With everybody talking about new stuff within the expansion, I read somewhere that the internet is a new tech that gives a culture bonus.

Is that it?

There is only 1 effect in Internet in the tech tree. If i were to hazard a guess, the effect is probably increased tourism output given that the Internet encourages globalisation and culture intermixing. It is pretty much an end-game tech and would provide the final push for a cultural victory if the player has not won yet
 
It probably unlocks the ability to post poorly spelt angry comments at other players, forcing them to engage in long, involved debates about trivial matters.
 
upon researching the internet, another civ is introduced into your game and it may or may not be venice but you have to look at circumstantial evidence in order to speculate

Kinda strange computers isn't a required tech to get internet.

I really hope this isn't the finalized tech tree.

I'd guess they didn't want the endgame tech that helps cultural victory to require a late tech on the military side of the tree.
 
I'm kinda glad they made an internet tech. The internet is one of the most world changing inventions in all of human histroy, it should be in the game just for that reason.

Besides, the internet is the reason why the information age is called the information age.

So currently if you personally don't know how to manufacture a computer can you personally get on the internet?

Computers Tech doesn't mean that your Civilization actually invents computers at that point in time. They could be manufactured by another civ, imported to yours and voila, you're on the internet.

Perhaps some college student in his attempts to prove Venice is to be the next Civ find the internet part of his invention more important than the actual computer he creates to view it on? :D

Unlikely, but possible. :confused:

I laughed so hard at this :lol:

I don't like that internet doesn't require a computer, but if it is the tech that helps culture, then it makes sense for it to be up there and not down with the war techs
