Most useless wonder in Civ IV?

Jesus, you almost make Vietcong look like a god damned genius.

Anyway, I just remembered the Internet, it was so non-notable that I forgot about it.

Internet. I've been meaning to build it to see the wonder movie, but I can never justify it.

It does give 2 free scientist in that city.

So the most useless wonder is the Pyramids because it's overpowered? That'd be like saying "the Apollo Project is pointless because it lets you beat the game, and nothing should be able to do that!"

The Great Library is awesome, whoever said it is bad doesn't understand it. The two free science specialists can be incredibly powerful, especially in a city with a great person acadamy built in it. And the extra scientists combined with the GP points that the library itself gives you makes the city a great scientist factory.

The Pyramids is the most useful wonder in the game, but it isn't overpowered. Because of the high maintenence costs of advanced civics, even if you have the pyramids it's tough to run a universal sufferage. When I get the Pyramids I always end play the early game in a Representative govt., and it's not like there weren't plenty of representative governments in the ancient world.

As for the most useless, obviously the internet is bad. I never build Scotland Yard because I don't like the spy system in this game. And I haven't found Chicken Itza to be that useful.

I thought internet was useless, until my last game. Most civs finished all techs and I was behind (no space victory). I built internet and gained about 6-7 techs and advanced from 5th to 2nd position instantly. While I was building it, I knew I was behind and set my research to 10%. Got a lot of gold and upgraded all my old units and got all those techs for free.

The internet hands down is the worst. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't cost so much or you could hurry it with an engineer, but as it stands, by the time the 20 turns is done to build it, you've usually invented all the techs it might give you. I went straight for it one game as the AI tends to march up the rocketry side of the tree and by the time I had it built I had already invented everything. Its only use is points. I would also suggest the Kremlin is pretty poor as in most games that I have played it has been obsolete almost immediately after it was built. Hopefully that'll change once I mod the late game techs to cost more and, thus, to slow down the avalanche of invention.

Ok Ok people i missread the thread. I thought he ment useless to you, meaning the wonder you do not like, the one you will have nothing to do with.

There, ok, no more makeing me look stupid :)

In principle, I can see how the internet might work. You're running slightly behind, the space race is on, but you beeline to the internet, build it, and find yourself tied with the leader. Suddenly, you research the last two techs before everyone else, and finish the space race in the nick of time.

Unfortunately, in the few times I've played, it hasn't worked out that way. Either you're so far behind that even the internet can't help you, or you're close enough that it makes more sense to just start building spaceship parts. It's a huge investment of hammers to pump out the internet, and it usually only seems to grab me communism and fascism.

Yep, exactly my experience. The internet is useful only under very special circumstances, and even then it's usually not the best alternative.

What is the difference between them, exactly?

Projects: Cannot be destroyed, cannot be "rushed" with gold or pop, cannot be built by a great engineer.

The Internet should definitely be modded - vastly increasing trade links, granting almost total information about other civs or something along those lines.

and can be built by all civs ;)

all World Projects can be built by all civs, they're like National Wonders

hmm except for the manhattan project I think, not sure as I have yet to see it built
