My original intention was to aim for a science victory. I started on large islands and didn't expect to meet anyone straight away. However, almost immediately Ethiopia showed up on my doorstep and I rushed out a catapult to dispose of him. I thought that if I eliminated him quickly then there wouldn't be a problem because neither of us had already met another civ. I'd also be able to take advantage of his jungle-start and he wouldn't be barricading me into a small corner of the island any longer.
I crushed him. But not before Egypt showed up on the scene. By this time I already had an army mobilised so, I thought: what's the harm in eliminating Egypt too? He already thought I was a warmonger anyway and I've got all these archers just standing about doing nothing. I rolled over him pretty easily and now I'm sitting pretty in my three capital empire.
However, and here's the problem - I met both Mongolia and the Inca shortly after I launched my attack on Egypt and both have been down as someone who breaks promises, (I had been asked what my troops were doing on the border... you know how it goes). Pachacuti also thinks I'm a warmonger... Genghis isn't really bothered about that detail but he still doesn't like the fact that I broke my promise.
So, how long does the warmonger penalty last? Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? Same goes for the "broke a promise" penalty. For future reference: is there a set amount of turns you have to wait after making the promise before you can attack?
It's not even 1AD yet.
