has brought me out of the woodwork. So, hello again.
