Guess what the next civ to be revealed will be!

From the looks of the picture, I'd say a South Asian civ. Probably Vietnam or Indonesia. Gajah Mada and the Majapahit would seem likely, but like Louis said, he's a little too overweight to fit with the silhouette in the picture.

They could have combined Raden and Mada for a super Indonesian leader. Mada's style with Raden's body.

I'm thinking that's possible. Because Raden and Haram, the two other possible leaders, traditionally wear crowns. The guy in the image has no crown. But he's also too lean to be Gajah Mada.

That's why I'm not ready to announce to the streets the new civ is Indonesia (even if it's almost certain) because from my knowledge of the leaders there is nothing 100% consistent with how they typically looked like

Yeah, now that the excitement has worn down, I'm just a tad hesitant to declare Indonesia all but confirmed. While I do think it's 99% in, there's always the possibility that Vietnam, Khmer, Burma, or heck even the Tamil or Chola are what we have hree.

To me, it's the building in the background that strikes me as the most Indonesian (someone else posted a pic, but I forget who). For example, I had considered suggesting Pagan (Burma/Myanmar), but that temple complex would almost certainly be in the background.

I agree with Ahmad Al-Mansur, but I think it'll be the other guy with better abs for Indonesia.

I agree with Ahmad Al-Mansur, but I think it'll be the other guy with better abs for Indonesia.

Given the building and the gold rings, I'm pretty well convinced it's Indonesia or some variant of that. I'm far less convinced of Vietnam than in the past.

It can be anybody from Southeast Asia (all you need to do is throw out a potential lookalike. Only one person has done that so far with the Chola theory). The only thing we know 100% is that the silhouette is SE Asian

Frankly I could see any SE Asian civ. I don't think the building is as clear-cut as people make it out to be (and its shape could fit several SE Asian cultures anyways), and frankly the hairstyle and head gear isn't clear enough that we could definitely say it's Indonesia. While some have posted good comparisons with depictions of historical Indonesian leaders like Gajah Mada, I could see other SE Asian leaders having that sort of look, including ones from Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma, etc.

Heck, I could even see the hat as Chinese - some historical Chinese headgear could fit the silhouette reasonably.

I'm placing my bets on Indonesia, of course, but until we get final confirmation tomorrow...

Here's a Chinese-style hat with the same "elf" ears thingy going on:

Obviously this new civ isn't Chinese, and the hat isn't a 100% match with the hint we have, but I could see how something similar would turn out to be a Vietnamese leader. The problem with looking for earlier Vietnamese leaders is that they tend to be depicted anachronistically in full Chinese-style clothing, rather than the blend of SOutheast Asian and Chinese styles they would be having.

And of course, just for the record, I'm still betting on Indonesia, but I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

The image really matches Mada and Raden the most. For my Italian civ loving self I would be happy if it did turn out to be Vietnamese (and sad for Seancolorado)

Nobody is talking about the other SE Asian leaders because most of us have been betting on Indonesia/Vietnam for so long it's been hard to look at other possibilities. :lol:

And nobody takes the Chola/Tamil suggestion that seriously because the India blob civ has been around forever.

Yeah, Seancolorado would be really sad.

All we know is that we have scored one victory for Southeast Asia in general, for all of us wanting a Southeast Asian civ. It's just that some of us will come out bittersweet. :lol:

Lol, I appreciate your potential future condolences.

But does it really? Because Raden wears a crown. And Mada is fat. The image matches neither of these typical depictions.

The depiction doesn't have to be 100% accurate - remember how Gustav Adolphus looks more like an earlier Swedish king than how he actually looked like?

That's one big reason why I'm not betting 100% on Indonesia yet. Given the fact that I doubt any of the devs are specialists on SE Asia, there's always the possibility they could mix up southeast Asian styles

Haha. Fat Mada. There was an image posted in the first page of the this thread that looks almost exactly like Raden. I am also positive they would probably change his physical appearance since he wore an outfit that made him almost shirtless. It would be kind awkward to see him on that leader screen.
