Uncontrollable Finances

Over the last few weeks (maybe since the last patch) I have found it incredibly difficult to stay out of a loss making situation.

I have all the gold generating buildings as I go through the eras - Market, Bank, Mint etc but I always seem to be earning a minus figure, and only by selling luxuries and resources do I manage to stay in the black.

Also, when going to war I now notice that I lose money until I make peace, which never happened before.

Am I missing a fundamental point within the game, or have things changed in recent weeks ?

Game level is generally King, sometimes Prince.

Pretty typical in the early game (sometimes into the mid-game, if you building a military of any real size) to run gpt deficits, and have to use lux and strategics sales (and embassy sales, CS meeting gold, barb camp-busting gold, and any other gold you can scrounge up) to tide you over the negative gpt spells.
