"Shadow" schedule

I just noticed the banner at the top of the schedule. It seems to be using the old AC icon. Does that mean you are going back to old AC display, instead of having it listed as if it were a player? Or it it just an anachronism? If you did change it I guess it was very recently, after the screenshots were made.

The screenshots appear to show the current counter in the bottom right hand corner just above the scores of the races

My only outrage is the removal of the Lurchip workshops. I hope the only reason that they've been removed is for a better system, otherwise you've just took out a part of their strength.

I really like the idea of retaining the Orc, Elf and Dwarf slaying promotions as something only doled out as an event to units that defeat other units of that type.

Maybe you should only get the orc slaying promotion if you kill a barbarian hero - e.g. Orthus, etc.

id like to see arquebusiers as a UU for crossbows for Luchuirp and Khazad.

i like champions as a name, just need something for axemen too for it to be complete, like fighter. then itd be:
Warrior to Fighter to Champion

with that system it would be nice to make Monks a UU for champions for Elohim. currently monks are too strong, early, but also annoying in that they have nothing reasonable that can upgrade to them (devout require a tech you normally get later) and i cant remember if they have anything good to upgrade to. they wouldn't need weapons promos, and being disciples would make use of the spiritual trait (possibly do so for fighters and warriors too). maybe also lower movement from 2 to 1 (so they're 2 moves still from spiritual).

That was some good culling.

I kind of liked the Defenders --> Flurry and Melee --> Shield wall routes though. They added some much needed flexibility if you wanted to specialise in one part of the tech tree. Without them, does everyone just research everything?

Without them, does everyone just research everything?

More likely everyone still only researches the Melee/Metal line or Adepts.

1. Removing Flurry
Recall the huge discussions about how 'useless' the Horse and Boat unit lines are, and you'll see that the exact same issues apply to the Archer line. At least the Crossbow line contains useful techs (engineering, machines). Now I'm not saying that adding the Flurry back in is what's needed, but honestly even the Elves + 1 STR doesn't make Archery units that much more attractive over Melee or Recon lines and they still have Flurries.

2. Patriarch
I really liked this as an 'flavor of the world' idea, but found the implementation to be a complication. My main problem with the previous mechanic was it wasn't obvious when you could 'Patriarch' a unit, and the need for the user to cast the spell made it confusing to newer users. The 'Call Holy War' spell made even more confusion, and that can gladly go.

I'd encourage you to consider keeping the promotion and moving the mechanic to a Global Event.

Gaining the Patriarch promotion grants +1 (typed) STR (Type depends on religion?), and the Free Promotion promotion.

Event: Ascension by Acclaim
Timing: Common, Triggered separately for each religion.
Requirements: [Religion] must at least X% spread across the Civs.
Triggering [Civ] must have a High Priest of [Religion] unit of at least level 6.
No other High Priest of [Religion] with the Patriarch promotion can exist
Text: "Popular acclaim demands that the High Priest of [Civ] be recognized as the Patriarch of [Religion]. The other people's of the world will be watching your actions closely."
Choices:
1. "Use [Civ's] influence to secure the Patriarch (Costs [Max(5% Treasury, 100)] gold)"
Result: -X gold, Priest gain Patriarch Promotion. -2 Diplomacy with all other Civs for 20 turns, +1 Happy for 5 turns.
Global Text: "At [Leader's Name] urging a new Patriarch of [Religion] has been named in [Civ]."
2. "Leave religious affairs to the pious"
Result: 50% chance of Patriarch promotion, +25% if you also have the holy city.
Global Text: "The people of the world rejoice as the Patriarch of [Religion] has been discovered in [Civ]" or no message if promotion was not granted
3. "Such a religious figure would upset the balance of power"
Result: No Patriarch promotion, +2 Diplomacy with all other Civs for 20 turns.
Global Text: "You can thank [Leader] of [Civ] for insuring that no Patriarch of [Religion] will interfere in world affairs"

Further Events to remove the promotion or shift it between Civ's follow naturally.
3. Golems
I'm not at home to check, and the wiki is down, but isn't the Nullstone Golem the Shield Wall UU? I remember liking the Arcane Golem, but now I'm confused. I would be concerned with how many National t4 units the lurchip have access to compared to the other civs (The other Civ's kept the UU's even if the UnitClass was removed).
Also, why lose the Copper Golem (Maceman UU) but keep the less useful Gargoyle UU (pikeman UU)? Seem's like a conspiracy in Golem town.
The Golem customization building were a neat flavor, and I'd love to see that flavor retained in some simpler way. Since I'd assume the Wood Golem now requires either Forges or Training Yards (previously Golem Workshop), a Unique build on that Building class would be nice, perhaps a targetted global spell (al la Secrets of Sarona) to grant all Golems in the stack a customization promotion?

Obviously, I'm guessing at what the additions but I think that Flavor should be preserved even if the mechanic changes.

Copper golem wasnt a maceman uu (thats the iron golem), in fact it wasnt a UU of any sort. It was a golem that all civs can build, which in my mind robs the luchuirp of some of their flavor.

I reiterate the "I'm confused".

Thanks Kael.

I've edited my post to make the event easier on the eyes.

All civs could build a golem workshop before (in v 25, for example) after researching golem mastery, a late game magic tech.
Ironicly, perhaps, these really had nothing to do with the Luchirp, who still have their sculptors studio and wood & iron golems.

Most other civs did not use these much, or that was our experience at least, so they are gone now.

Does that mean you are going back to old AC display, instead of having it listed as if it were a player? Or it it just an anachronism?
Neither, it was originally concieved as a FfH symbol that happened to work well as an AC as well--but that had the UI issues you remember.

Well, for me:
Patriarch... Absolutely agree with Vilnons message above, was a very interesting mechanic, which i just loved

Dropout: I can agree with most, save for making crossbowmen tier4 units above longbowmen... that is in my opinion a very difficult thing to compare as was hinted in a few posts before... the main thing, just as Kael one said, Macemen unit is stronger than Swordsman by sheer increased ease of production, not by superior weapon handling skill... and crossbow and longbow both require absolutely different technique to master

Although i loooooved flurries in any civilisation i played, though Fireball-hurling-amurite-flurries can beat your Fireball-hurling-crossbow-dummy anytime for the sheer amount of coolness they possess to my taste

Golems... I rarely played Luchuirp, although i could value the difference that the workshops provided for specializing instead of training a full scale living army...

Champion... I also dont like that name, dunno, but it seems to UU-ish for me

Racial slaying promotions: Finally, good riddance... they were just annoying me, never used them actaully, safe for the undead slayer occasionally when facing huge undead armies, but that doesnt count to the ones that you left out. Anyway if they would be gainable over some event, that would be more interesting to get done in my opinion.

BTW: With all these renamings, howabout a rename of Balseraph "Cow catapult" to "Cattlepult"? Just for the sheer irony of it...

i have a suggestion can you make so that if somebody has a holy city that he move its location? maybe just once per player so that its not op.

How about being able to capture the holy relic (Code of Junil, Tablets of Bambur, etc.) from a holy city and take it to another city in effect moving that holy city?
