This is why I can never build military...

I find that the game is much easier with a decent military, so it's worth putting off those buildings. I usually forget to do this, and then I get wiped out early. But if I play right, I try to queue my production to include a new unit for every 1-2 buildings. Then I have a nice army just in case. Last game I was sandwiched between Alex and Zulu. I had two early war declarations and had just enough bowmen to survive. Now I have a healthy garrison and can go on the offensive against one of them.

Don't forget you can buy buildings too. Sometimes I'll sit there with a few thousand gold in the bank and then realize I could have been using it to invest in my cities.

Buildings ,which are in cities, don't move; units DO . Units are a projection of force, and can go do things for you; escorting workers, settlers, fending off foes, taking cities, and getting space for you to expand your Realm; to give you the building SLOTS to slip in the occasional building binge, between units . No workshops???? IDIOT !!!!, these give you the extra hammers to build-whore .
