In Titan's Shadow

Well edit this post with more information on my culture, the Alberneans, later. For now, I'm claiming the Mediterranean spot with the river and mountains to the east of kalthzar.

Those are not Mediterranean, those are Alpine climates at the height of very tall mountains. The blues are different.

@Immac and Defacto: Your claims are noted.

Abarneno (or Abarneko, both names are used)

Spoiler historical reasonings :

Original population – light and dark is good and evil religion, priests born at dark times, superstition about pregnancies with more than one child. Farmers, merchants and lower priests, sometimes may be conscripted as peasant forces. Calls the river Meli. Speak a flowing very poetic form of the Abarneni language. Sentence structure can change from place to place (or song to song). Patrilineal decent, importance of mothers. Most of the population – closely related to the river people.
Second incursion – highly stratified population separated closely into castes that are defined by their economic roles. Faith in many imperfect gods who have comes onto the city just like they did. Usually pastoralists and herders outside the city, the high merchants inside the city. Calls the river Shanenuu. Speak a rounder and harder form of Abarneni, with a constant structure form of Subject-Object-Verb and a generous use of prefixes. Ambilineal decent for males. Closely related to the south-eastern desert folk, or at least the second incursion that also arrived to those lands.
Third incursion – faith in an impersonal force of nature which decides the course of destiny. Philosophical and highly literate. They form the educated elite, and the royal family and the elite forces of the military. Few are merchants and priests. They call the river Ranari. Speak a hard none flowing language that sometimes sound as if it always being read syllable by syllable. Sentence structure if Subject-Verb-Object and the use of any affixes is shunned upon, giving each part of a sentence its own personal word. Their Abarneni language is filled with redundancies and it is sometimes hard to hold a conversation between those who use different forms (usually out of philosophical reasons). Mostly patrilineal decent, but education can raise one in ranks. Uniquely Abarneno, some sort of a third invasion from beyond the mountains that was able to finally unite the fighting clans and groups of people under their own leadership thanks to a powerful elite military (the Eri) and the invention that changed everything, writing (which begun before the three groups became the one Abarneno, and that is why the system is so complex and varied).

Society: At the center of everything lies the essence of Segomi-eri, the breath that controls all, nature, gods and men. Through the Segomi-eri flow the rules and regulations by which the world must function, including human society. Currently the ideal of caste inequality is the ideals that controls the society (but this was once different, and may change again).
The castes:
Somrno – the royal family and all those connected to it. They live exceptionally private lives in the palace complex in the center of the city.
Abarneko – the educated elite that manage the city under the orders of the Somr. Many work in the translation caves busy with matters of philosophy and language. Judges, policeman, healers and many more jobs. The Abarneko are separated into economic clans but one can easily change his clan and job.
Gidromarkeri – the three elite military orders.
Mikono (Mik-hono) – the slaves of the Somrno, or at least the servants who maintain the palace complex and connect between the Somrno and the rest of society.
Sarano – the priests of the six Minonaino and of Abar. Sanar the father, Ranar the daughter, Malko the mask, Korpot the bloody, Melatha the secret, Tetsurot the darkness and Abar the human light.
Tuumno – the normal warrior caste.
Ashi Ushri – the priests of light and darkness. All men and women born in the Ushri inne become priests unless they can and wish to choose something better.
Tuusuei – the merchants. Also musicians join this rank, the good ones anyway.
Lotno – the farmers (of all kinds, and all other lowly people)
Kald – the slaves.

Spoiler old words :

At the top are the Somrno, they are the rulers of the city, the royal caste, led by a single Somr who acts as the despot of the city. The Somrno are disconnected from the rest of society and tend to remain within their palace complex, many not ever seen by anyone outside. They sent the next caste orders by written language on stone tablets. The only people in full contact with them are the Mikhono, the royal slaves (although it must be said they are far from actual slaves and in fact own slaves themselves, also it must be noted they are not the next caste, they are the fourth or fifth caste, depending on definition).
Under the Somrno are the Abarneko. The Abarneko are the governmental caste. They take written orders from the Somr and translate them and decode them into everyday rules and regulations. The Abarneko are highly educated and have a high level of literacy, they are the decoders and translators, which is a much needed group with the Abarneni writing system. The Somrno are do detached in fact from everyday lives that many outsiders believe the Abarneko are the rulers of the city, and from them comes the name of the nation. They are the only caste who is allowed to be literate with reading and writing.
The third caste are the Gidromakeirey, the three important military orders of society, The Rey are the elites of the city who deal with military actions, they are generals and elite troops of the regular army. Some of them in fact also belong to the Abarneko caste as they know how to read, but that will depend on definition of Abarneko. The Makei are the merchant warriors, the form the major part of the naval forces on the river, but normally tend to fight under the Rey on land. They are in fact rich merchants who also control troops. They have their own unique writing system that the Abarneko do not consider a part of the true Abarneki system and so they are allowed to maintain it. The Gidro are the strange self-proclaimed royal guards. As a lowly caste they are in fact not allowed to come near the Somrno but they have settled outside the palace complex and maintain defending of it zealously. The Abarneko do not mind this as long as they follow the rules and do not come near the Somrno and do not enter the complex.
Under the Gidromakeirey lie the rest of society. There are several most castes but they tend to be of less importance: The priests who tend to the Minonahi (the gods) temples, the regular troops, the regular merchants, the artisans of the city (in several equal guilds), the farmers (who actually make the most of the army outside of growing time as peasant forces) and last are the true slaves. These last castes are less known in fact to the point where outsiders only know of the three highest castes, but one could easily tell the difference between a priest and a farmer.
The priest caste is an interesting case as its formation is in fact by rules known outside of Abarneno, every man and woman born in the dark days of the year are priests unless they can belong to another caste according to the law.

A person’s location in the caste system is decided by the lineage laws bellow.

Lineage: To most of society under the Gidromakeirey caste the lineage is formed either by paternal lines or by being born in a dark day to become a priest. In the three high castes women also follow paternal lines to their fathers or husbands, but males can choose. At the age of sixteen a male chooses to belong to his father’s caste or his grandfather’s caste (yes marriage between castes is not frowned upon). Normally a male will choose the higher caste (which can include the Somrno, they do have to get wives and husbands somehow). This is done by choosing a family sigil. If the castes of both his family sigils are the same, he will usually choose his father's sigil.

Food: Wheat and barely make the key domesticated plants and most farmers grow those. Poultry and small pigs make the main domesticated animals. Larger animals have been domesticated to some extent but mostly only at the edges of society. Fishing tends to be important in hard times.

Religion: The first and most obvious faith among the Abarneno is the faith in the Segomi-eri. It is a breath across the world that grants existence to everything. It flows like a river across time and space, sometimes in a single stream and sometimes in many different streams, one can choose to sail his life through any of them. The Segomi-eri isn’t a constant but an ever changing flow of energy. It binds everything together. It falls upon the earth from the Segomi – the great green-blue aura that rules the sky. In the days of darkness the Segomi-eri does not flow from the skies, but upon the earth several Minonahi have taken the job of collecting Segomi-eri during the day to continue its flow at night. The most important of these is Ranari – the flowing river at the center of all life. She brings life even in days of darkness, when she gives forward force it is named Segomi-rei. Other than Ranari there are other Minohani. They are believed to have come a long time after society have already begun. They changed the Segomi-eri from what it once was and completely altered its flow. Now they are in a way the gods of the world, they rule supreme above humanity, but always beneath the Segomi-eri. The most important Minohani is Sanari, the father of Ranari, the great mountain range of the east. He is considered the ruler of everything and the Somrno rule in his steed. He personally chose the royal family so long ago. The religion includes prayers to the Segomi-eri (usually for luck and more choices) as well as honoring the Minohani in building temples. The most important temple is the palace complex, a temple to Sanari, father of all. The second most important must be the hole in the ground, the grand tunnel complex where translation of the Aberneno language is taken place (explained soon). Religious freedom is key, even to darker, less sympathetic religion (most well known the cult of Tetsurot, the Minohani of darkness, the one who drinks Segomi-eri, the one who raped Segomi-rei) as all the Minohani are considered above humanity and so must be worshiped to a certain degree.

Language: The Abarneno language is a fluid quick language with plenty of special cases for words. It is not particularly unique in the neighborhood but it does own its companion writing system the appearance of many new required words. The Abarneki, the written system, is a super complex system of writing. The complexity arises from the existence of several dozens of writing systems, all of which are used. Some of the systems have actually risen in order to “unite” the system by overzealous Somr, only adding a new systems to follow. The Abarneko caste, the decoders are in fact a massive army of translators that work day and night to translate everything that reaches them into all of the different systems in order for it to be easily read. Most of the translations is in fact from one Abarneki system to another, and not to outsider languages. Under the sacred mound the city sits upon there is a huge and vast cave system in which the Abarneko translate and decode. The walls of the cave systems are all carved into amazing stone dictionaries from one system to another. The most well-known Abarneki system is the Gidromi system, used to communicate with the military orders. It is also the simplest and most lacking of the systems. The Royal system, the Somerko is in fact five systems at least, and different Somrno choose their own favorite to study (making it harder on the Abarneko in the end). It is quite crazy. The writing itself is made of tens of thousands small drawings that give meaning to different words, the problem arises from the number of markings possible for each word. It is important to note that some systems have progressed to give a sound meaning to marks (and thereby have far fewer marks) rather than a word meaning, which have come close to simplifying the system, but not quite yet, and those are still barely followed, seen as overly simplified by most Somrno.

Spoiler words in Abarneni :

Words in Mela Abarneni (the diplomatic language)
-no – indicated plural (in some words -ko is used)
-ni – indicated possession (in some words –ki is used)

Somr (Som-Er) – of royal decent, also a king
Abarne – of educated decent, also a translator or educated
Gidro – faithful freely given service, usually out of love, also the self-proclaimed royal guard
Mark – those who protect their own commerce, also the name of the amount of wheat a man needs between two darktimes (can become the name of money)
Eri – of military decent, also the elite part of the military, also life energy or milk when spoken in a different way.
Mela – an understanding, a truth, also mother
Ashi – light
Ushri – dark
Miko – the slave that is above the free
Tuum – warrior
Minonai – one of the gods who came in the Ushri inne
Ranari – the river that flows, but it is also called Meli and Shaneuu, also a form of Segomi-eri, also the Minonai of the river and of the Segomi-eri at darktime.
Segomi – the great blue-green object in the skies which spills the Segomi-eri upon the world in lightime.

Inne – time
Ashi inne - means lightime, the days and nights where the light shines every day. Segomi-eri flows strongest in the lightime. Nothing unique is really considered to happen in it.
Ushri inne - means darktime, the time when the Segomi-eri well darkens and Segomi-eri does not flow normally, only from those Minonai that have taken upon themselves to continue its flow. Men and women born at this time are born priests of Ashiushri caste (the only way to join this caste) and only they can later be promoted by Sarano priest to join that caste.

Origins: It truly depends on who you might ask. Most of the simple folk would say their origin is in the mound of Abarneno, their families have always farmed the river valley since even before the Minohani arrived. The oldest ranks of society, the warriors, the priests, they all are dated to before the arrival of the Minohani. Anyone who is a part of those would consider his family ancient and original to the area. The newer and higher castes are considered both original and new comers. The most obvious new comers are the Gidro, they were invited by an old Somr called Gider to help in the defense of the city and in return were given vast lands and became a part of the city. They swore allegiance to the Somr and all who followed him several hundred years ago according to legend. The Somrno, masters of the city, are considered newer than the rest as well, they were brought with the Minohani (though some Somrno are considered ancient and original, again it depends and who is the person in question). Because the Abarneno are very open to new people joining the city and society, there is a system kept to check the originality of a person though few really care how original you are – only of your rank in society.
In short, the Abarneno are made from both existing populations of the river basin as well as new comers that came later and brought inequality as a basis for their rule.

Economic base: The majority of the population are simple farmers. Inside the city the majority are simple craftsman and artisans. Two sorts of merchant classes exist, as noted before, one militaristic and one just doing its usual business. Taxes are paid to the Somrno, which is used to pay for the armies of Abarneko that work in the translation caves, as judges and pretty much any other high ranking job.

Naming: Male names will never start with V, Z, N and R while female names will always begin with those four and be based on their fathers name with his first letter changed to one of the four. The full name of a person his is first name and his family’s sigil. Every family of worth have a unique sigil, a small drawing that speaks to its history. The sigil is how one knows how old the family name is. The sigil is not an actual word, but slowly as outsiders require it some sigils have been given a sound. Newer sigil can be created after an official request to the Abarneki. Carrying a false sigil is punishable by death for the sigil carries your caste as well. Many farmers have very simple sigils, or even share a single sigil among many families but among the elite sigils are extremely important and carry the weight of ancient history. The sigil of the Somrno is considered holy and drawing it without proper ritual is again, punishable by death. Obviously only Abarneki know the proper ritual.

Santichai

Starting Location: Western River (the Santi)

Society: Santichai cities are ruled by a king, selected from among a number of noble families known as Equestrians. Equestrians are families (nominally) wealthy enough to support a horse: many of them are landowners or merchants. A family rarely produces consecutive kings: they’re expected to provide considerable public works that typically leaves them fairly impoverished. Fair exchange and reciprocal gift giving have an important role in Santichai society, maintaining trust between communities and allowing the free movement of trade

Lineage: Patrilineal. Wealthy Santichai practice polygamy, and women move into their husband’s household.

Food: Barley, dairy products, and wine are the key components of the Santichai diet.

Religion(s): Santichai religion is polytheistic, with a growing and changing pantheon of gods depending on the generation, locale, and concerns. Santichai religion is divided into three religious traditions, each operating under the same cosmology. White Priests are the traditional priests of Danginsing, and have insular communities. Red Priests are an adaptation of the traditional Santichai priesthood, and are heavily involved in government and learning, being the largest (and sole organized) literate group in society. Black Priests are solitary philosopher-hermits, and typically emerge from the White Priesthood but reject its insular nature, passing on wisdom to the community as a whole.

Santichai gods are typically anthromorphic: Darawan, the sun god, is usually depicted with traits of a hooded serpent, while Chamlong is the god of death and depicted as a lion. The most hostile god, to humans at least, is Kamat, the storm god.

Human sacrifice is a key component of the Santichai faith, being the highest offering available to rulers and priests. Slaves, captured in battle, are typically offered to commemorate victories, on major festivals, or to consecrate a new ship or construction. Blood makes the sun rise.

Origins: The Santichai were sheepherders and pastoralists along the western coast until the coming of Danginsing who conquered their fledgling cities along the river and imposed themselves as a new ruling caste, absorbing the power elite of Santichai society into their own

Economic Base: The chief crop of the Santichai is barley, which, while not as productive as wheat, is preferred due to the ease with which it can be grown. Olives and grapes are a major crash crop, being grown both for food and to be turned into olive oil and wine, which are the main exports. Animal husbandry is another key industry: the quintessential Sehiran is a sheepherder rather than a farmer, and wealth is measured in sheep. While fishing is not a Sehiran focus, a strong fishing industry exists due to the transplanted

Polity Names: Polity names typically use the names of the central city

Alberneans
Starting Location: the Mediterranean spot with the river and mountains to the east of kalthzar (posting from my phone, so I can't mark the map)
Society: Albernea is a socialist, theocratic police city-state ruled by a high priest, called a Slas (more on that later). Much like with many other societies of the time, careers and status are passed down from father to son, though everything is shared by society (hence socialism). Dissent is relatively unknown, though that could partly be because people know their fates will be unknown if they dissent. People tend to mind their own business and stick to their crafts. Houses are generally made of stone, with thatched roofs.
Lineage: Lineage is traced patrilineally. Again, careers are passed down from father to son.
Food: The Alberneans are truly blessed when it comes to food. The farmers grow crops such as pisausi (a type of potato), dirissi (an edible herb), limisa (a sweet, pink citrus fruit, shaped like a lemon) and even dosjesi (a variety of coffee bean). Domesticated animals are donkeys, mountain goats and quails, though donkeys are seldom used for food.
Religion(s): The Alberneans are a tall people who believe they are descended from the Titans who lived in their mountains long ago. They revere their ancestors, both recent and ancient. The Slas is believed to receive wisdom from the ancestors every morning. The clergy acts as the city-state police. The righteous dead are burned on funeral pyres, though it is unknown what happens to the dissenting dead.
Language(s): The Albernean language is very melodic sounding, in that words flow together almost seamlessly. The writing system uses standardized symbols to represent its alphabet.
Origins: The Alberneans believe that they are descended from Titans who once lived in the very same mountains they live in now. This obviously makes them better than everybody else. The Slas's lineage is traced back to Albern himself, the king of the Titans.
Economic Base: socialism. People produce food and crafts, pay high taxes on what they produce to the clergy-run government, and it is distributed among the populace.
Names: Albernea is a city-state, so there are currently no other cities it controls, but it is large enough to be split up into three districts, which are run by certain clergymen, called Blas. These districts are Faujis, Punos and Bahoannos, each named after the ancestor of the family line governing it (see below).
Person Names: The current Slas is named Rausi Albernsasi. Naming conventions are in the order of personal name, followed by surname, with the surname being the name of a great ancestor followed by the suffix -sasi. The current Blas of Faujis is Alsus Faujissasi, the Blas of Punos is Dorcus Punossasi and the Blas of Bahoannos is Cris Bahoannossasi.
Place Names: The main temple where people go to worship, which also houses the Slas, is called the Tipisi. It occupies much of the town square. The river that flows down from the mountains is called the Quilsi.

1. Your people are in Alpine climate. You do not have potatoes, citrus, herbs, or even plant life beyond small grasses or moss.

2. I can't accept any of this.

The Senarai

Starting Location: West of Kal'thzar's claim, and stretching down the river towards Madvikings claim

Spoiler :

Society: Senarai society is patriarchal and agrarian. Each family is considered associated with a clan led by a council of elders (Tanendelan) formally headed by a chief (Aren) from the family that is considered the main patrilineal line of descent. Groups of clans are considered related to eachother and are grouped together in kindreds (Senesh) which are led by "princes" (Sal) who incorporate both monarchical and priestly roles. These princes usually rule over a city and its immediate region. The Entire Senarai people are nominally united by a "King" (Rusal) who is considered an avatar of a god, and the divine bridge between the people and the heavens. As such the Kings functions are primarily ceremonial and religious with real political power being held by the princes. However the King does serve as a unifying agent, bringing the princes together in a confederacy.

Society is likewise divided into four general classes, the Clerical Class (constituting the clergy, the chiefs-princes-king an their families) the Warrior class (constituting warriors) the Artisan class (those who fashion things) and Farmers (the peasantry). Social mobility is possible, although the highest echelons of Senarai society are a fairly closed aristocracy.

Lineage: Patrilineal

Food: grains, fish from the river and fruits are common. Meat from sheep and goats and waterfowl hunted by the river are available although tend to be restricted to the wealthier parts of society and are irregular fare for the commons. Cows are considered valuable beasts of burden and so while their milk is drunk, beef is very rare (although not forbidden).

Religion: Senarai religion (Ayeshani = roughly translates to "devotion to the gods") upholds belief in a pantheon of gods (who's names are sacred and thus kept secret amongst the priests) beginning with the supreme being, The Most August Lord who's power sustains existence itself, from whom proceeded in the beginning four emanations, Truth, Order, Spirit and Substance (each deified as a god incarnating respectively the Intellect, Cosmic Laws, The spiritual and the physical, with these together encompassing existence). From them emerged the three gods known as the Father of Light, the Father of Darkness and the Lord of Ways (the latter of whom the King is considered and Avatar of) representing creative and destructive forces, and the link between the divine and earthly orders (Ergo, the Lord of Ways is a gatekeeper). The Father of Light then created six gods (deifying princely power, law, purity, wholeness, understanding, serenity and inspiration) while the Father of Darkness (not considered intrinsically evil, but greatly feared) created six gods itself (deifying change, chaos, corruption, pestilence, ignorance, war and pleasure). The Lord of Ways then created the Master of Spirits, a psychopomp who guides the souls of the dead to either reincarnation (if one is average in terms of spiritual development) to apotheosis and union with the Most August Lord (if one is enlightened) or to incarnation as a malevolent demon if one is out of harmony with the universal order. After the emergence of these gods, from the universe itself then emerged a host of other gods and spirits, including amongst numerous others the Lady of the Waters (the deified Melya river and goddess of renewal, synonymous perhaps with the mother goddess of the Meli River peoples) the Master of Beasts, The Great Mother (another mother goddess figure), the Sun God and the Desert God. With these gods "filling" aspects of human existence and nature, or alternatively being spirits of places, (each city is considered to have a tutelary god for example). Ancestor spirits also are recognised in the Senarai religion.

Worship of the gods is organised in temples, which are at the centres of Senarai communities, although every household contains a shrine to the gods for home worship. This worship consists of prayers and sacrifices (animal, blood offerings and fruits and vegetables are all offered) which are in the case of benevolent gods attempts to obtain blessings and forge a link with the deity to assist in the process of enlightenment, and in the case of malevolent gods attempts at propitiation (although exorcisms are also practiced), with these sacrifices being accompanied by music and singing. Temples are political (noting the confluence between priestly and royal authority) and economic centres in addition to being religious centres, with large temples (particularly the temple-palace complex of the King, and the temples at the centre of the main cities) usually owning large estates of lands which support their activities, and running workshops dedicated to artistic production for the purposes of religion. Smaller temples at the local and neighbourhood level also exist.

The Priestly Hierarchy consists of, at the top, the King who is considered an avatar of the Lord of Ways, who is assisted by a council of clerics in the exercise of royal rites. In local centres princes are considered the chief priests of their city and responsible for maintaining the relationship between man and the gods. Further down each temple is headed by a high priest dedicated to that temples deity, being assisted by a hierarchy of priests, and acolytes with temples being free to run their own affairs (the King and the Princes enact state rites, but the religion is not a centralised one). Oracles are a class of priest considered to be mediums able to be possessed by spirits and gods, being as such able to speak the divine will to the people (with the King, as avatar of the Lord of Ways, being the medium in chief). One becomes a priest by either being a member of an established priestly line (princely families or the royal family for example) or being born on a dark day. There are also of course popular religious figures such as medicine-men/magicians, fortune tellers and ascetic holy men who provide spiritual services on the street so to speak.

Language:

The Senarai Language, related too but clearly distinct from the Meli River language (its in the same language family). It is written in an alphabet in which the "letters" are organised to represent syllables (with the result being that there are several thousand possible characters). It is an agglutinative language.

Origins:

The Senarai believe that humanity (who they believe emerge in a group known as the primeval clan) was created by the Most August God and instructed by the Lord of Ways to dwell in creation, but that malevolent forces hostile to human flourishing led man to sin and to division and mortality. As to themselves, the Senarai believe themselves to have migrated to their current abode from across the desert, and be descendants of the firstborn man (the chief of the primeval clan), considering the Kalei and the Deyei (Kalai and Deyai in the Senarai language) to be descendants of the secondborn man.

Economic Base:

Agrarian economy in the river valley and peripheral livestock keeping. The cities and the temples in particular are centres of craftsmanship.

Country Names:

Senartis (the whole realm of the Senarai), city names would be used to refer to principalities and cities both.

Place Names:

Senarasan (City of the Senarai, seat of the King)
Pradawan (city name)
Kelaran (city name)
Ransharas (city name)

Melya (the great river)
Yi Shaldil (the tributary leading to Kalthzar)
(The) Gashwetalon (The Desert)

Personal Names

(Personal name (+class indicator)/Clan name): class indicators: (Tal = Priest/noble, Kan = warrior, Sul = artisan, Dur = farmer).

male names. Sharash Tal'dawan, Beyet Kan'Sherash, Tol Dur'shas, Ashardi Sul'Vanas.
Female names. Shara Tal'dawani, Beyara Kan'Sherashi, Tola Dur'shasti, Asharta Sul'Vanasi.

The King is never referred too by personal name but by title, or by the term, Rulshan Ra'Senarai, which translates roughly to the "Divine avatar who is lord of the Senarai". After a Kings death however he is given a posthumous name by which he is referred too. Examples would Shantaresh (godly architect) or Etensenartal (blessed lord of the senarai), with repeats being numbered (Shantaresh II, and so forth).

Princes are referred to not by the name of their princely clan, but by kindred. Such as for example "Sal'teshwan Argelen" = Prince Teshwan of the Argelen kindred. If he was not a prince he would be referred too perhaps as Teshwan Tal'Gawash = Teshwan, noble of the Gawash clan. Posthumously a prince for historical purposes would be referred too by his personal name (so Teshwan II for the second prince bearing that name of a particular kindred)

The Kakoi(Kak-oɪ̯)

Starting Location:
East of GK, west of Madviking.

Society:
Society is based around bands/Kak. a band is a group of families that ride on horses, bringing with them houses, cattle, sheep, etc. the leader of these bands are based on the patriarch of the strongest family in the band. this man leads the band on raids, movement, etc. Each band also has a shaman/Dhaevk. Taranan

Starting Location: Western Tributary River

Society: The Taranii society is quite peculiar. It is divided in three classes: The Sculptors, also called the Artisans, the Favored, the aristocratic and military class, and the so called Commons, simple peasants. Together they created the Council, a rudimentary democratic institution whose goal is to ensure that the interests of all are met. At least in theory.

Complete information about the government and Social Classes:
Spoiler :
The Council is composed of two parts: the Greater and the Lesser Council. The members of the Greater Council, also called the Council of Three, are: the Artisan Master, the Strongest, and the Noblest. The Lesser Council consists of fifty Artisans, fifty Favored and fifty Commons. The problems are discussed in the Lesser Council, but is the Council of Three that gives the final decision. Another person, although not a member of any Council, has great power in the Taranii society. He is the so-called Honored, a Favored who was educated by the Artisans to achieve a high level of skill. He is the symbol of the union between the two classes. The Honored is chosen when still a child, and keeps the title until death. When he gets old or infirm, a new kid is selected to be trained for the position, taking over after the death of his predecessor.

The Artisans: They are men and women trained since childhood to become extraordinary artisans. Unlike simple craftspeople, the works produced by these individuals have sacred purposes. It all started with ceramic pots. Important in storing grain, these pots gave a new level of importance to artisans, whose role became essential. Then, they started to carve their own faces in ceramics, so they would not be forgotten after death. This habit soon spread throughout the region, and the Artisans began to be treated with a respect that was once reserved for aristocrats and military. Now they started to live in distant places, where they can find the peace necessary to carve in ceramics (or stone, depending on how much the person could afford) the faces, that could then be placed in sacred places. They are represented by the Master Artisan, the most skilled of them all.

The Favored: These people have great power among the Taranii, its members own the majority of land and are also those who fight to protect it. According to the law, only the eldest son inherits the father's land, leaving the other children no other option but a military career. Due to their status, they are allowed to take up arms to fight, a right which the Commons do not have. The Strongest come from this class, he is the leader of the military. The Noblest is also a Favored. Usually he is chosen among the wealthiest landowners.

The Commons: The class of farmers and ordinary workers, that although represented in the Council have fewer rights than the wealthier citizens. However, it is possible for a common to become rich.

Lineage: Paternal and Maternal ancestors. Example: To be a Favored, you must descend from a Favored by paternal and maternal part. If someone is half blood, to that person is given permission to follow a military career, but this same individual should not inherit land.

Food: Mainly grain and barley. Cattle breeding is also an option, as well as fishing.

Religion(s): The most remarkable feature of the local religion is ancestor worship, which is expressed in the sculptures produced by the Artisans. The worst thing that can happen to someone is to be forgotten, so it is common for criminals and dissidents to have their images destroyed, and their names blotted out from their tombstones. It is believed that to stay in the afterlife, you need to be remembered. To destroy any reminder of the existence of someone is the same as killing that person again. Regarding the creation, it is believed that in the past, there was a deity who created all things, including man. But no one knows for sure what the men did in the past, but the deity became filled with anger or sadness (there is no consensus on this) and abandoned the race of men forever, fading out from our memory. Having been forgotten, it is believed that this entity no longer exists. As such, he is referred as the Forgotten God.
