Manifest Destiny: Scouting is essential to CiV. With some luck i will clear standard sized Pangaea map in first 100 turns, which usually ends up in warmongering.

Tile buying is situational in my opinion. But always brings warm feelings: ah, yes, only 30 gold, nice!

Siberian Riches: I never really had problems with strategics. I can either have them or buy them, or find them and settle on top. That is why i think there are more appealing unique traits out there.

Furor Teutonicus: saves only a small amount of money and not many barbs are converted through out the course of the game.

Great Andean Road: saves a large amount of money and the hill bonus is huge when attacking.

I am a big fan of early great people, especially on higher levels.

Diplomatic Marriage - A very fun ability to use, always gives you a good game

Furor Teutonicus - I feel the bonus is too much of a dice game. If you arent guranteed the bonus is it even a bonus?

Viking Fury was one of my favorite UA even before the patch, 5-move siege weapons? yes plz.

Nobel Prize... I feel like it's terribly broken because it screws up how great merchants are usually used.

Mongol Terror really helps the Keshiks, not so much is it used for the city state bonus. For pretty much any civ but Mongols it would be useless, but since it is with the Mongols, and the Keshiks, it lets you dominate the whole world with Parthian tactics. Only limiting factor is happiness, and to be honest, I bet even with the combat penalty and rebellions the keshiks could still take over the world if you truly had no regard for happiness.

Seven Cities of Gold - I truly like their intention with this UA, having to explore, and get a benefit from natural wonders, but the problem is that you are rarely near them and almost never the first one to find them. I think it should be modified. Maybe have a starting bias near them, and lower the bonus for being first to find one.

Nobel Prize 21 (+1) A top 10 UA because it's two-in-one. +10% great person generation PER friendship! On a standard map you can usually get 3 or 4 if you choose your side wisely. On a huge map it can get crazy, I've had +150% with the national wonder and garden. Then what to do with those great people? Unique improvement, ability or instantly teleport them across the world to a CS for 90 influence- an instant ally for 30 turns. Add in the Carolean's ability to stay alive in protracted wars that gives you great generals to gift, and this UA is stellar.

Patriarchate of Constantinople: There are lots of ways to found a religion, and this UA gives you the chance to have the most powerful religion in the game. It might not be the "most powerful" UA at high levels, but honestly, most UAs lose some shine against the AI at high levels.

Seven Cities of Gold: This UA is so situational. I prefer consistency over a 10% chance to win the game in the first 5 turns.

Every harbor is 3 gold per turn. That's a massive difference with even a few coastal cities

More GP is great, and the GS might be the best of all, but, in the end, it's not a huge difference, and unlike Sweden, Babylon has bonus to using the extra GS in any way. Any UA left is good, but earlier and a couple of extra GS isn't anything to write home about compared to most of the others.

Yeah, sorry for not being clear. I really am downvoting this UA for being somewhat luck-based, just like Seven Cities. Pop a few faith ruins or ally CSs really early and byzantine is awesome. But the UA doesn't always come into play for BYZ. They are 100% dependent on getting a religion yet don't have any help getting one... no +faith building, no +happy building, nothing that can help you get the UA going.

And I don't think its the worst UA, I just wanted to knock down a few I dislike before dogpiling onto the crappy ones.

Viking Fury 13 (+1) As I described on the previous page - if you think the pillaging bonus is the best part of this UA you are wrong. Having a 6 moves for any land unit and being able to ignore ZOC TWICE, added sight and movement in the water where no one else other than England has and being nearly as good as Polynesia in exploring overseas (any unit can land on a land tile get more movement than normal (enough to explore what you need on an island) and return to the seas the same turn. Add to the fact the patch soon coming out will help the other part of the UA (pillaging will soon heal 25 hp per pillage) and you have the ultimate blitzkrieg UA that effectively allows you to stretch any coastline 5-9 tiles inland.Monument Builders 20

Exactly how I feel about Patriarchate of Constantinople -2. Played quite a few games as them on immortal trying to get the win. Played through a few full games which I didn't even found a religion, and wasted the beginning of the game focusing solely on it.

Achaemenid Legacy. The +1 movement during golden ages alone is great..then add the ability to increase each golden age; makes conquest a very easy process.

Bushido 16 (-2). This UA has gotten a huge downgrade. And the UUs don't make up for it. Its still best in the air - but it isn't a top UA anymore.

Why has the UA been downgraded? I haven't played as the Japanese postGK, but before the expansion came out, people seemed excited for bushido, as units surviving more turns would mean more attacks-while-at-less-than-full-strength. Is this not the case?

It seems downgraded since units are more sturdy post GK. Japan doesn't play like before when their wounded Samurai could one-shot things under Bushido. With units that are hardier in GK you can progress in total war games with minimal losses. Risking units that could be saved/healed in order to use Japan's UA is not as enticing and rewarding as it used to be.

River Warlord : Nice UA with 2 particulary different bonuses. 1 for sea and 1 for land. Good synergy with embarked assaults.

Mongol Terror : +1 movement for horse units is not bad but not necessary in most cases. CS attack bonus is pretty useless.

Exactly. And since this is the only thing Japan's UA consists of - the fact that bushido changed relatively has turned Japan into a fairly mediocre civ. The units in general have become less useless other than the Zero (And most people dont even use fighters to begin with so...)

On Paper before GK came out - it seemed like Japan would get an upgrade. Far from it in game. It is quite easily 100% for fact the worst of the War UAs now.
